1 And these are the words of the book, which Baruch the son of Neraiah, the son of Mahseiah, the son of Zedekiah, the son of Hasadiah, the son Hilkiah, wrote in Babylon,	1 - E queste sono le parole del libro che Baruc, figlio di Neria, figlio di Maasia, figlio di Sedecia, figlio di Sedei, figlio di Elcia, scrisse in Babilonia,
2 in the fifth year, on the seventh day of the month, since the time when the Chaldeans captured Jerusalem and set it on fire.	2 nel quinto anno ai sette del mese, al tempo in cui i Caldei presero Gerusalemme e la incendiarono.
3 And Baruch read the words of this book to the ears of Jeconiah, the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, and to the ears of the entire people, who came to the book:	3 E Baruc lesse le parole di questo scritto in presenza di Jeconia figlio di Joachim, re di Giuda, e in presenza di tutto il popolo intervenuto alla lettura,
4 even to the ears of the powerful sons of kings, and to the ears of the elders, and to the ears of the people, from the least to the greatest of them, of all those living in Babylon, near the river Sud.	4 e in presenza dei nobili della stirpe reale e in presenza dei sacerdoti e in presenza della popolazione, dal ceto più basso fino al ceto più alto, di tutti quelli che abitavano in Babilonia presso il fiume Sodi.
5 And upon hearing it, they wept and fasted and prayed in the sight of the Lord.	5 Ascoltando piangevano e digiunavano e facevano orazione nel cospetto del Signore.
6 And they collected money in accordance with whatever each one was able to handover.	6 E fecero una colletta di denaro, secondo che la mano di ciascuno potè disporre.
7 And they sent it to Jerusalem to Jehoiakim, the son of Hilkiah, the son of Shalum the priest, and to the priests, and to all the people, who were found with him in Jerusalem.	7 E lo spedirono in Gerusalemme, al sacerdote Joachim figlio di Elcia, figlio di Salom e agli altri sacerdoti e a tutta la popolazione di quelli che con lui si trovavano in Gerusalemme,
8 At that time, he received the vessels of the temple of the Lord (which had been carried away from the temple) so as to return them to the land of Judah, on the tenth day of the month Sivan. These were the silver vessels, which Zedekiah, the son of Josiah king of Judah, had made.	8 nell'occasione che Baruc aveva ottenuto che i vasi del tempio del Signore che erano stati esportati, fossero restituiti nella terra di Giuda, nel decimo giorno di Sivan. 9 After this, Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, captured Jeconiah, and the leaders, and all the powerful, and the people of the land, and led them captive from Jerusalem to Babylon.	9 dopo che Jeconia era stato, da Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia, condotto via da Gerusalemme, coi principi e tutta la nobiltà e il popolo minuto e che tutti eran stati tradotti schiavi in Babilonia.
10 And they said, “Behold we have sent you money with which to buy holocausts and frankincense. Therefore, make manna and offer it for sin at the altar of the Lord our God.	10 E dissero: «Ecco che vi mandiamo denari, coi quali provvederete ai sacrifizi e all'incenso e farete l'oblazione e l'offerta espiatoria all'altare del Signore Dio nostro
11 And pray for the life of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, and for the life of Belshazzar his son, so that their days may be just like the days of the heaven above the earth,	11 e pregate per la vita di Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia e per la vita di Baltassar suo figliuolo, affinchè i loro giorni sulla terra siano come i giorni del cielo
12 and so that the Lord may give virtue to us, and enlighten our eyes, so that we may live under the shadow of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and under the shadow of Belshazzar his son, and so that we may serve them for many days and may find favor in their sight.	12 e affinchè il Signore dia a noi forza e illumini gli occhi nostri, e viviamo, sotto l'ombra di Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia e sotto l'ombra del suo figlio Baltassar, i molti giorni che dovremo servire, e troviamo grazia al loro cospetto.
13 And pray for us also to the Lord our God, for we have sinned against the Lord our God, and the madness of our sin has not been driven away from us even to this day.	13 Per noi in particolare, pregate il Signore Dio nostro, perchè abbiamo peccato contro di Lui e il suo sdegno non si è ritirato da noi fino al giorno d'oggi.
14 And read this book, which we have sent to you to be recited in the temple of the Lord, on solemn days and on other suitable days.	14 Leggete questo scritto che vi abbiamo mandato da recitarsi nel tempio del Signore, in un giorno di solennità e in una ricorrenza opportuna, e direte:
15 And you will say, ‘To the Lord our God is justice, but to us is confusion of our face, just as it is this day for all of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,	15 - Al Signore nostro Dio sia la giustizia, a noi la confusione della faccia, come è oggi per tutto Giuda e per gli abitanti di Gerusalemme,
16 even for our kings, and our leaders, and our priests, and our prophets, and our fathers.	16 pei nostri re e pei nostri principi, pei nostri sacerdoti e pei nostri profeti, e pei padri nostri.
17 We have sinned before the Lord our God and we have not believed, lacking confidence in him.	17 Noi abbiamo peccato nel cospetto del Signore Dio nostroe non gli abbiam creduto diffidando di lui;
18 And we have not been submissive to him, and we have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God, so as to walk in his commandments, which he has given to us.	18 e non gli siamo stati soggetti, e non abbiamo dato ascolto alla voce del Signore Dio nostro, che ci ammoniva di camminare nei suoi comandamenti che aveva dato a noi.
19 From the day that he led our fathers out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, we were unfaithful to the Lord our God, and, having been scattered, we fell away. We did not listen to his voice.	19 Dal giorno che trasse i padri nostridalla terra d'Egitto, fino ad oggi, siamo stati increduli col Signore Dio nostro, e sconsideratamente ci siamo ritirati per non ascoltare la sua voce.
20 And we joined ourselves to many evils and to the curses which the Lord established through Moses, his servant, who led our fathers out of the land of Egypt, to give us a land flowing with milk and honey, just as it is in the present day.	20 E molti mali, le maledizioni minacciate dal Signore pel suo servo Mosè, che condusse fuori i padri nostri dalla terra d'Egitto, per dare a noi una terra che sgorga latte e miele, s'attaccarono a noi, così com'è al giorno d'oggi.
21 And we have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God, according to all the words of the prophets whom he sent to us.	21 Noi non abbiamo dato ascolto alla voce del Signore Dio nostro sulla parola dei profeti che a noi mandò;
22 And we have gone astray, each one after the inclinations of his own malignant heart, serving strange gods and doing evil before the eyes of the Lord our God.	22 ce ne siamo andati, ciascuno dietro al sentimento del proprio cuore malvagio, a prestar servigio agli dèi stranieri, facendo il male nel cospetto del Signore Dio nostro.
