LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Allora Zofar di Naama prese la parola e disse:	1 Zophar of Naamath spoke next. He said:
2 "Per questo le mie riflessioni mi spingono a rispondere: a causa dell'agitazione che sento in me.	2 My thoughts urge me to reply to this, and hence the impatience that grips me.
3 Ho ascoltato una lezione umiliante, ma l'ispirazione del mio senno mi fa replicare.	3 I have put up with prating that outrages me and now my mind inspires me with an answer.
4 Non sai tu che da sempre, da quando l'uomo fu posto sulla terra,	4 Do you not know, that since time began and human beings were set on the earth,
5 la felicità dei malvagi è effimera e la gioia degli empi dura un istante?	5 the triumph of the wicked has always been brief, and the sinner's gladness has never lasted long?
6 Anche se la sua ambizione sale fino al cielo e il suo capo tocca le nubi,	6 Towering to the sky he may have been, his head touching the clouds;
7 perirà per sempre, come il suo escremento, e chi l'ha visto dirà: "Dov'è?".	7 but he vanishes, like a phantom, once for al , while those who used to see him, ask, 'Where is he?'

11 Le sue ossa ancor piene di vigore con lui giacciono nella polvere.	11 His bones used to be ful of youthful vigour: and there it lies, in the dust with him, now!
12 Se fu dolce il male alla sua bocca, se lo nascondeva sotto la lingua,	12 Evil was sweet to his mouth, he would shelter it under his tongue;
13 se lo assapora, senza inghiottirlo ritenendolo contro il palato,	13 cultivating it careful y, he would let it linger on his palate.
14 il suo cibo si altera nelle sue viscere, divenendo un veleno di vipera dentro di lui.	14 Such food goes bad in his bel y, working inside him like the poison of a viper.
15 I beni che aveva divorato, li rivomita; Dio glieli caccia fuori dal ventre.	15 Now he has to vomit up the wealth that he has swal owed, God makes him disgorge it.
16 Succhiò veleno di aspide, una lingua di vipera lo uccide.	16 He used to suck vipers' venom, and the tongue of the adder kills him.
17 Non vedrà più ruscelli d'olio, torrenti di miele e fior di latte.	17 No more will he know the streams of oil or the torrents of honey and cream.
18 Restituisce il frutto della fatica, senza averne goduto, e di ciò che guadagnò commerciando, non si rallegra.	18 When he gives back his winnings, his cheerfulness wil fade, and the satisfied air he had whenbusiness was thriving.
19 Perché ha oppresso e lasciato in miseria i poveri e si appropriò di case che non costruì;	19 Since he once destroyed the huts of the poor, plundering houses instead of building them up,
20 perché il suo ventre non ha saputo accontentarsi, non poteva sottrarsi al suo appetito.	20 since his avarice could never be satisfied, now al his hoarding will not save him;
21 Niente sfuggiva alla sua voracità, perciò il suo benessere non è stabile.	21 since nothing could escape his greed, his prosperity wil not last.
22 Nel colmo dell'abbondanza si troverà in strettezze, tutti i colpi della sventura piomberanno su di lui.	22 When he has everything he needs, want wil seize him, and misery wil light on him with all its force.
23 Quando starà per riempire il suo ventre, Dio scatenerà contro di lui l'ardore della sua ira e gli farà piovere addosso brace.	23 On him God looses al his burning wrath, hurling against his flesh a hail of arrows.
24 Se sfugge all'arma del ferro, lo trafiggerà l'arma di bronzo;	24 If he escapes the weapons of iron, the bow of bronze wil transfix him.
25 estrae la freccia che esce dal suo corpo, e quando la punta abbandona il fegato, i terrori irrompono su di lui.	25 Out of his back sticks an arrow, from his gal a shining point. The terrors advance on him,
26 Tutte le tenebre sono a lui riservate, lo divora un fuoco non acceso da uomo; esso consuma quanto è rimasto nella tenda.	26 all the hidden darknesses are waiting to carry him off. A fire unlit by human hand devours him, andconsumes what is left in his tent.
27 Il cielo rivela la sua iniquità e contro di lui si solleva la terra.	27 The heavens lay bare his iniquity, and the earth rises up against him.
28 Un'alluvione travolge la sua casa, acque tumultuose nel giorno della sua ira.	28 The income of his house pours away, like the torrents, on the day of retribution.
29 Questa è la sorte che Dio riserva all'uomo malvagio, la parte di eredità aggiudicatagli da Dio".	29 Such is the fate God reserves for the wicked, the inheritance he assigns to the accursed!
