| 1 - Ebbene adesso, o ricchi, piangete, urlate a motivo delle miserie che verranno sopra di voi. | 1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you. |
| 2 Le vostre ricchezze si sono imputridite e le vostre vestimenta sono state róse dalle tignuole. | 2 Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. |
| 3 L'oro e l'argento vostro è arrugginito: e la loro ruggine sarà una testimonianza contro di voi, e quasi fuoco, divorerà le vostre carni. Vi siete adunati tesori d'ira per gli ultimi giorni. | 3 Your gold and silver have rusted, and their rust will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure for the last days. |
| 4 Ecco, la mercede dei lavoratori, che han mietuto i vostri campi, frodata da voi alza le grida; e queste grida son giunte agli orecchi del Signore degli eserciti. | 4 Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. |
| 5 Siete vissuti banchettando sulla terra, e nelle delizie avete nutriti i vostri cuori per il giorno dell'immolazione. | 5 You have lived on the earth in luxury and in pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. |
| 6 Voi avete condannato e ucciso il giusto, ed egli non vi ha fatto resistenza. | 6 You have condemned, you have killed the righteous man; he does not resist you. |
| 7 Siate dunque pazienti, o fratelli, sino alla venuta del Signore. Ecco, l'agricoltore aspetta il prezioso frutto della terra, [e l'aspetta con pazienza], finchè riceva [il frutto] primaticcio e il serotino. | 7 Be patient, therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it until it receives the early and the late rain. |
| 8 Siate dunque anche voi pazienti, e rinfrancate i vostri cuori: perchè la venuta del Signore è vicina. | 8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. |
| 9 Fratelli, non vogliate lamentarvi l'uno contro l'altro, per non essere condannati. Ecco che il giudice sta alla porta. | 9 Do not grumble, brethren, against one another, that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the doors. |
| 10 Prendete, fratelli, come esempio nel sopportare i mali e le fatiche e nella pazienza, i profeti, che han parlato nel nome del Signore. | 10 As an example of suffering and patience, brethren, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. |
| 11 Ecco, noi chiamiamo beati quelli che soffrirono. Avete udito la sofferenza di Giobbe e avete veduto quel che il Signore gli ha dato alla fine, perchè il Signore è misericordioso e usa misericordia. | 11 Behold, we call those happy who were steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful. |
| 12 Soprattutto, fratelli miei, non vogliate giurare, nè per il cielo, nè per la terra, nè con qualsiasi altra forma di giuramento. Ma il vostro parlare sia: «Sì, sì; no, no»; per non cadere sotto giudizio. | 12 But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath, but let your yes be yes and your no be no, that you may not fall under condemnation. |
| 13 C'era tra voi qualcuno che soffre? Preghi! Qualcuno d'animo lieto? Salmeggi! | 13 Is any one among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praise. |
| 14 C'è tra voi qualcuno che sia ammalato? Faccia chiamare i presbiteri della Chiesa, che preghino su lui, ungendolo con l'olio nel nome del Signore; | 14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; |
| 15 e l'orazione della fede salverà l'infermo, e il Signore lo solleverà; e se trovasi in peccati, gli saranno rimessi. | 15 and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. |
| 16 Confessate dunque l'uno all'altro i vostri peccati, e pregate l'uno per l'altro, per essere salvi; perchè la preghiera assidua del giusto ha gran potenza. | 16 Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects. |
| 17 Elia era un uomo passibile come noi, e pregò ardentemente che non cadesse pioggia sulla terra, e non piovve per tre anni e sei mesi. | 17 Elijah was a man of like nature with ourselves and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. |
| 18 Poi pregò di nuovo e il cielo diede pioggia e la terra diede il suo frutto. | 18 Then he prayed again and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth its fruit. |
| 19 Fratelli miei, se qualcuno tra voi devia dalla verità e un altro lo riconduce [nel retto cammino], | 19 My brethren, if any one among you wanders from the truth and some one brings him back, |
| 20 deve sapere che chi ritrae un peccatore dall'errore della sua via, salverà l'anima di lui dalla morte e coprirà una moltitudine di peccati. | 20 let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. |
