1 In the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar saw a dream, and his spirit was terrified, and his dream fled from him.	1 Nel secondo anno del regno di Nabucodonosor, vide Nabucodonosor uno sogno, del quale fu molto turbato e spaventato; ma questa visione fu da lui tolta e dimenticata.
2 Yet the king commanded that the seers, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans be gathered together to reveal to the king his dreams. When they arrived, they stood in front of the king.	2 Per la qual cosa (desideroso di saperla) sì convocò tutti li savii uomini, maghi e divinatori di Caldea (e di Babilonia), acciò che dichiarassino i sogni suoi al re: ed essendo venuti, stettero dinanzi al re.
3 And the king said to them, “I saw a dream, and, being confused in mind, I do not know what I saw.”	3 E disse lo re a loro: io sì ho veduto una visione, della quale non mi posso ricordare quello ch' io abbi veduto.
4 And the Chaldeans answered the king in Syriac, “O king, live forever. Tell the dream to your servants, and we will reveal its interpretation.”	4 E li savii Caldei risposero al re in lingua siriaca: o re, vivi in sempiterno; di' (signore nostro re) alli servi tuoi lo sogno, e noi diremo a te la interpretazione.
5 And in answer, the king said to the Chaldeans, “The memory of it has slipped away from me. Unless you reveal the dream to me, and its meaning, you will be put to death, and your houses will be confiscated.	5 A' quali lo re disse: non mi ricordo; (ma da voi lo voglio sapere), e però fate (come volete) che per voi io sappi lo sogno e la sua congettura; e se questo non farete, perirete voi con tutte le case vostre (e vostri beni).
6 But if you explain the dream and its meaning, you will receive from me rewards, and gifts, and great honor. Therefore, reveal to me the dream and its interpretation.”	6 E se lo sogno e la congettura sua voi mi narrate, averete da me premii, doni e grande onore; lo sogno dunque e la sua interpretazione, manifestàtemela.
7 They answered again and said, “Let the king tell the dream to his servants, and we will reveal its interpretation.”	7 Risposero la seconda volta, e dissero: o re, lo sogno di' alli servi tuoi, e la sua interpretazione ti manifestaremo.
8 The king answered and said, “I am certain that you are stalling for time because you know that the memory of it has slipped away from me.	8 Rispose il re, e disse: certamente io so che voi prolungate il tempo, intendendo che lo sogno m'è scordato.
9 Therefore, if you do not reveal to me the dream, there is only one conclusion to be reached about you, that the interpretation is likewise false, and packed full of deception, so as to speak before me until the time passes away. And so, tell me the dream, so that I will also know that the interpretation that you tell me is likewise true.”	9 Se lo sogno non mi manifesterete, una di voi è (opinione e) sentenza, che abbiate composta una interpretazione fallace, piena d' inganni, e quella mi vogliate dire, acciò che il tempo passi. Però ditemi prima lo sogno, acciò ch' io sappi che la interpretazione vostra sia vera.
10 Then the Chaldeans answered before the king, and they said, “There is no man on earth who can accomplish your word, O king. For neither has any king, however great and mighty, asked for an answer of this kind from every seer, and astrologer, and Chaldean.	10 Rispondendo dunque li Caldei dinanzi allo re, dissero: o signore, non è uomo sopra la terra, che lo vostro sermone potesse adempire; e non fu mai alcuno re grande e potente, che tal dimanda facesse ad alcuno mago o divinatore caldeo.
11 For the answer that you seek, O king, is very difficult. Neither can anyone be found who can reveal it in the sight of the king, except the gods, whose conversation is not with men.”	11 Quello, signore re, che tu cerchi di sapere, è grave cosa; nè si poterà trovare chi lo dimostri nel conspetto del re; ma questo solamente s'appartiene alli dii, i quali non hanno conversazione cogli uomini.
12 When he heard this, the king commanded, in fury and in great wrath, that all the wise men of Babylon should be destroyed.	12 La qual cosa udita, lo re essendo ripieno di gran furore e ira, comandò che tutti li savii di Babilonia devessono perire.
13 And when the decree had gone forth, the wise men were put to death; and Daniel and his companions were sought, to be destroyed.	13 ...; ed era cercato Daniele, e li suoi compagni, acciò che insieme cogli altri dovessono perire.
14 Then Daniel inquired, about the law and the sentence, of Arioch, the general of the king’s army, who had gone forth to execute the wise men of Babylon.	14 Allotta Daniele ricercò da Arioc, principe della cavalleria del re, il quale era uscito fuori per far morire i savii di Babilonia, della legge e della sentenza (che era data contro di loro).
15 And he asked him, who had received the orders of the king, for what reason such a cruel sentence had gone forth from the face of the king. And so, when Arioch had revealed the matter to Daniel,	15 E dimandò (Daniel) Arioc, il quale avea avuto la potestà dal re, per che cagione così crudele sentenza era uscita dalla faccia del re. E avendo Arioc dichiarato la cosa a Daniele,
16 Daniel went in and asked of the king that he would grant him time to reveal the solution to the king.	16 entrò Daniele al re, e pregollo che li dovesse dare tempo, acciò che li potesse manifestare quello che dimandava.
17 And he went into his house and explained the task to Hananiah, and Mishael, and Azariah, his companions,	17 Ed entrò Daniele in casa sua; e manifestò la cosa ad Anania, Misael e Azaria suoi compagni,
18 so that they would seek mercy before the face of the God of heaven, about this mystery, and so that Daniel and his companions might not perish with the other wise men of Babylon.	18 acciò che dimandassero misericordia dalla. faccia di Dio del cielo sopra questo sacramento, e non perisse Daniele e li suoi compagni cogli altri savii di Babilonia.
19 Then the secret was revealed to Daniel by a vision in the night. And Daniel blessed the God of heaven,	19 Allora fu rivelato a Daniele questo misterio per visione la notte; e benedisse Daniele Iddio del cielo.
20 and speaking aloud, he said, “May the name of the Lord be blessed by the present generation and for ever; for wisdom and fortitude are his.	20 ... dal seculo per sino al seculo, però che la sapienza e la fortezza sono da lui.
21 And he alters the times and the ages. He takes away kingdoms and he establishes them. He gives wisdom to those who are wise and teaching skills to those who understand.	21 E lui muta li tempi e le etadi; trasferisce i regni, e sì li ordina; dà sapienza alli savii, e scienza alli intelligenti la disciplina.
22 He reveals deep and hidden things, and he knows what has been established in darkness. And the light is with him.	22 Lui rivela le cose oscure e nascoste, e conosce le cose ordinate in occulto; e la luce è con lui.
23 To you, God of our fathers, I confess, and you, I praise. For you have given wisdom and fortitude to me, and now you have revealed to me what we asked of you, for you have uncovered for us the king’s thoughts.”	23 O Iddio de' miei padri, confessomi a te, e si te laudo; però che tu mi hai dato sapienza e fortezza, e ora ha'mi mostrato quello che noi t'avemo pregato, però che tu ci hai aperto la dimanda del re.
24 After this, Daniel went in to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon, and he spoke to him in this way, “Do not destroy the wise men of Babylon. Bring me in before the king, and I will explain the solution to the king.”	24 Dopo questo, Daniel andò ad Arioc, il quale il re avea constituito che perdesse li savii di Babilonia, e sì li disse così: li savii di Babilonia non perdere, introdu'mi nel cospetto dello re, e narrerò al re quello che lui vuole sapere.
25 Then Arioch quickly brought Daniel to the king, and he said to him, “I have found a man of the sons of the transmigration of Judah, who would announce the solution to the king.”	25 Alotta Arioc affrettatamente introdusse Daniele dinanzi al re, e disseli: io ho trovato uno uomo de' figliuoli della traduzione di quelli di Giuda, il quale dichiarirae al re la soluzione (della dimanda).
26 The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, “Do you really think that you can reveal to me the dream that I saw and its interpretation?”	26 Rispose il re, e disse a Daniele, del quale lo nome era Baltassar: credi tu, che tu mi possi manifestare il sogno ch' io vidi, e la sua interpretazione?
27 And Daniel, facing the king, answered and said, “The secret that the king seeks, the wise men, the seers, and the soothsayers are unable to reveal to the king.	27 E rispondendo Daniele dinanzi allo re, disse: lo misterio, lo quale lo re dimanda, li savii e maghi e divinatori non hanno potuto declarare al re.
28 But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, who has revealed to you, king Nebuchadnezzar, what will happen in the latter times. Your dream and the visions of your head upon your bed, are such as these.	28 Ma egli è Iddio in cielo, il quale rivela i misterii, il qual significò a te, re Nabucodonosor, le cose le quali debbono venire negli ultimi tempi. Lo tuo sogno e le visioni del tuo capo nel tuo letto sono queste.
29 You, O king, began to think, while in your blanket, about what will be hereafter. And he who reveals secrets showed you what will happen.	29 Tu, re, cominciasti a pensare nel tuo letto quello che dovesse venire dopo queste [cose]; e quello che rivela li misterii, t' ha dimostrato quelle cose che debbono venire.
30 To me, likewise, this mystery is revealed, not according to the wisdom that is in me more than in other living things, but so that the interpretation might be made manifest to the king, and so that you may know the thoughts of your mind.	30 E anco a me, non nella sapienza, la qual sì è in me più che negli altri uomini che vivono, è stato rivelato questo sacramento; ma acciò che la interpretazione sia manifesta al re, e sappi le cogitazioni della tua mente.
31 You, O king, saw, and behold, something like a great statue. This statue, which was great and high, stood exalted above you, and you considered how terrible it was.	31 Tu, re, vedevi; ed ecco, quasi una statua grande; questa statua era grande e di statura sublime, e stava dinanzi a te, e lo aspetto suo era terribile.
32 The head of this statue was of the finest gold, but the breast and the arms were of silver, and further on, the belly and the thighs were of brass;	32 Lo capo di questa statua era d' oro ottimo; lo petto e le braccia erano d' ariento; ma lo ventre e le coscie erano di bronzo;
33 but the shins were of iron, a certain part of the feet were of iron and another part were of clay.	33 e le gambe di ferro; delli piedi una parte era di ferro, e una di creta.
34 And so you looked until a stone was broken off without hands from a mountain, and it struck the statue on its feet, which were of iron and clay, and it shattered them.	34 Così tu vedevi, per sino che di uno monte fu abscissa una pietra sanza mani, e percosse la statua nelli piedi suoi di ferro e di creta, e sì li minuzzò.
35 Then the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold were crushed together and diminished like the ashes of a summer courtyard, and they were quickly taken away by the wind, and no place was found for them; but the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.	35 Allora furono spezzati così il ferro, come la creta, lo ariento e l'oro, e sono ridotte come in faville di una aja abbruciata, le quali sono tolte dal vento; e non vi fu trovato luogo a lei; e la pietra la qual percosse la statua, fatta è uno monte grande, e riempiè tutta la terra.
36 This is the dream; we will also tell its interpretation before you, O king.	36 Questo è lo sogno; e anco la interpretazione diremo dinanzi a te, re.
37 You are a king among kings, and the God of heaven has given to you a kingdom, and fortitude, and power, and glory,	37 Tu (o re) sei re delli re; e Iddio del cielo ha dato a te il regno, la fortezza, lo imperio e la gloria,
38 and all the places wherein the sons of men and the beasts of the field dwell. He has likewise given the flying creatures of the air into your hand, and he has placed all things under your realm. Therefore, you are the head of gold.	38 e tutte le cose, nelle quali àbitano i figliuoli degli uomini, e le bestie del campo, e gli uccelli del cielo ha dato nelle tue mani; e sotto la tua signoria ha ordinato ogni cosa; tu dunque sei lo capo dell' oro.
39 And after you, another kingdom will rise up, inferior to you, of silver, and another third kingdom of brass, which will rule over the whole world.	39 E dopo te si leverà uno altro reame, minore del tuo,; e dopo questo un altro si leverà di bronzo, il quale signoreggerà tutta la terra.
40 And the fourth kingdom will be like iron. Just as iron shatters and conquers all things, so will it shatter and crush all these.	40 E dopo questo si leverà lo quarto reame, lo quale sarà simile al ferro; chè come il ferro spezza e doma tutte le cose, così questo reame spezzerà e domerà ogni cosa.
41 Furthermore, because you saw the feet and the toes to be part of potter’s clay and part of iron, the kingdom will be divided, but still, from the slip of iron it will take its origin, since you saw the iron mingled with the earthenware from clay.	41 Ma per che tu hai veduto, che dei piedi e dei diti parte era di creta, e parte di ferro, questo indica che lo regno sarà diviso, lo quale niente di meno averà origine (e fondamento) dal ferro, secondo che tu hai veduto il ferro misto colla creta;
42 And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, part the kingdom will be strong and part will be crushed.	42 e li diti delli piedi esser parte di ferro, parte di creta; da una parte il reame sarà fermo (e stabile), e d'altra parte sarà disfatto.
43 Yet, because you saw the iron mingled with pottery from the earth, they will indeed be combined together with the offspring of man, but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron cannot be mixed with earthenware.	43 Ma quello che tu hai veduto il ferro misto colla creta, saranno mescolati collo seme umano; ma non s'accosteranno a lui, come lo ferro non si puote mescolare colla creta.
44 But in the days of those kingdoms, the God of heaven will inspire a kingdom that will never be destroyed, and his kingdom will not be handed over to another people, and it will crush and will consume all these kingdoms, and this kingdom itself will stand in eternity.	44 E nelli dì di quelli reami susciterà Iddio del cielo uno reame, lo quale non sarà dissipato in eterno, e lo reame di quello non sarà dato ad altro popolo; e quello spezzerà e consumerà tutti questi reami, ed esso starà in eterno.
45 In accordance with what you saw, because the stone was torn away from the mountain without hands, and it crushed the earthenware, and the iron, and the brass, and the silver, and the gold, the great God has shown the king what will happen after this. And the dream is true, and its interpretation is faithful.”	45 Secondo che tu vedesti, che del monte fu abscissa una pietra sanza mani, e spezzò la creta, il ferro, il bronzo, l' ariento e l'oro; Iddio grande ha dimostrato allo re quelle cose le quali poscia debbono venire; e lo sogno è vero, e la interpretazione sua sì è fedele.
46 Then king Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face and adored Daniel, and he commanded that they should offer in sacrifice to him victims and incense.	46 Allora il re Nabucodonosor cadette nella faccia sua, e adorò Daniele, e comandò che li fusse offerto ostie e incenso in sacrificio.
47 And so the king spoke with Daniel and said, “Truly, your God is the God of gods, and Lord of kings, and also a revealer of secrets, since you could uncover this mystery.”	47 Parlò dunque lo re, e disse a Daniele: veramente lo vostro Iddio è Dio delli dei, e Signore delli re, lo quale rivela li misterii; però che tu hai potuto manifestar questo sacramento.
48 Then the king raised Daniel to a high rank and gave him many great gifts, and he appointed him as leader over all the provinces of Babylon and as chief of the magistrates over all the other wise men of Babylon.	48 Allora lo re sublimò (e fece grande) Daniele, e molti e grandi doni li diede; e ordinollo principe sopra tutte le provincie di Babilonia, e prefetto e maestro sopra tutti li savii di Babilonia.
49 However, Daniel required of the king that he appoint Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the works of the province of Babylon. But Daniel himself was at the king’s door.	49 Ma allora Daniele impetrò dal re, che gli dovesse piacere, che i suoi tre compagni Sidrac, Misac e Abdenago avessero la signoria sopra tutte le [opere della] provincia di Babilonia; e Daniele rimase (in Babilonia) nella corte del re alla porta sua.
