Sirach 46

1 Joshua, the son of Nun, was valiant in warfare; he was the successor of Moses among the prophets. He was great in accord with his name,	1 Josué, filho de Nun, foi um valente na guerra. Sucedeu Moisés entre os profetas; foi ilustre, tão ilustre como o nome que trazia,
2 very great in the saving the elect of God. He fought against the insurgent enemies, so that he might obtain the inheritance for Israel.	2 muito ilustre salvador dos eleitos de Deus, para derrubar os inimigos que se levantavam, e para conquistar a herança de Israel.
3 What great glory he secured, by lifting up his hands and throwing his spears against the cities!	3 Que glória não alcançou ele em levantar as suas mãos, e em brandir a espada contra as cidades!
4 Who before him has stood so firmly? For the Lord himself led forward the enemies.	4 Quem pôde enfrentá-lo? Pois o Senhor mesmo lhe trazia os seus inimigos.
5 Was not the sun halted by his wrath, and one day made as if two?	5 Não deteve ele o sol, em sua cólera? Não se tornou um só dia tão longo como dois?
6 He called upon the Most High Power, when the enemies assailed him on every side. And the great and holy God answered him with hailstones of exceedingly great force.	6 Ele invocou o Altíssimo todo-poderoso, atacando os inimigos de todos os lados: o Deus grande e santo o atendeu com uma chuva de pedras de grande força.
7 He made a violent assault against a hostile nation, and at his descent, he destroyed his adversaries,	7 Investiu impetuosamente contra as hostes inimigas, e despedaçou-as na descida do vale,
8 so that the nations would acknowledge his power: that it is not easy to fight against God. And he followed the Almighty.	8 para que as nações conhecessem o poder de Deus, e soubessem que não é fácil combater contra Deus, ele seguiu sempre o Todo-poderoso.
9 And in the days of Moses, he accomplished a work of mercy. He and Caleb, the son of Jephuneh, stood against the enemy, and forbid the people from sin, and broke their wicked murmuring.	9 No tempo em que Moisés ainda vivia, praticou um ato de piedade com Caleb, filho de Jefoné, permanecendo firme contra o inimigo, impedindo o povo de pecar, e abafando a murmuração excitada pela malícia.
10 And these two, having been appointed, were freed from peril, from foot soldiers numbering six hundred thousand, so as to lead them into their inheritance, into a land flowing with milk and honey.	10 Dentre um número de seiscentos mil homens de pé, esses dois foram escolhidos e poupados da morte, para levar o povo à sua herança, nessa terra onde mana leite e mel.
11 And the Lord gave strength to Caleb also, and his strength remained even in his old age, so that he ascended to the high places of the land, and his offspring obtained it as an inheritance.	11 O Senhor deu força a Caleb; até a velhice permaneceu ele vigoroso, para subir a um lugar elevado na terra (prometida), que a sua descendência recebeu como herança,
12 This was so that all the sons of Israel would see that it is good to obey the holy God.	12 para que todos os israelitas reconhecessem que é bom obedecer ao Deus santo.
13 Then there were the judges, each one called by name, whose heart was not corrupted. They did not turn away from the Lord,	13 Em seguida, vieram os juízes, cada um (designado) pelo seu nome, aqueles cujos corações não se perverteram, e que não se afastaram do Senhor.
14 so that their memory might be blessed, and their bones might spring forth from their place,	14 Que a sua memória seja abençoada, e seus ossos floresçam em seus sepulcros!
15 and their name might remain forever, continuing in their sons, holy men of glory.	15 Que seu nome permaneça eternamente, e passe aos seus filhos com a glória desses santos homens!
16 Samuel, prophet of the Lord, beloved by the Lord his God, established a new government, and he anointed leaders over his people.	16 Amado pelo Senhor seu Deus, Samuel, o profeta do Senhor, instituiu um novo governo, e ungiu príncipes entre o seu povo.
17 By the law of the Lord, he judged the congregation, and the God of Jacob saw it, and so, by his fidelity, he was proven to be a prophet.	17 Julgou a assembléia segundo a lei do Senhor. E o Deus de Jacó o visitou. Por sua fidelidade ele se mostrou verdadeiramente profeta,
18 And he was known to be faithful in his words. For he saw the God of light.	18 e foi fiel em suas palavras, porque viu o Deus da luz.
19 And when fighting against the enemies, who stood against him on every side, he called upon the name of the Almighty Lord, with an offering of an inviolate lamb.	19 Invocou o Deus todo-poderoso, ofereceu-lhe um cordeiro sem mácula, quando os seus inimigos o perseguiam por todos os lados.
20 And the Lord thundered from heaven, and with a great noise, he made his voice to be heard.	20 O Senhor trovejou do céu, fazendo ouvir sua voz com grande estrondo.
21 And he crushed the leaders of the Tyrians, and all the commanders of the Philistines.	21 Destroçou os príncipes de Tiro, e todos os chefes dos filisteus.
22 And before the time of the end of his life in the world, he offered testimony in the sight of the Lord and of his Christ, that he had not taken a bribe from any flesh, not even so much as a shoe, and that no man made an accusation against him.	22 Antes de terminar a sua vida neste mundo, tomou como testemunha o Senhor e seu Cristo, de que não tinha recebido dinheiro de pessoa alguma, nem mesmo uma sandália, e não achou ninguém que o acusasse.
23 And after this, he slept. And he made known to the king and revealed to him the end of his life. And he lifted up his voice from the earth in prophecy, to abolish the impiety of the people.	23 Depois disso, adormeceu e apareceu ao rei, e lhe mostrou seu fim (próximo); levantou a sua voz do seio da terra para profetizar a destruição da impiedade do povo.
