1 Per questo il Signore ha attuato la sua parola che aveva pronunciato contro di noi e contro i nostri giudici che hanno governato Israele, contro i nostri re e contro i nostri prìncipi, contro gli uomini di Giuda e d'Israele.	1 "And the LORD fulfilled the warning he had uttered against us: against our judges, who governed Israel, against our kings and princes, and against the men of Israel and Judah.
2 Non è mai avvenuto sotto il cielo quanto è stato fatto in Gerusalemme, secondo ciò che è scritto nella legge di Mosè,	2 He brought down upon us evils so great that there has not been done anywhere under heaven what has been done in Jerusalem, as was written in the law of Moses:
3 che noi saremmo arrivati a mangiare l'uno la carne del proprio figlio e l'altro la carne della propria figlia.	3 that one after another of us should eat the flesh of his son or of his daughter.
4 Li ha dati, poi, in potere a tutti i regni che stanno intorno, a scherno e a desolazione tra tutti i popoli fra i quali il Signore li ha dispersi.	4 He has made us subject to all the kingdoms round about us, a reproach and a horror among all the nations round about to which the LORD has scattered us.
5 Divennero schiavi e non padroni, perché peccammo contro il Signore, Dio nostro, per non aver ascoltato la sua voce.	5 We are brought low, not raised up, because we sinned against the LORD, our God, not heeding his voice.
6 Al Signore, Dio nostro, la giustizia; a noi, invece, e ai nostri padri, il rossore dei volti come avviene oggi.	6 "Justice is with the LORD, our God; and we, like our fathers, are flushed with shame even today.
7 I mali che il Signore aveva minacciato contro di noi ci sono venuti tutti addosso.	7 All the evils of which the LORD had warned us have come upon us:
8 Non abbiamo placato la faccia del Signore convertendoci ciascuno dai pensieri del proprio cuore malvagio.	8 and we did not plead before the LORD, or turn, each from the figments of his evil heart.
9 Il Signore ha vigilato sopra questi mali e li ha fatti venire sopra di noi perché il Signore è giusto in tutte le opere che ci ha comandato.	9 And the LORD kept watch over the evils, and brought them home to us; for the LORD is just in all the works he commanded us to do,
10 Noi, però, non abbiamo ascoltato la sua voce camminando nei precetti che il Signore ci aveva posto davanti".	10 but we did not heed his voice, or follow the precepts of the LORD which he set before us.
11 "Ed ora, o Signore, Dio di Israele, che hai fatto uscire il tuo popolo dal paese di Egitto con mano robusta, con segni e prodigi, con grande potenza e con braccio elevato, e ti sei fatto un nome come avviene oggi stesso,	11 "And now, LORD, God of Israel, you who led your people out of the land of Egypt with your mighty hand, with signs and wonders and great might, and with your upraised arm, so that you have made for yourself a name till the present day:
12 abbiamo peccato, siamo stati empi, siamo stati ingiusti, o Signore Dio nostro, riguardo a tutti i tuoi precetti.	12 we have sinned, been impious, and violated, O LORD, our God, all your statutes.
13 Si allontani da noi il tuo sdegno, perché siamo rimasti pochi tra le nazioni dove ci hai dispersi.	13 Let your anger be withdrawn from us, for we are left few in number among the nations to which you scattered us.
14 Ascolta, Signore, la nostra preghiera e la nostra supplica e liberaci per te stesso e dacci grazia dinanzi a coloro che ci hanno deportato,	14 Hear, O LORD, our prayer of supplication, and deliver us for your own sake: grant us favor in the presence of our captors,
15 affinché conosca tutta la terra che tu sei il Signore, Dio nostro, e che il tuo nome è stato invocato sopra Israele e sopra la sua progenie.	15 that the whole earth may know that you are the LORD, our God, and that Israel and his descendants bear your name.
16 Signore, riguarda dalla tua santa casa e pensa a noi; piega, o Signore, i tuoi orecchi e ascolta.	16 O LORD, look down from your holy dwelling and take thought of us; turn, O LORD, your ear to hear us.
17 Apri, o Signore, i tuoi occhi e considera: non saranno, infatti, i morti negl'inferi, il cui spirito è stato tolto dalle loro viscere, che daranno gloria e giustizia al Signore,	17 Look directly at us, and behold: it is not the dead in the nether world, whose spirits have been taken from within them, who will give glory and vindication to the LORD.
18 ma sarà piuttosto l'anima gravemente afflitta, sarà chi cammina curvo e debole, gli occhi sfiniti e l'anima indigente, che darà a te gloria e giustizia, o Signore.	18 He whose soul is deeply grieved, who walks bowed and feeble, with failing eyes and famished soul, will declare your glory and justice, LORD!
19 Poiché non per i meriti dei padri nostri e dei nostri re noi rivolgiamo a te la nostra invocazione, o Signore, Dio nostro.	19 "Not on the just deeds of our fathers and our kings do we base our plea for mercy in your sight, O LORD, our God.
20 Perché tu hai riversato il tuo sdegno e la tua ira contro di noi, come avevi annunziato per mezzo dei servi tuoi, i profeti, dicendo:	20 You have brought your wrath and anger down upon us, as you had warned us through your servants the prophets:
21 "Così dice il Signore: Piegate il vostro collo e servite al re di Babilonia, così dimorerete nel paese che io ho dato ai padri vostri.	21 'Thus says the LORD: Bend your shoulders to the service of the king of Babylon, that you may continue in the land I gave your fathers:
22 Ma se non volete ascoltare la voce del Signore, servendo al re di Babilonia,	22 for if you do not hear the LORD'S voice so as to serve the king of Babylon,
23 farò cessare dalle città di Giuda e fuori di Gerusalemme la voce dell'allegria, la voce della gioia, la voce dello sposo e la voce della sposa e tutto il paese sarà desolato e senza abitanti".	23 I will make to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem The sounds of joy and the sounds of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; And all the land shall be deserted, without inhabitants.'
24 Noi, però, non abbiamo ascoltato la tua voce servendo il re di Babilonia e così hai realizzato le parole che tu avevi pronunciato per mezzo dei tuoi servi, i profeti; cioè, che le ossa dei nostri re e le ossa dei nostri padri sarebbero state rimosse dal loro sepolcro.	24 But we did not heed your voice, or serve the king of Babylon, and you fulfilled the threats you had made through your servants the prophets, to have the bones of our kings and the bones of our fathers brought out from their burial places.
25 Ora, ecco che stanno esposte al calore del giorno e al gelo della notte. Sono morti di pene atroci, di fame, di spada e di peste,	25 And indeed, they lie exposed to the heat of day and the frost of night. They died in dire anguish, by hunger and the sword and plague.
26 e hai fatto della casa, sulla quale è stato invocato il tuo nome, quello che si vede oggi stesso, a causa della malvagità della casa d'Israele e della casa di Giuda.	26 And you reduced the house which bears your name to what it is today, for the wickedness of the kingdom of Israel and the kingdom of Judah.
27 Nonostante ciò, tu hai agito verso di noi secondo la tua totale bontà e secondo tutta la tua grande misericordia, o Signore, Dio nostro,	27 "But with us, O Lord, our God, you have dealt in all your clemency and in all your great mercy.
28 come tu avevi parlato per mezzo del tuo servo Mosè nel giorno in cui gli ordinasti di scrivere la tua legge dinanzi a tutti i figli d'Israele dicendo:	28 This was your warning through your servant Moses, the day you ordered him to write down your law in the presence of the Israelites:
29 "Se non ascolterete la mia voce, di sicuro, questa grande moltitudine sarà ridotta a un piccolo numero tra le nazioni dove io li disperderò;	29 If you do not heed my voice, surely this great and numerous throng will dwindle away among the nations to which I will scatter them.
30 poiché io so che non mi daranno ascolto, essendo un popolo di cervice dura. Tuttavia nel paese del loro esilio rientreranno nel loro cuore	30 For I know they will not heed me, because they are a stiff-necked people. But in the land of their captivity they shall have a change of heart;
31 e riconosceranno che io sono il Signore, Dio loro. Allora io darò loro un cuore e orecchi che ascoltano	31 they shall know that I, the LORD, am their God. I will give them hearts, and heedful ears;
32 ed essi mi daranno lode nel paese del loro esilio, si ricorderanno del mio nome	32 and they shall praise me in the land of their captivity, and shall invoke my name.
33 e si convertiranno dalla loro durezza e dalle loro azioni malvagie, poiché ricorderanno la condotta dei loro padri che peccarono contro il Signore.	33 Then they shall turn back from their stiff-necked stubbornness, and from their evil deeds, because they shall remember the fate of their fathers who sinned against the LORD.
34 Io allora li ricondurrò nel paese che giurai ai padri loro, ad Abramo, a Isacco e a Giacobbe, e ne avranno il dominio. Io li moltiplicherò e non diminuiranno.	34 And I will bring them back to the land which with my oath I promised to their fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; and they shall rule it. I will make them increase; they shall not then diminish.
35 Io stabilirò con loro un'alleanza perenne per cui io sarò per essi il loro Dio ed essi saranno per me il mio popolo e non scaccerò più il popolo mio Israele dal paese che ho dato loro".	35 And I will establish for them, as an eternal covenant, that I will be their God, and they shall be my people; and I will not again remove my people Israel from the land I gave them.
