Siracide 7

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Male non fare e male non t'incoglierà;	1 Do no evil, and evil will not overtake you;
2 sta lontano dall'iniquo, e i mali s'allontaneranno da te.	2 avoid wickedness, and it will turn aside from you.
3 Figliuolo, non seminare il male ne' solchi dell'ingiustizia, e non avrai da mieterne il settuplo.	3 Sow not in the furrows of injustice, lest you harvest it sevenfold.
4 Non cercar dal Signore un principato, nè dal re un seggio d'onore.	4 Seek not from the LORD authority, nor from the king a place of honor.
5 Non vantar la tua giustizia dinanzi al Signore, perch'egli conosce il cuore, e non fare il sapiente davanti al re.	5 Parade not your justice before the Lord, and before the king flaunt not your wisdom.
6 Non cercar di diventare giudice, se non hai forza di sradicar le ingiustizie; perchè tu non abbia a temere in faccia al potente, e mettere inciampi alla tua equità.	6 Seek not to become a judge if you have not strength to root out crime, Or you will show favor to the ruler and mar your integrity.
7 Non peccar contro la cittadinanza, e non ti gettar sul popolo.	7 Be guilty of no evil before the city's populace, nor disgrace yourself before the assembly.
8 Non legare insieme due peccati; perchè neppur per un solo non resterai impunito.	8 Do not plot to repeat a sin; not even for one will you go unpunished.
9 Non esser pusillanime in cuor tuo,	9 Say not: "He will appreciate my many gifts; the Most High will accept my offerings."
10 e non trascurar di pregare e far limosina.	10 Be not impatient in prayers, and neglect not the giving of alms.
11 Non dire: «Iddio guarderà alla moltitudine delle mie offerte, e quand'io offro i miei doni al Dio altissimo, gli accoglierà».	11 Laugh not at an embittered man; be mindful of him who exalts and humbles.
12 Non deridere l'uomo nell'amarezza dell'anima [sua], perchè c'è chi umilia ed esalta, Dio che tutto vede.	12 Plot no mischief against your brother, nor against your friend and companion.
13 Non coltivar menzogne contro il tuo fratello, nè fare altrettanto verso un amico.	13 Delight not in telling lie after lie, for it never results in good.
14 Non voler mai dire nessuna bugia: perchè l'abitudine del mentire non porta bene,	14 Thrust not yourself into the deliberations of princes, and repeat not the words of your prayer.
15 Non esser ciarliero nella compagnia de' vecchi, e non ripeter le parole nelle tue preghiere.	15 Hate not laborious tasks, nor farming, which was ordained by the Most High.
16 Non odiare il lavoro faticoso, nè l'agricoltura creata dall'Altissimo.	16 Do not esteem yourself better than your fellows; remember, his wrath will not delay.
17 Non ti metter nel branco de' peccatori;	17 More and more, humble your pride; what awaits man is worms.
18 ricordati che l'ira [divina] non tarderà.	18 Barter not a friend for money, nor a dear brother for the gold of Ophir.
19 Umilia profondamente l'anima tua, perchè castigo della carne dell'empio [sarà] il fuoco e il verme.	19 Dismiss not a sensible wife; a gracious wife is more precious than corals.
20 Non peccar contro l'amico che tarda [a darti] il danaro, nè disprezzar per l'oro un fratello carissimo.	20 Mistreat not a servant who faithfully serves, nor a laborer who devotes himself to his task.
21 Non ti separar da una donna savia e buona, che nel timor del Signore t'è toccata in sorte; perchè la pudica sua grazia [vai] più dell'oro.	21 Let a wise servant be dear to you as your own self; refuse him not his freedom.
22 Non maltrattare lo schiavo che con fedeltà lavora, nè il mercenario che ci mette l'anima sua.	22 If you have livestock, look after them; if they are dependable, keep them.
23 Il servo assennato ti sia caro come l'anima tua; non lo fraudar della sua libertà, nè lo lasciar nell'indigenza.	23 If you have sons, chastise them; bend their necks from childhood.
24 Hai bestiami? prendine cura, e se ti son utili, restin presso di te.	24 If you have daughters, keep them chaste, and be not indulgent to them.
25 Hai figliuoli? istruiscili, e piegali [al giogo] sin dalla loro infanzia.	25 Giving your daughter in marriage ends a great task; but give her to a worthy man.
26 Hai figliuole? custodisci il loro corpo, e non mostrare ad esse [troppo] ridente il tuo volto.	26 If you have a wife, let her not seem odious to you; but where there is ill-feeling, trust her not.
27 Marita la figliuola, e avrai fatto un grosso affare, ma dalla a un uomo sensato.	27 With your whole heart honor your father; your mother's birthpangs forget not.
28 Hai una donna secondo il tuo cuore, non la mandar via; ma non ti affidare a una che ti sia odiosa.	28 Remember, of these parents you were born; what can you give them for all they gave you?
29 Con tutto il tuo cuore onora tuo padre, e non dimenticar le doglie di tua madre.	29 With all your soul, fear God, revere his priests.
30 Ricordati che senza di essi non saresti nato, e rendi loro a seconda di quanto t'han dato.	30 With all your strength, love your Creator, forsake not his ministers.
31 Con tutta l'anima tua temi il Signore, e venera i suoi sacerdoti.	31 Honor God and respect the priest; give him his portion as you have been commanded: First fruits and contributions, due sacrifices and holy offerings.
32 Con tutte le tue forze ama il tuo crcntore, e non abbandonare i suoi ministri.	32 To the poor man also extend your hand, that your blessing may be complete;
33 Venera Iddio con tutta l'anima tua e rispetta i sacerdoti, e purificati con le spalle [delle vittime].	33 Be generous to all the living, and withhold not your kindness from the dead.
34 E dà ad essi la parte [loro], come t'è stato comandato, le primizie e [la vittima] d'espiazione, e della tua negligenza mondati con poco;	34 Avoid not those who weep, but mourn with those who mourn;
35 l'offerta delle tue spalle, e il sacrifizio di santificazione offrirai al Signore, e le primizie dovute ai santi.	35 Neglect not to visit the sick-- for these things you will be loved.
36 Anche al povero stendi la tua mano, perchè sia completa la tua espiazione e la tua benedizione.	36 In whatever you do, remember your last days, and you will never sin.
37 Gradito è il dono a tutti i viventi; e [neppure] al morto non negar la [tua] grazia.
38 Non mancar di porger conforto a quei chè piangono, e va' con gli afflitti.
39 Non ti sia grave visitare il malato, perchè con tali cose t'assicurerai l'amore. In tutte le opere tue ricordati della tua fine, e non peccherai in eterno.
