1 The burden that Habakkuk the prophet saw.	1 Die Botschaft, die der Prophet Habakuk geschaut hat.
2 How long, O Lord, shall I cry out, and you will not heed? Shall I shout to you while suffering violence, and you will not save?	2 Wie lange, Herr, muß ich um Hilfe rufen, doch du hörst nicht, muß ich zu dir schreien "Gewalttat", doch du rettest nicht!
3 Why have you revealed to me iniquity and hardship, to see plunder and injustice opposite me? And there has been judgment, but the opposition is more powerful.	3 Warum läßt du mich Unrecht schauen und siehst du dem Unheil zu? Warum stehen Verheerung und Gewalttat mir vor Augen, herrscht Streit und erhebt sich Zwietracht?
4 Because of this, the law has been torn apart, and judgment does not persevere to its conclusion. For the impious prevail against the just. Because of this, a perverse judgment is issued.	4 Darum erschlafft das Gesetz, und das Recht verliert für dauernd seine Geltung. Denn der Frevler umgarnt den Gerechten; deshalb behauptet sich verdrehtes Recht.
5 Gaze among the nations, and see. Admire, and be astounded. For a work has been done in your days, which no one will believe when it is told.	5 "Blickt auf die Völker und schaut, staunt und erstarrt! Denn ich vollführe ein Werk in euren Tagen, das ihr nicht glaubtet, wenn es erzählt würde.
6 For behold, I will raise up the Chaldeans, a bitter and swift people, marching across the width of the earth, to possess tabernacles not their own.	6 Ja, seht, ich lasse die Kaldäer aufstehen, das grimmige, ungestüme Volk, das in die fernsten Räume der Erde zieht, um Wohnsitze einzunehmen, die ihm nicht gehören.
7 It is dreadful and terrible. From themselves, judgment and their burden will issue.	7 Schrecklich ist es und furchtbar; es bringt sein Recht und seine Hoheit zur Geltung.
8 Their horses are more nimble than leopards and swifter than wolves in the evening; their horsemen will spread out. And then their horsemen will approach from far away; they will fly like the eagle, hurrying to devour.	8 Schneller als Panther sind seine Rosse, flinker als Steppenwölfe; seine Reiter stürmen daher, seine Reiter, die aus der Ferne kommen; sie fliegen herbei wie ein Adler beim Sturz auf die Beute.
9 They will all approach towards the prey; their face is like a burning wind. And they will gather captives together like sand.	9 Sie alle gehen auf Gewalttat aus, Schrecken zieht ihnen voran, Gefangene sammeln sie wie Sand.
10 And concerning kings, he will triumph, and sovereign rulers will be his laughingstock, and he will laugh over every fortress, and he will transport a rampart and seize it.	10 Dies Volk verspottet Könige, und Fürsten sind ihm zum Gelächter. Es lacht über jede Festung, schüttet Erde auf und nimmt sie ein.
11 Then his spirit will be altered, and he will cross over and fall. Such is his strength from his god.	11 Dann plötzlich, wie ein Windstoß, zieht es von dannen und macht sich seine Kraft zu seinem Gott."
12 Have you not existed from the beginning, Lord my God, my holy one, and so we shall not die? Lord, you have stationed him for judgment, and you have establish that his strength will be swept away.	12 Bist nicht du, Herr, von Anfang an mein heiliger Gott, der niemals stirbt? Herr, du hast jenes Volk zum Gericht bestellt; mein Fels, du hast es zum Strafen bestimmt.
13 Your eyes are pure, you do not behold evil, and you cannot look towards iniquity. Why do you look upon the agents of iniquity, and remain silent, while the impious is devouring one who is more just than himself?	13 Zu rein sind deine Augen, um Böses mitanzusehen, und es ist dir unmöglich, dem Unrecht zuzuschauen. Warum denn schaust du den Treulosen zu und schweigst, wenn der Frevler den Gerechten verschlingt!
14 And you will make men like the fish of the sea and like the creeping things that have no ruler.	14 Du machtest die Menschen wie Fische im Meer, dem Gewimmel gleich, dem der Herrscher fehlt.
15 He lifted up everything with his hook. He drew them in with his dragnet, and gathered them into his netting. Over this, he will rejoice and exult.	15 Er holt sie alle mit der Angel herauf, schleift sie weg in seinem Netz. Er fängt sie mit seinem Garn; das bereitet ihm Freude und Jubel.
16 For this reason, he will offer victims to his dragnet, and he will sacrifice to his netting. For through them, his portion has been made fat, and his meals elite.	16 Darum bringt er seinem Netz Opfer dar und Rauchopfer seinem Garn. Durch sie ward ja seine Ausbeute fett und üppig sein Mahl.
17 Because of this, therefore, he expands his dragnet and will not be lenient in continually putting to death the peoples.	17 Darf er deshalb dauernd sein Schwert zücken, um Völker zu morden ohne Erbarmen?
