1 Now after Joshua's death, the Israelites consulted Yahweh, asking, 'Which of us is to march on theCanaanites first, to make war on them?'	1 По смерти Иисуса вопрошали сыны Израилевы Господа, говоря: кто из нас прежде пойдет на Хананеев--воевать с ними?
2 And Yahweh replied, 'Judah is to march on them first; I am delivering the country into his hands.'	2 И сказал Господь: Иуда пойдет; вот, Я предаю землю в руки его.
3 Judah then said to his brother Simeon, 'March with me into the territory al otted to me; we shall makewar on the Canaanites, and then I in my turn shal march into your territory with you.' And Simeon marched withhim.	3 Иуда же сказал Симеону, брату своему: войди со мною в жребий мой, и будем воевать с Хананеями; и я войду с тобою в твой жребий. И пошел с ним Симеон.
4 So Judah marched on them, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and Perizzites into their hands, andthey defeated them at Bezek-ten thousand of them!	4 И пошел Иуда, и предал Господь Хананеев и Ферезеев в руки их, и побили они из них в Везеке десять тысяч человек.
5 At Bezek they came upon Adoni-Bezek; they joined battle with him and defeated the Canaanites andPerizzites.	5 В Везеке встретились они с Адони-Везеком, сразились с ним и разбили Хананеев и Ферезеев.
6 Adoni-Bezek took to flight, but they chased and captured him and cut off his thumbs and big toes.	6 Адони-Везек побежал, но они погнались за ним и поймали его и отсекли большие пальцы на руках его и на ногах его.
7 Adoni-Bezek said, 'Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to pick up the crumbsunder my table. As I did, God does to me.' He was taken to Jerusalem, and there he died.	7 Тогда сказал Адони-Везек: семьдесят царей с отсеченными на руках и на ногах их большими пальцами собирали [крохи] под столом моим; как делал я, так и мне воздал Бог. И привели его в Иерусалим, и он умер там.
8 (The sons of Judah attacked Jerusalem and took it: they put its people to the sword and set fire to thecity.)	8 И воевали сыны Иудины против Иерусалима и взяли его, и поразили его мечом и город предали огню.
9 After this the sons of Judah went down to make war on the Canaanites who were living in the highlands,the Negeb and the lowlands.	9 Потом пошли сыны Иудины воевать с Хананеями, которые жили на горах и на полуденной земле и на низменных местах.
10 Judah next marched on the Canaanites living in Hebron -- the name of Hebron in olden days wasKiriath-Arba -- and beat Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai.	10 И пошел Иуда на Хананеев, которые жили в Хевроне (имя же Хеврону [было] прежде Кириаф-Арбы), и поразили Шешая, Ахимана и Фалмая.
11 From there, he marched on the inhabitants of Debir -- the name of Debir in olden days was Kiriath-Sepher.	11 Оттуда пошел он против жителей Давира; имя Давиру [было] прежде Кириаф-Сефер.
12 Caleb said, 'To the man who conquers and captures Kiriath-Sepher, I shal give my daughter Achsahas wife.'	12 И сказал Халев: кто поразит Кириаф-Сефер и возьмет его, тому отдам Ахсу, дочь мою, в жену.
13 The man who captured it was Othniel son of Kenaz, younger brother of Caleb, who gave him hisdaughter Achsah as wife.	13 И взял его Гофониил, сын Кеназа, младшего брата Халевова, и [Халев] отдал в жену ему Ахсу, дочь свою.
14 When she arrived, he urged her to ask her father for arable land, but when she alighted from thedonkey and Caleb asked her, 'What is the matter?'	14 Когда надлежало ей идти, [Гофониил] научил ее просить у отца ее поле, и она сошла с осла. Халев сказал ей: что тебе?
15 she said to him, 'Grant me a blessing! As the land you have given me is the Negeb, give me springs ofwater, too!' So Caleb gave her what she wanted: the upper springs and the lower springs.	15 [Ахса] сказала ему: дай мне благословение; ты дал мне землю полуденную, дай мне и источники воды. И дал ей [Халев] источники верхние и источники нижние.
16 The sons of Hobab the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, marched up with the sons of Judah from theCity of Palm Trees into the desert of Judah lying in the Negeb of Arad, where they went and settled among thepeople.	16 И сыны [Иофора] Кенеянина, тестя Моисеева, пошли из города Пальм с сынами Иудиными в пустыню Иудину, которая на юг от Арада, и пришли и поселились среди народа.
17 Judah then set out with his brother Simeon. They beat the Canaanites who lived in Zephath anddelivered it over to the curse of destruction; hence the town was given the name of Hormah.	17 И пошел Иуда с Симеоном, братом своим, и поразили Хананеев, живших в Цефафе, и предали его заклятию, и [оттого] называется город сей Хорма.
18 Judah then captured Gaza and its territory, Ashkelon and its territory, Ekron and its territory.AndYahweh was with Judah, who made himself master of the highlands;	18 Иуда взял также Газу с пределами ее, Аскалон с пределами его, и Екрон с пределами его.
19 he could not, however, dispossess the inhabitants of the plain, since they had iron chariots.	19 Господь был с Иудою, и он овладел горою; но жителей долины не мог прогнать, потому что у них были железные колесницы.
20 As Moses had directed, Hebron was given to Caleb, and he drove the three sons of Anak out of it.	20 И отдали Халеву Хеврон, как говорил Моисей, и изгнал [он] оттуда трех сынов Енаковых.
21 As regards the Jebusites living in Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin did not dispossess them, and theJebusites have been living in Jerusalem with the sons of Benjamin ever since.	21 Но Иевусеев, которые жили в Иерусалиме, не изгнали сыны Вениаминовы, и живут Иевусеи с сынами Вениамина в Иерусалиме до сего дня.
22 Similarly, the House of Joseph marched on Bethel, and Yahweh was with them.	22 И сыны Иосифа пошли также на Вефиль, и Господь был с ними.
23 The House of Joseph made a reconnaissance of Bethel. (In olden days, the name of the town wasLuz.)	23 И остановились и высматривали сыны Иосифовы Вефиль (имя же городу [было] прежде Луз).
24 The scouts saw a man coming out of the town and said to him, 'Show us how to get into the town andwe shal show you faithful love.'	24 И увидели стражи человека, идущего из города, и сказали ему: покажи нам вход в город, и сделаем с тобою милость.
25 And when he had shown them a way into the town, they put the town to the sword but let the man andhis whole clan go.	25 Он показал им вход в город, и поразили они город мечом, а человека сего и все родство его отпустили.
26 The man went off to the country of the Hittites and built a town which he called Luz; and that has been its name ever since.	26 Человек сей пошел в землю Хеттеев, и построил город и нарек имя ему Луз. Это имя его до сего дня.
27 Manasseh did not dispossess Beth-Shean and its dependencies, nor Taanach and its dependencies,nor the inhabitants of Dor and its dependencies, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its dependencies, nor theinhabitants of Megiddo and its dependencies; in those parts the Canaanites held their ground.	27 И Манассия не выгнал [жителей] Бефсана и зависящих от него городов, Фаанаха и зависящих от него городов, жителей Дора и зависящих от него городов, жителей Ивлеама и зависящих от него городов, жителей Мегиддона и зависящих от него городов; и остались Хананеи жить в земле сей.
28 But when the Israelites became stronger, they subjected the Canaanites to forced labour, althoughthey did not dispossess them.	28 Когда Израиль пришел в силу, тогда сделал он Хананеев данниками, но изгнать не изгнал их.
29 Nor did Ephraim dispossess the Canaanites living in Gezer; thus, the Canaanites went on living inGezer with him.	29 И Ефрем не изгнал Хананеев, живущих в Газере; и жили Хананеи среди их в Газере.
30 Zebulun did not dispossess the inhabitants of Kitron or of Nahalol. The Canaanites lived on withZebulun but were subjected to forced labour.	30 И Завулон не изгнал жителей Китрона и жителей Наглола, и жили Хананеи среди их и платили им дань.
31 Asher did not dispossess the inhabitants of Acco, nor those of Sidon, of Mahalab, of Achzib, of Helbah,of Aphek or of Rehob.	31 И Асир не изгнал жителей Акко и жителей Сидона и Ахлава, Ахзива, Хелвы, Афека и Рехова.
32 So the Asherites lived among the Canaanite inhabitants of the country, not having dispossessed them.	32 И жил Асир среди Хананеев, жителей земли той, ибо не изгнал их.
33 Naphtali did not dispossess the inhabitants of Beth-Shemesh or of Beth-Anath; they settled among theCanaanite inhabitants of the country, but the inhabitants of Beth-Shemesh and of Beth-Anath were subjected toforced labour for them.	33 И Неффалим не изгнал жителей Вефсамиса и жителей Бефанафа и жил среди Хананеев, жителей земли той; жители же Вефсамиса и Бефанафа были его данниками.
34 The Amorites drove the Danites back into the highlands and would not let them come down into theplain.	34 И стеснили Аморреи сынов Дановых в горах, ибо не давали им сходить на долину.
35 The Amorites held their ground at Har -- Heres and Shaalbim, but when the hand of the House ofJoseph grew heavier, they were subjected to forced labour. (	35 И остались Аморреи жить на горе Херес, в Аиалоне и Шаалвиме; но рука сынов Иосифовых одолела [Аморреев], и сделались они данниками им.
36 The territory of the Edomites begins at the Ascent of Scorpions, runs to the Rock and continues onupwards.)	36 Пределы Аморреев от возвышенности Акравим и от Селы простирались и далее.
