1 Entrato nella città di Gerico, la stava attraversando.	1 And having entered, he walked through Jericho.
2 Or un uomo di nome Zaccheo, che era capo dei pubblicani e ricco,	2 And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus. And he was the leader of the tax collectors, and he was wealthy.
3 cercava di vedere chi fosse Gesù, ma non ci riusciva; c'era infatti molta gente ed egli era troppo piccolo di statura.	3 And he sought to see Jesus, to see who he was. But he was unable to do so, because of the crowd, for he was small in stature.
4 Allora corse avanti e, per poterlo vedere, si arrampicò sopra un sicomoro, perché Gesù doveva passare di là.	4 And running ahead, he climbed up a sycamore tree, so that he might see him. For he was to pass near there.
5 Gesù, quando arrivò in quel punto, alzò gli occhi e gli disse: "Zaccheo, scendi in fretta, perché oggi devo fermarmi a casa tua".	5 And when he had arrived at the place, Jesus looked up and saw him, and he said to him: “Zacchaeus, hurry down. For today, I should lodge in your house.”
6 Scese subito e lo accolse con gioia.	6 And hurrying, he came down, and he received him joyfully.
7 Vedendo ciò, tutti mormoravano: "E' andato ad alloggiare in casa di un peccatore!".	7 And when they all saw this, they murmured, saying that he had turned aside to a sinful man.
8 Ma Zaccheo, alzatosi, disse al Signore: "Signore, io do ai poveri la metà dei miei beni e se ho rubato a qualcuno gli restituisco il quadruplo".	8 But Zacchaeus, standing still, said to the Lord: “Behold, Lord, one half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have cheated anyone in any matter, I will repay him fourfold.”
9 Gesù gli rispose: "Oggi la salvezza è entrata in questa casa, perché anch'egli è figlio di Abramo.	9 Jesus said to him: “Today, salvation has come to this house; because of this, he too is a son of Abraham.
10 Infatti il Figlio dell'uomo è venuto a cercare e a salvare ciò che era perduto".	10 For the Son of man has come to seek and to save what had been lost.”
11 Mentre essi stavano ad ascoltare queste cose, Gesù raccontò quest'altra parabola, perché era vicino a Gerusalemme ed essi credevano che la manifestazione del regno di Dio fosse imminente.	11 As they were listening to these things, continuing on, he spoke a parable, because he was nearing Jerusalem, and because they guessed that the kingdom of God might be manifested without delay.
12 Disse dunque: "Un uomo di nobile famiglia se ne andò in un paese lontano per ricevere il titolo di re, e poi ritornare.	12 Therefore, he said: “A certain man of nobility traveled to a far away region, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
13 Chiamati dieci dei suoi servi, diede loro dieci mine, dicendo: "Fatele fruttificare fino a quando tornerò".	13 And calling his ten servants, he gave them ten pounds, and he said to them: ‘Do business until I return.’
14 Ma i suoi concittadini lo odiavano e gli mandarono dietro alcuni rappresentanti a dire: "Non vogliamo che costui regni su di noi".	14 But his citizens hated him. And so they sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this one to reign over us.’
15 Ma quell'uomo divenne re e ritornò al suo paese e fece chiamare i servi ai quali aveva consegnato il denaro, per vedere quanto ciascuno ne avesse ricavato.	15 And it happened that he returned, having received the kingdom. And he ordered the servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called so that he would know how much each one had earned by doing business.
16 Si fece avanti il primo e disse: "Signore, la tua mina ne ha fruttato dieci".	16 Now the first approached, saying: ‘Lord, your one pound has earned ten pounds.’
17 Gli rispose: "Bene, servo buono; poiché sei stato fedele nel poco, ricevi il governo sopra dieci città".	17 And he said to him: ‘Well done, good servant. Since you have been faithful in a small matter, you will hold authority over ten cities.’
18 Poi venne il secondo e disse: "Signore, la tua mina ne ha fruttato cinque".	18 And the second came, saying: ‘Lord, your one pound has earned five pounds.’
19 Anche a questo disse: "Anche tu avrai l'amministrazione di cinque città".	19 And he said to him, ‘And so, you shall be over five cities.’
20 Infine si fece avanti l'altro servo e disse: "Signore, ecco la tua mina che ho nascosto in un fazzoletto.	20 And another approached, saying: ‘Lord, behold your one pound, which I kept stored in a cloth.
21 Ho avuto paura di te, perché sei un uomo severo: pretendi quello che non hai depositato e raccogli quello che non hai seminato".	21 For I feared you, because you are an austere man. You take up what you did not lay down, and you reap what you did not sow.’
22 Gli rispose: "Dalle tue parole ti giudico, servo malvagio! Sapevi che sono un uomo severo, che pretendo quello che non ho depositato e raccolgo quello che non ho seminato.	22 He said to him: ‘By your own mouth, do I judge you, O wicked servant. You knew that I am an austere man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow.
23 Perché allora non hai depositato il mio denaro alla banca? Al mio ritorno l'avrei ritirato con l'interesse".	23 And so, why did you not give my money to the bank, so that, upon my return, I might have withdrawn it with interest?’
24 Disse poi ai presenti: "Toglietegli la mina e datela a colui che ne ha dieci".	24 And he said to the bystanders, ‘Take the pound away from him, and give it to him who has ten pounds.’
25 Gli risposero: "Signore, ne ha già dieci!".	25 And they said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten pounds.’
26 "Vi dico: chi ha riceverà ancora di più; invece a chi ha poco sarà tolto anche quello che ha.	26 So then, I say to you, that to all who have, it shall be given, and he will have in abundance. And from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.
27 Intanto, conducete qui i miei nemici, quelli che non mi volevano come loro re. Conduceteli qui e uccideteli alla mia presenza".	27 ‘Yet truly, as for those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here, and put them to death before me.’ ”
28 Dopo questi discorsi, Gesù camminava in testa agli altri, salendo a Gerusalemme.	28 And having said these things, he went ahead, ascending to Jerusalem.
29 Quando fu vicino a Bètfage e a Betània, presso il monte detto degli Ulivi, mandò avanti due discepoli dicendo:	29 And it happened that, when he had drawn near to Bethphage and Bethania, to the mount which is called Olivet, he sent two of his disciples,
30 "Andate nel villaggio che sta qui di fronte; entrando, troverete un asinello legato sul quale non è mai salito nessuno; slegatelo e portatelo qui.	30 saying: “Go into the town which is opposite you. Upon entering it, you will find the colt of a donkey, tied, on which no man has ever sat. Untie it, and lead it here.
31 Se qualcuno vi chiederà: "Perché lo slegate?", voi risponderete così: "Il Signore ne ha bisogno".	31 And if anyone will ask you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this to him: ‘Because the Lord has requested its service.’ ”
32 I due discepoli andarono e trovarono le cose come egli aveva detto.	32 And those who were sent went out, and they found the colt standing, just as he told them.
33 Mentre slegavano il puledro, i proprietari domandarono loro: "Perché slegate il puledro?".	33 Then, as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?”
34 Essi risposero: "Il Signore ne ha bisogno".	34 So they said, “Because the Lord has need of it.”
35 Allora lo condussero a Gesù e, dopo aver coperto il puledro con i loro mantelli, vi fecero montare Gesù.	35 And they led it to Jesus. And casting their garments on the colt, they helped Jesus onto it.
36 Via via che Gesù avanzava, la gente stendeva i mantelli sulla strada.	36 Then, as he was traveling, they were laying down their garments along the way.
37 Quando fu vicino alla discesa del monte degli Ulivi, tutta la folla dei discepoli, esultando, cominciò a lodare a gran voce Dio per tutti i miracoli che aveva visto.	37 And when he was now drawing near to the descent of Mount Olivet, the entire crowd of his disciples began to praise God joyfully, with a loud voice, over all the powerful works which they had seen,
38 Gridavano: "Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore: egli è il re! In cielo pace e gloria nel più alto dei cieli".	38 saying: “Blessed is the king who has arrived in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory on high!”
39 Allora alcuni farisei che si trovavano tra la folla gli dissero: "Maestro, fa' tacere i tuoi discepoli!".	39 And certain Pharisees within the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”
40 Ma egli rispose: "Vi dico che se taceranno costoro, si metteranno a gridare le pietre".	40 And he said to them, “I tell you, that if these will keep silent, the stones themselves will cry out.”
41 Quando fu vicino, alla vista della città, pianse su di essa,	41 And when he drew near, seeing the city, he wept over it, saying:
42 dicendo: "Oh, se tu pure conoscessi, in questo giorno, quello che occorre alla tua pace! Ma ora ciò è stato nascosto ai tuoi occhi.	42 “If only you had known, indeed even in this your day, which things are for your peace. But now they are hidden from your eyes.
43 Verranno sopra di te giorni nei quali i tuoi nemici ti circonderanno di trincee. Ti assedieranno e ti stringeranno da ogni parte.	43 For the days will overtake you. And your enemies will encircle you with a valley. And they will surround you and hem you in on every side.
44 Distruggeranno te e i tuoi abitanti, e non lasceranno in te pietra su pietra, perché tu non hai conosciuto il tempo nel quale sei stata visitata".	44 And they will knock you down to the ground, with your sons who are in you. And they will not leave stone upon stone within you, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
45 Entrato poi nel tempio, si mise a cacciare quelli che facevano commercio,	45 And entering into the temple, he began to cast out those who sold in it, and those who bought,
46 dicendo loro: "La mia casa sarà casa di preghiera. Voi, invece, ne avete fatto una caverna di ladri!".	46 saying to them: “It is written: ‘My house is a house of prayer.’ But you have made it into a den of robbers.”
47 E insegnava ogni giorno nel tempio. I capi dei sacerdoti e i dottori della legge cercavano di farlo perire, e così anche i capi del popolo.	47 And he was teaching in the temple daily. And the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, and the leaders of the people were seeking to destroy him.
48 Ma non sapevano come fare, perché tutto il popolo pendeva dalle sue labbra nell'ascoltarlo.	48 But they could not find what to do to him. For all the people were listening to him attentively.
