John 17

1 Jesus said these things, and then, lifting up his eyes toward heaven, he said: “Father, the hour has arrived: glorify your Son, so that your Son may glorify you,	1 Così parlò Gesù. Poi, alzàti gli occhi al cielo, disse: «Padre, è venuta l’ora: glorifica il Figlio tuo perché il Figlio glorifichi te.
2 just as you have given authority over all flesh to him, so that he may give eternal life to all those whom you have given to him.	2 Tu gli hai dato potere su ogni essere umano, perché egli dia la vita eterna a tutti coloro che gli hai dato.
3 And this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.	3 Questa è la vita eterna: che conoscano te, l’unico vero Dio, e colui che hai mandato, Gesù Cristo.
4 I have glorified you on earth. I have completed the work that you gave me to accomplish.	4 Io ti ho glorificato sulla terra, compiendo l’opera che mi hai dato da fare.
5 And now Father, glorify me within yourself, with the glory that I had with you before the world ever was.	5 E ora, Padre, glorificami davanti a te con quella gloria che io avevo presso di te prima che il mondo fosse.
6 I have manifested your name to the men whom you have given to me from the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me. And they have kept your word.	6 Ho manifestato il tuo nome agli uomini che mi hai dato dal mondo. Erano tuoi e li hai dati a me, ed essi hanno osservato la tua parola.
7 Now they realize that all the things that you have given me are from you.	7 Ora essi sanno che tutte le cose che mi hai dato vengono da te,
8 For I have given them the words that you gave to me. And they have accepted these words, and they have truly understood that I went forth from you, and they have believed that you sent me.	8 perché le parole che hai dato a me io le ho date a loro. Essi le hanno accolte e sanno veramente che sono uscito da te e hanno creduto che tu mi hai mandato.
9 I pray for them. I do not pray for the world, but for those whom you have given to me. For they are yours.	9 Io prego per loro; non prego per il mondo, ma per coloro che tu mi hai dato, perché sono tuoi.
10 And all that is mine is yours, and all that is yours is mine, and I am glorified in this.	10 Tutte le cose mie sono tue, e le tue sono mie, e io sono glorificato in loro.
11 And though I am not in the world, these are in the world, and I am coming to you. Father most holy, preserve them in your name, those whom you have given to me, so that they may be one, even as we are one.	11 Io non sono più nel mondo; essi invece sono nel mondo, e io vengo a te. Padre santo, custodiscili nel tuo nome, quello che mi hai dato, perché siano una sola cosa, come noi.
12 While I was with them, I preserved them in your name. I have guarded those whom you have given to me, and not one of them is lost, except the son of perdition, so that the Scripture may be fulfilled.	12 Quand’ero con loro, io li custodivo nel tuo nome, quello che mi hai dato, e li ho conservati, e nessuno di loro è andato perduto, tranne il figlio della perdizione, perché si compisse la Scrittura.
13 And now I am coming to you. But I am speaking these things in the world, so that they may have the fullness of my joy within themselves.	13 Ma ora io vengo a te e dico questo mentre sono nel mondo, perché abbiano in se stessi la pienezza della mia gioia.
14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them. For they are not of the world, just as I, too, am not of the world.	14 Io ho dato loro la tua parola e il mondo li ha odiati, perché essi non sono del mondo, come io non sono del mondo.
15 I am not praying that you would take them out of the world, but that you would preserve them from evil.	15 Non prego che tu li tolga dal mondo, ma che tu li custodisca dal Maligno.
16 They are not of the world, just as I also am not of the world.	16 Essi non sono del mondo, come io non sono del mondo.
17 Sanctify them in truth. Your word is truth.	17 Consacrali nella verità. La tua parola è verità.
18 Just as you have sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.	18 Come tu hai mandato me nel mondo, anche io ho mandato loro nel mondo;
19 And it is for them that I sanctify myself, so that they, too, may be sanctified in truth.	19 per loro io consacro me stesso, perché siano anch’essi consacrati nella verità.
20 But I am not praying for them only, but also for those who through their word shall believe in me.	20 Non prego solo per questi, ma anche per quelli che crederanno in me mediante la loro parola:
21 So may they all be one. Just as you, Father, are in me, and I am in you, so also may they be one in us: so that the world may believe that you have sent me.	21 perché tutti siano una sola cosa; come tu, Padre, sei in me e io in te, siano anch’essi in noi, perché il mondo creda che tu mi hai mandato.
22 And the glory that you have given to me, I have given to them, so that they may be one, just as we also are one.	22 E la gloria che tu hai dato a me, io l’ho data a loro, perché siano una sola cosa come noi siamo una sola cosa.
23 I am in them, and you are in me. So may they be perfected as one. And may the world know that you have sent me and that you have loved them, just as you have also loved me.	23 Io in loro e tu in me, perché siano perfetti nell’unità e il mondo conosca che tu mi hai mandato e che li hai amati come hai amato me.
24 Father, I will that where I am, those whom you have given to me may also be with me, so that they may see my glory which you have given to me. For you loved me before the founding of the world.	24 Padre, voglio che quelli che mi hai dato siano anch’essi con me dove sono io, perché contemplino la mia gloria, quella che tu mi hai dato; poiché mi hai amato prima della creazione del mondo.
25 Father most just, the world has not known you. But I have known you. And these have known that you sent me.	25 Padre giusto, il mondo non ti ha conosciuto, ma io ti ho conosciuto, e questi hanno conosciuto che tu mi hai mandato.
26 And I have made known your name to them, and I will make it known, so that the love in which you have loved me may be in them, and so that I may be in them.”	26 E io ho fatto conoscere loro il tuo nome e lo farò conoscere, perché l’amore con il quale mi hai amato sia in essi e io in loro».
