Titus 3

CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Admonish them to be subordinate to the rulers and authorities, to obey their dictates, to be prepared for every good work,	1 Remind them to be obedient to the officials in authority; to be ready to do good at every opportunity;
2 to speak evil of no one, not to be litigious, but to be reserved, displaying all meekness toward all men.	2 not to go slandering other people but to be peaceable and gentle, and always polite to people of al kinds.
3 For, in times past, we ourselves were also unwise, unbelieving, erring, servants of various desires and pleasures, acting with malice and envy, being hateful and hating one another.	3 There was a time when we too were ignorant, disobedient and misled and enslaved by different passionsand dissipations; we lived then in wickedness and malice, hating each other and hateful ourselves.
4 But then the kindness and humanity of God our Savior appeared.	4 But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour for humanity were revealed,
5 And he saved us, not by works of justice that we had done, but, in accord with his mercy, by the washing of regeneration and by the renovation of the Holy Spirit,	5 it was not because of any upright actions we had done ourselves; it was for no reason except his ownfaithful love that he saved us, by means of the cleansing water of rebirth and renewal in the Holy Spirit
6 whom he has poured out upon us in abundance, through Jesus Christ our Savior,	6 which he has so generously poured over us through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we may become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.	7 so that, justified by his grace, we should become heirs in hope of eternal life.
8 This is a faithful saying. And I want you to confirm these things, so that those who believe in God may take care to excel in good works. These things are good and useful to men.	8 This is doctrine that you can rely on. I want you to be quite uncompromising in teaching all this, so thatthose who now believe in God may keep their minds constantly occupied in doing good works. Al this is good,and useful for everybody.
9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, as well as arguments against the law. For these are useless and empty.	9 But avoid foolish speculations, and those genealogies, and the quibbles and disputes about the Law --they are useless and futile.
10 Avoid a man who is a heretic, after the first and second correction,	10 If someone disputes what you teach, then after a first and a second warning, have no more to do withhim:
11 knowing that one who is like this has been subverted, and that he offends; for he has been condemned by his own judgment.	11 you wil know that anyone of that sort is warped and is self-condemned as a sinner.
12 When I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, hurry to return to me at Nicopolis. For I have decided to winter there.	12 As soon as I have sent Artemas or Tychicus to you, do your best to join me at Nicopolis, where I havedecided to spend the winter.
13 Send Zenas the lawyer and Apollo ahead with care, and let nothing be lacking to them.	13 Help eagerly on their way Zenas the lawyer and Apollos, and make sure they have everything theyneed.
14 But let our men also learn to excel in good works pertaining to the necessities of life, so that they may not be unfruitful.	14 Al our people must also learn to occupy themselves in doing good works for their practical needs, andnot to be unproductive.
15 All those who are with me greet you. Greet those who love us in the faith. May the grace of God be with you all. Amen.	15 Al those who are with me send their greetings. Greetings to those who love us in the faith. Grace bewith you all.
