BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Sentenze di Salomone, figlio di David, re d'Israele, I.	1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
2 per conoscere la sapienza e la disciplina,	2 for learning what wisdom and discipline are, for understanding words of deep meaning,
3 per capire le parole della prudenza, per ricevere l'istruzione della dottrina, la giustizia, il giudizio, l'equità,	3 for acquiring a disciplined insight, uprightness, justice and fair dealing;
4 in modo che i piccoli diventino accorti e i giovanetti abbiano conoscenza e riflessione.	4 for teaching sound judgement to the simple, and knowledge and reflection to the young;
5 Il saggio ascoltando diventerà più saggio, e l'intelligente possederà il modo di regolarsi,	5 Let the wise listen and learn yet more, and a person of discernment wil acquire the art of guidance.
6 comprenderà le sentenze e le loro interpretazioni, le parole dei saggi e i loro enimrni.	6 for perceiving the meaning of proverbs and obscure sayings, the sayings of the sages and their riddles.
7 Il timor del Signore è il principio della sapienza; gli stolti disprezzano la sapienza e la dottrina.	7 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; fools spurn wisdom and discipline.
8 Ascolta, o figlio, le istruzioni di tuo padre, e non dimenticare gl'insegnamenti di tua madre,	8 Listen, my child, to your father's instruction, do not reject your mother's teaching:
9 e avrai sul capo una corona e al collo una collana.	9 they wil be a crown of grace for your head, a circlet for your neck.
10 Figlio mio, se i cattivi ti volessero sedurre, non cedere.	10 My child, if sinners try to seduce you, do not go with them.
11 Se dicono: « Vien con noi, insidiamo alla vita, tendiamo lacci all'innocente, che a nulla vale,	11 If they say, 'Come with us: let us lie in ambush to shed blood; if we plan an ambush for the innocentwithout provocation,
12 ingoiamolo vivo, come fa l'Abisso, tutto intero, come sceso nella fossa:	12 we can swal ow them alive, like Sheol, and whole, like those who sink into oblivion.
13 troveremo ogni sorta di ricchezze, empiremo di spoglie le nostre case;	13 We shal find treasures of every sort, we shall fil our houses with plunder;
14 unisci la tua sorte alla nostra, non ci sia fra noi tutti che Lina sola borsa»,	14 throw in your lot with us: one purse between us al .'
15 figlio mio, non andar con loro, tieni lontani i tuoi passi dalla loro strada;	15 My child, do not fol ow them in their way, keep your steps out of their path

20 La sapienza grida per le vie. alza la sua voce sulle piazze,	20 Wisdom cal s aloud in the streets, she raises her voice in the public squares;

23 Volgetevi ai miei rimproveri. Ecco comunicherò a voi il mio spirito e vi dichiarerò le mie parole.	23 Pay attention to my warning. To you I wil pour out my heart and tel you what I have to say.
24 Siccome vi ho chiamati, e non siete voluti venire, ho stesa la mia mano, e nessuno ci ha badato,	24 Since I have cal ed and you have refused me, since I have beckoned and no one has taken notice,
25 e avete disprezzati tutti i miei consigli, e non avete voluto sapere delle mie ammonizioni,	25 since you have ignored al my advice and rejected al my warnings,
26 anch'io riderò nella vostra rovina, e vi schernirò quando vi assalirà il terrore,	26 I, for my part, shall laugh at your distress, I shal jeer when terror befal s you,
27 quando vi piomberà addosso la sventura, quando come turbine vi sorprenderà la morte, quando verrà sopra di voi la tribolazione e l'angoscia.	27 when terror befal s you, like a storm, when your distress arrives, like a whirlwind, when ordeal andanguish bear down on you.
28 Allora mi chiameranno, ma io non risponderò; mi cercheranno con premura, ma non mi troveranno.	28 Then they will cal me, but I shal not answer, they wil look eagerly for me and will not find me.
29 Perchè ebbero in odio la disciplina e non vollero saperne del timore del Signore,	29 They have hated knowledge, they have not chosen the fear of Yahweh,
30 non stettero al mio consiglio e malignarono ogni mia correzione,	30 they have taken no notice of my advice, they have spurned al my warnings:
31 perciò mangeranno i frutti della loro condotta, e si sazieranno dei propri consigli.	31 so they wil have to eat the fruits of their own ways of life, and choke themselves with their ownscheming.
32 L'indocilità di questi fanciulli sarà la loro morte, e la prosperità degli stolti li manderà in rovina.	32 For the errors of the simple lead to their death, the complacency of fools works their own ruin;
33 Ma chi mi ascolta vivrà tranquillo nell'abbondanza di ogni bene, senza alcun male.	33 but whoever listens to me may live secure, will have quiet, fearing no mischance.'
