1 Then Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and he was buried with them in the City of David. And his son, Jehoram, reigned in his place.	1 Dormì Iosafat coi padri suoi, e fue seppellito con esso loro nella città di David; e regnò Ioram suo figliuolo per lui.
2 And he had brothers, sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah. All these were sons of Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah.	2 Il quale ebbe fratelli, figliuoli di Iosafat, Azaria e Iaiel, Zacaria e Azaria e Micael e Safatia; tutti questi furono figliuoli di Iosafat re di Giuda.
3 And their father gave to them many gifts of silver, and gold, and valuables, with very fortified cities in Judah. But the kingdom he handed on to Jehoram, because he was the firstborn.	3 E diede loro il padre molti doni, ariento e oro, con le città fortissime in Giuda; ma il regno diede a Ioram, però ch' era il primogenito.
4 Therefore, Jehoram rose up over the kingdom of his father. And when he had established himself, he killed with the sword all his brothers, and certain ones from the leaders of Israel.	4 E levossi Ioram sopra il regno del padre suo; ed essendo bene fermato, uccise tutti i suoi fratelli di coltello, e alcuni de' principi di Giuda.
5 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he had begun to reign. And he reigned for eight years in Jerusalem.	5 E quando cominciò a regnare, era Ioram di XXXII anni; e VIII anni regnò in Ierusalem.
6 And he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done. For his wife was a daughter of Ahab, and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.	6 E andò per le vie dei re d' Israel, sì come avea fatto la casa di Acab; e la figliuola di Acab era sua moglie, e nel cospetto del Signore fece male.
7 But the Lord was not willing to destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had formed with him, and because he had promised that he would provide a lamp to him, and to his sons, for all time.	7 E non volle il Signore dissipare la casa di David, per lo patto il quale avea con esso lui, e però ch' egli avea promesso che gli darebbe lucerna, e a' suoi figliuoli, per ogni tempo.
8 In those days, Edom rebelled, so as not to be subject to Judah, and they appointed for themselves a king.	8 E in quel tempo ribelloe Edom, non volendo essere sotto Giuda, e fece il re a sè.
9 And when Jehoram had gone across with his leaders, and all the horsemen who were with him, he arose in the night, and struck the Edomites (who had surrounded him), and all the commanders of his horsemen.	9 E passando Ioram coi principi suoi, e con tutta la cavalleria la quale era con esso lui, levossi la notte, e percosse Edom, il quale avea circondato, e tutti i principi della sua cavalleria.
10 Even so, Edom rebelled, so as not to be under the authority of Judah, even to this day. Also at that time, Libnah withdrew, so as not to be under his hand. For he had forsaken the Lord, the God of his fathers.	10 Nondimeno ribelloe Edom, per non essere alla signoria di Giuda, insino al dì presente; e in quello tempo anco Lobna si partìo, per non essere sotto le sue mani; però ch' egli avea lasciato il Signore Dio de' padri suoi.
11 Moreover, he also constructed high places in the cities of Judah. And he caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to fornicate, and Judah to prevaricate.	11 E sopra questo an ch' egli edificò luoghi alti nelle città di Giuda; e fece fornicare gli abitatori di Ierusalem, e fece prevaricare Giuda.
12 Then letters were conveyed to him from the prophet Elijah, in which it was written: “Thus says the Lord, the God of David, your father: Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat, your father, nor in the ways of Asa, the king of Judah,	12 E furongli portate lettere da Elia profeta, nelle quali era scritto: questo dice il Signore Iddio del padre tuo David: però che tu non se' andato per le vie di Iosafat tuo padre, e per le vie di Asa re di Gruda,
13 but instead you have advanced along the paths of the kings of Israel, and you have caused Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to fornicate, imitating the fornication of the house of Ahab, and moreover, you have killed your brothers, the house of your father, who are better than you:	13 ma se' andato per le vie de' re d'Israel, e hai fatto fornicare Giuda e gli abitatori di Ierusalem, seguitando la fornicazione della casa di Acab; e sopra questo hai morto i tuoi fratelli, casa del tuo padre, migliori di te;
14 behold, the Lord will strike you with a great plague, with all your people, and your sons and wives, and all your substance.	14 ecco che il Signore percuoterà te, con esso il popolo tuo, e coi figliuoli e con le mogli e con tutta la tua sostanza, di grande piaga.
15 And you shall be sickened by a very grievous disease of your bowels, until your inner organs depart, little by little, each day.”	15 E tu infermerai di pessimo male di corpo, tanto che tutte le interiora, che tu hai, ti escano ogni di a poco a poco.
16 Therefore, the Lord stirred up, against Jehoram, the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, who are along the borders of the Ethiopians.	16 Onde suscitò il Signore contro a Ioram lo spirito de' Filistei, e di quelli di Arabia li quali sono vicini a quelli di Etiopia.
17 And they ascended into the land of Judah. And they laid waste to it. And they despoiled all the substance that was found in the house of the king, including even his sons and wives. Neither did there remain for him any son, except Jehoahaz, who was the youngest born.	17 E andarono alla terra di Giuda, e guastarola, e portaronsi via tutta la (loro) sostanza, la quale fu trovata nella casa del re, e anche i figliuoli e le mogli; e non gli rimase se non Ioacaz, suo figliuolo, il quale era il minore per nazione.
18 And in addition to all these things, the Lord struck him with an incurable disease of the bowels.	18 E sopra tutto questo il Signore percosse lui di male di ventre incurabile.
19 And as day followed after day, and the space of time turned, the course of two years was completed. And after having been wasted by a long consumption, so much so that even his inner organs were discharged, the disease ended along with his life. And so he died of a very grievous illness. And the people did not make a funeral for him, according to the custom of burning, as they had done for his ancestors.	19 E passando dì dopo dì, e tempo dopo spazio di tempo, (si volgesse e) fornissi il cerchio di due anni; e così consumato d'infermità, (in tal modo) che mandò fuori tutte le sue interiora, insieme fu privato della infermità e della vita. E morì di pessima infermità, e non gli fece il popolo secondo l'usanza dell' ardere la sepoltura, sì come avea fatto a' suoi maggiori.
20 He was thirty-two years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for eight years in Jerusalem. And he did not walk uprightly. And they buried him in the City of David, yet truly, not in the sepulcher of the kings.	20 E quando incominciò a regnare, era di XXXII anni; e otto anni regnò in Ierusalem. E non andò dirittamente; e seppellironlo nella città di David, ma non nella sepoltura de' re.
