1 The Philistines mustered al their forces at Aphek while the Israelites pitched camp near the spring inJezreel.	1 Filistei dunque avevano radunato tutte le loro schiere ad Afek e Israele era accampato alla fonte che è presso Jizreel.
2 The Philistine commanders marched past with their hundreds and their thousands, and David and hismen brought up the rear with Achish.	2 I principi dei Filistei sfilavano in formazione di cento e di mille, David e i suoi uomini sfilavano, ultimi, con Achish.
3 The Philistine chiefs asked, 'What are these Hebrews doing?' Achish replied to them, 'Why, this isDavid the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me for the last year or two. I have had no fault to findwith him from the day he gave himself up to me until the present time.'	3 Dissero i capi dei Filistei: «Che cosa fanno questi Ebrei?» Achish rispose ai capi dei Filistei: «Non è costui David servitore di Saul, re di Israele, il quale si: trova presso di me da un'anno o due? Non ho trovato nulla in lui dal giorno della: sua diserzione fino a oggi».
4 But the Philistine chiefs were angry with him. 'Send the man back,' they said, 'make him go back to theplace which you assigned to him. He cannot go into battle with us, in case he turns on us once battle is joined.Would there be a better way for the man to regain his master's favour than with the heads of these men here?	4 Si adirarono contro di lui i capi dei Filistei e gli dissero: «Fa’ tornate indietro quest’uomo! Ritorni al posto che tu gli hai assegnato e non scenda con noi in battaglia, affinché non diventi nostro avversario durante il combattimento! Infatti come rientrerà costui nelle grazie del suo signore? Non forse per mezzo delle teste di questi uomini?
5 Is not this the David of whom they sang as they danced: Saul has kil ed his thousands, and David histens of thousands'?	5 Non è costui David per cui nelle danze si intonava il ritornello: “Saul batté i suoi mille, ma David i suoi diecimila!”?»
6 So Achish called David and said, 'As Yahweh lives, you are loyal, and I am quite content with al yourdoings in our campaigning together, since I have found no fault with you from the day you came to me until thepresent time. But you are not acceptable to the chiefs.	6 Achish dovette chiamare David e dirgli: «Per la vita di Jahvè! tu sei leale e sarebbe un bene ai miei occhi che tu uscissi ed entrassi con me nell’accampamento, poiché non ho trovato in te nessun male da quando sei venuto da me fino a oggi. Ma agli occhi dei principi tu non sei gradito;
7 So go home, in peace, rather than antagonise them.'	7 ora dunque torna e va’ in pace, così non farai male agli occhi dei principi dei Filistei».
8 'But what have I done,' David asked Achish, 'what fault have you had to find with your servant from theday I entered your service to the present time, for me not to be al owed to go and fight the enemies of my lordthe king?'	8 David disse ad Achish: «Che cosa ho fatto e che cosa hai trovato nel tuo servitore da quando sono venuto alla tua presenza fino a oggi, perché non vada a combattere contro i nemici del mio signore re?»
9 In reply, Achish said to David, 'In my opinion, it is true, you are as good as an angel of God; but thePhilistine chiefs have said, "He must not go into battle with us."	9 Achish rispose a David: «Lo sai che tu sei gradito ai miei occhi; ma purtroppo i capi dei Filistei hanno detto: “Non deve venire con noi in battaglia”.
10 So get up early tomorrow morning, with your master's servants who came with you, and go to theplace which I assigned to you. Do not harbour resentment, since personal y I have no fault to find with you. Getup early tomorrow morning and, as soon as it is light, be off.'	10 Dunque, levati presto domani, tu e i servitori del tuo signore che sono venuti con te: andatevene al posto che vi ho assegnato. Non conservate nel cuore questa cosa da nulla, perché tu sei gradito a me. Levatevi presto domani, alla prima luce, e partite».
11 So David and his men got up early to leave at dawn and go back to Philistine territory. And thePhilistines marched on Jezreel.	11 David, con i suoi uomini, si levò presto per partire all’alba e tornare al paese dei Filistei. I Filistei salirono alla volta di Jizreel.
