CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINEL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
ALEPH. I am a man watching my own poverty by the rod of his indignation.1 [Alef] Yo soy el hombre que ha soportado la miseria bajo la vara de su furor.
ALEPH. He has driven me and led me into darkness, and not into light.2 El me condujo y me hizo caminar por las tinieblas, y no por la luz.
ALEPH. Against me only, he has turned and turned again his hand, all day long.3 Sólo contra mí, una y otra vez, vuelve su mano todo el día.
BETH. My skin and my flesh, he has made old; he has crushed my bones.4 [Bet] El marchitó mi carne y mi piel, quebró todos mis huesos.
BETH. He has built all around me, and he has encircled me with gall and hardship.5 Edificó contra mí un cerco de veneno y fatiga.
BETH. He has gathered me into darkness, like those who are forever dead.6 Me confinó en las tinieblas, como a los que murieron hace mucho tiempo.
GHIMEL. He has built against me all around, so that I may not depart. He has increased the burden of my confinement.7 [Guímel] Me tiene cercado y no puedo salir, hizo pesada mi cadena.
GHIMEL. Yet even when I cry out and beg, he excludes my prayer.8 Por más que grite y pida auxilio, cierra el paso a mi plegaria.
GHIMEL. He has enclosed my ways with square stones; he has subverted my paths.9 Cercó mis caminos con piedras talladas, entorpeció mis senderos.
DALETH. He has become to me like a bear lying in ambush, like a lion in hiding.10 [Dálet] Fue para mí un oso en acecho, un león agazapado.
DALETH. He has subverted my paths, and he has broken me. He has placed me in desolation.11 Me apartó del camino y me desgarró, me dejó desolado.
DALETH. He has bent his bow, and he has positioned me like a target for his arrows.12 Apuntó con su arco e hizo de mí el blanco de su flecha.
HE. He has shot into my kidneys the daughters of his quiver.13 [He] Me clavó en los riñones las flechas de su aljaba.
HE. I have become a derision to all my people, their song throughout the day.14 Fui la irrisión de mi pueblo, el motivo constante de sus cantos burlones.
HE. He has filled me with bitterness; he has inebriated me with wormwood.15 El me sació de amargura, me abrevó con ajenjo.
VAU. And he has broken each one of my teeth; he has fed me with ashes.16 [Vau] Partió mis dientes con un guijarro, me revolcó en la ceniza.
VAU. And my soul has been driven away from peace; I have forgotten what is good.17 Ya no hay paz para mi alma, me olvidé de la felicidad.
VAU. And I said, “My end and my hope from the Lord has perished.”18 Por eso dije: «Se ha agotado mi fuerza y la esperanza que me venía del Señor».
ZAIN. Remember my poverty and my transgression, the wormwood and the gall.19 [Zain] Recordar mi opresión y mi vida errante es ajenjo y veneno.
ZAIN. I will call to mind the past, and my soul shall languish within me.20 Mi alma no hace más que recordar y se hunde dentro de mí;
ZAIN. These recollections are in my heart; therefore, I shall hope.21 Pero me pongo a pensar en algo y esto me llena de esperanza:
HETH. By the mercies of the Lord, we are not consumed. For his compassion has not passed away.22 [Jet] La misericordia del Señor no se extingue ni se agota su compasión;
HETH. I know it at first light; great is your faithfulness.23 ellas se renuevan cada mañana, ¡qué grande es tu fidelidad!
HETH. “The Lord is my portion,” said my soul. Because of this, I will wait for him.24 El Señor es mi parte, dice mi alma, por eso espero en él.
TETH. The Lord is good to those who hope in him, to the soul that seeks him.25 [Tet] El Señor es bondadoso con los que esperan en él, con aquellos que lo buscan.
TETH. It is good to stand ready in silence for the salvation of God.26 Es bueno esperar en silencio la salvación que viene del Señor.
TETH. It is good for a man, when he has carried the yoke from his youth.27 Es bueno para el hombre cargar con el yugo desde su juventud.
JOD. He shall sit solitary and silent. For he has lifted it upon himself.28 [Iod] Que permanezca solitario y silencioso, cuando el Señor se lo impone.
JOD. He shall place his mouth in the dirt, if perhaps there may be hope.29 Que ponga su boca sobre el polvo: ¡tal vez haya esperanza!
JOD. He shall give his cheek to those who strike him; he shall be saturated with reproaches.30 Que ofrezca su mejilla al que lo golpea y se sacie de oprobios.
CAPH. For the Lord will not rebuke forever.31 [Caf] Porque el Señor nunca rechaza a los hombres para siempre.
CAPH. For, if he has cast down, he will also have compassion, according to the multitude of his mercies.32 Si aflige, también se compadece, por su gran misericordia.
CAPH. For he has not humiliated from his heart, nor has he thrown aside the sons of men,33 Porque él no humilla ni aflige de corazón a los hijos de los hombres.
LAMED. as if to crush under his feet all the prisoners of the land,34 [Lámed] Cuando se aplasta bajo los pies a todos los prisioneros de un país;
LAMED. as if to turn aside the judgment of a man in the sight of the presence of the Most High,35 cuando se conculca el derecho de un hombre ante el rostro del Altísimo;
LAMED. as if to pervert a man in his judgment: the Lord does not do this.36 cuando se perjudica a alguien en un pleito, ¿acaso no lo ve el Señor ?
MEM. Who is this, who said to do what the Lord did not command?37 [Mem] ¿Quién dijo algo y eso sucedió, sin que el Señor lo ordenara?
MEM. Does not both misfortune and good proceed from the mouth of the Most High?38 ¿No salen de la boca del Altísimo los males y los bienes?
MEM. Why has a living man murmured, a man suffering for his sins?39 ¿De qué se queja el hombre mientras vive? ¡Que domine más bien su pecado!
NUN. Let us examine our ways, and seek out, and return to the Lord.40 [Nun] ¡Examinemos a fondo nuestra conducta y volvamos al Señor!
NUN. Let us lift up our hearts, with our hands, toward the Lord in the heavens.41 Levantemos en nuestras manos el corazón hacia el Dios del cielo.
NUN. We have acted sinfully, and we have provoked to wrath. About this, you are relentless.42 Hemos sido infieles y rebeldes; ¡tú no has perdonado!
SAMECH. You have covered us in your fury, and you have struck us. You have killed, and have not spared.43 [Sámec] Te has cubierto de indignación y nos has perseguido, ¡has matado sin piedad!
SAMECH. You have set a cloud opposite you, lest our prayer pass through.44 Te has cubierto con una nube para que no pase la plegaria.
SAMECH. In the midst of the peoples, you have uprooted me and cast me out.45 Nos has convertido en basura y desecho en medio de los pueblos.
PHE. All our enemies have opened their mouths over us.46 [Ain] Abren sus fauces contra nosotros todos nuestros enemigos.
PHE. Prediction has become for us a dread, and a snare, and a grief.47 Nos asaltan el terror y la fosa, la ruina y el desastre.
PHE. My eye has brought forth streams of water at the contrition of the daughter of my people.48 Ríos de lágrimas brotan de mis ojos, por el desastre de la hija de mi pueblo.
AIN. My eye has been afflicted, and it has not been quieted, because there would be no rest49 [Pe] Mis ojos lloran sin descanso, no hay un alivio,
AIN. until the Lord looked down and saw from the heavens.50 hasta que el Señor vuelva su mirada y observe desde el cielo.
AIN. My eye has exhausted my soul over every one of the daughters of my city.51 Mis ojos me hacen sufrir al ver las hijas de mi ciudad.
SADE. My enemies have chased me, and they have caught me like a bird, without reason.52 [Sade] Me han cazado como a un pájaro los que me odian sin razón.
SADE. My life has fallen into a pit, and they have placed a stone over me.53 Ahogaron mi vida en un pozo y arrojaron piedras sobre mí.
SADE. The waters have flooded over my head. I said, “I am lost.”54 Las aguas corrieron sobre mi cabeza, y yo exclamé: «¡Estoy perdido!».
COPH. I called upon your name, O Lord, from the furthest pit.55 [Qof] Entonces invoqué tu Nombre, Señor, desde lo más profundo del pozo.
COPH. You have heard my voice. Do not turn away your ear from my sobbing and my cries.56 Tú escuchaste mi voz: «¡No cierres tu oído a mi grito de auxilio!».
COPH. You drew near in the daytime, when I called upon you. You said, “Fear not.”57 Te acercaste el día que te invoqué y dijiste: «¡No temas!».
RES. You have judged, O Lord, the case of my soul. You are the Redeemer of my life.58 [Res] Tú has defendido mi causa, Señor, has rescatado mi vida.
RES. You have seen, O Lord, their iniquity against me. Judge my case.59 Has visto el daño que me hacen, ¡defiende mi derecho!
RES. You have seen all their fury, every one of their thoughts is against me.60 Has visto su sed de venganza, todos sus planes contra mí.
SIN. You have heard their reproach, O Lord, all their thoughts are against me.61 [Sin] Has escuchado sus insultos, Señor, todos sus planes contra mí.
SIN. The lips of those who rise up against me, and their meditations, are against me all day long.62 Los labios de mis agresores y sus maquinaciones están contra mí todo el día.
SIN. Watch their sitting down and their rising up: I am their psalm.63 Míralos cuando se sientan o se levantan: soy el motivo de sus cantos burlones.
THAU. You shall pay a recompense to them, O Lord, according to the works of their hands.64 [Tau] Tú les darás su merecido, Señor, conforme a la obra de sus manos.
THAU. You shall give them a heavy shield of the heart: your hardship.65 Les endurecerás el corazón, y tu maldición caerá sobre ellos.
THAU. You shall pursue them in fury, and you shall destroy them under the heavens, O Lord.66 Los perseguirás con saña y los exterminarás debajo de los cielos.
