Deuteronomy 29

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Moses called all Israel together and said to them: 'You have seen everything that Yahweh did beforeyour eyes in Egypt, to Pharaoh, to his servants and to his whole country-	1 Queste sono le parole dell'alleanza che il Signore ordinò a Mosè di fare coi figli d'Israele nella terra di Moab, oltre l'alleanza che egli fece con essi in Oreb.
2 the great ordeals which you yourselves witnessed, those signs and the great wonders.	2 Mosè chiamò tutto Israele e disse loro: « Voi vedeste tutto quello che il Signore fece, sotto gli occhi vostri, nella terra d'Egitto, a Faraone e a tutti i suoi servi, e a tutto il suo regno;
3 But until today Yahweh has not given you a heart to understand, eyes to see, or ears to hear.	3 gli occhi tuoi videro le grandi prove, quei segni e quei grandi prodigi;
4 'I have been leading you for forty years in the desert, yet the clothes which you have been wearinghave not worn out, nor have the sandals on your feet.	4 ma fino ad oggi il Signore non ti ha dato un cuore che intenda, occhi che vedano e orecchi che possano udire.
5 You have had no bread to eat, you have had no wine or fermented liquor to drink, so that you wouldlearn that I, Yahweh, am your God.	5 Egli vi ha condotti quarantanni pel deserto: le vostre vesti non si logorarono; i calzari dei vostri piedi non si consumarono invecchiando:
6 'When you reached this place, Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan came out to do battleagainst us; we defeated them.	6 non mangiaste pane, nè beveste vino o sicera, affinchè riconosceste che io sono il Signore Dio vostro.
7 We conquered their country and gave it as heritage to Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh.	7 E giungeste a questo luogo, ove Sehon re di Esebon ed Og re di Basan mossero contro di noi armati. Ma noi li abbiamo sconfitti,
8 'Keep the words of this covenant, put them into practice, and you wil thrive in everything you do.	8 abbiamo preso il loro paese che abbiamo dato in possesso a Ruben, a Gad e a mezza tribù di Manasse.
9 'Al of you are standing here today in the presence of Yahweh your God: your tribal leaders, yourelders, your scribes, al the men of Israel,	9 Osservate adunque le parole di quest'alleanza e mettetele in pratica per riuscire in tutto quello che fate.
10 with your children and your wives (and the foreigner too who is in your camp, be he your wood-cutteror your water-carrier),	10 Oggi voi tutti state dinanzi al Signore Dio vostro: i vostri principi, le vostre tribù, gli anziani, i dottori, tutto il popolo d'Israele,
11 and you are about to pass into the covenant of Yahweh your God, sworn with imprecation, which hehas made with you today,	11 i vostri figli e le vostre mogli, il forestiero che dimora con voi nel campo, eccetto quelli che tagliano le legna e quelli che portan l'acqua;
12 and by which, today, he makes you a nation for himself and he himself becomes a God to you, as hehas promised you, and as he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.	12 state per entrar nell'alleanza del Signore Dio tuo, nel giuramento che oggi il Signore Dio tuo fa con te,
13 Not only on your behalf am I today making this covenant and pronouncing this solemn curse,	13 per eleggerti a suo popolo, ed essere tuo Dio come egli ha detto, e giurò ai tuoi padri Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe.
14 not only on behalf of those standing here with us in the presence of Yahweh our God today, but alsoon behalf of those not here with us today.	14 E non per voi soli faccio questa alleanza e confermo questi giuramenti,
15 'Yes, you know the people with whom we used to live in Egypt, and those through whose countrieswe have travel ed -- the nations through whom we have passed.	15 ma è con tutti quelli che sono presenti e per tutti quelli che sono assenti.
16 You have seen their abominations and their idols made of wood and stone, silver and gold, whichwere there.	16 Voi sapete come abbiamo abitato nel paese d'Egitto e come siam passati per mezzo alle nazioni, e nel passare
17 'Let there be no man or woman of you, no clan or tribe, whose heart turns away from Yahweh yourGod today, to go and serve the gods of these nations. Among you let there be no root which bears poison orwormwood.	17 avete veduto le abbominazioni, le sozzure: i loro idoli, il legno, la pietra, l'oro, l'argento da esse adorati.
18 If, after hearing this imprecation, anyone, blessing himself, should say in his heart, "I shall do wellenough if I fol ow the dictates of my heart; much water drives away thirst,"	18 Non vi sia tra voi Uomo o donna, famiglia o tribù che oggi abbia il cuore alieno dal Signore Dio nostro, per andare a servire gli dèi di quelle nazioni: non vi sia tra voi radice che produca fiele e assenzio.
19 Yahweh wil not pardon him. The wrath and jealousy of Yahweh wil blaze against such a person;every curse written in this book wil fal on him, and Yahweh will blot his name out under heaven.	19 Non vi sia chi, udite le parole di questo giuramento, si lusinghi in cuor suo e dica: Avrò pace anche camminando secondo le passioni del mio cuore; chè l'ubriaco travolgerebbe chi ha sete,
20 Yahweh wil single him out of al the tribes of Israel for misfortune, in accordance with al the cursesof the covenant written in the book of this Law.	20 e il Signore invece di perdonare farebbe vieppiù divampare il suo sdegno e il suo zelo contro tal uomo, e piombare su di lui tutte le maledizioni scritte in questo volume, lo disperderebbe di sotto il cielo;
21 'The future generation, that of your children coming after you, and the foreigner arriving from somefar-away land, on seeing the plagues and diseases inflicted on this country by Yahweh, wil exclaim,	21 e lo farebbe sparire per sempre da tutte le tribù d'Israele, secondo le maledizioni contenute nel libro della legge e dell'alleanza.
22 "Sulphur! Salt!-The whole country is burning! No one wil sow, nothing grow, no vegetation springever again! Devastation like that of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboi m, devastated by Yahweh in hisfurious wrath!"	22 E dirà la generazione che succederà, i figli che poi nasceranno, i forestieri che verran da lontano, nel vedere le piaghe di questa terra, i mali che le ha inflitti il Signore,
23 And al the nations wil exclaim, "Why has Yahweh treated this country like this? Why this great blazeof anger?"	23 bruciandola con zolfo, ardore e sale, in modo che non possa esser pili seminata, nè produrre più nulla di verde, come le rovine di Sodoma, di Gomorra, di Adama, di Seboim, che il Signore subissò nel furore dell'ira sua,
24 'And people wil say, "Because they deserted the covenant of Yahweh, God of their ancestors, thecovenant which he made with them when he brought them out of Egypt;	24 diranno tutte le genti: Perchè mai il Signore ha trattato così questa terra? Che furore immenso d'ira è mai questo?
25 because they went and served other gods and worshipped them, gods hitherto unknown to them,gods that were no part of their heritage from him:	25 E sarà loro risposto: Perchè hanno abbandonato il patto che il Signore fece coi loro padri, quando li trasse dall'Egitto;
26 this is why Yahweh's anger has blazed against this country, afflicting it with al the curses written inthis book.	26 perchè servirono a dèi stranieri e adoraron dèi che essi non conoscevano, ed ai quali non erano stati soggetti,
27 In anger, in fury, in fierce wrath, Yahweh has torn them from their own country and flung them intoanother country, where they are today."	27 per questo il furore del Signore ha divampato contro questa terra, sino a mandar sopra di lei tutte le maledizioni scritte in questo libro;
28 Things hidden belong to Yahweh our God, but things revealed are ours and our children's for ever,so that we can put al the words of this Law into practice.'	28 nell'ira, nel furore, nella più grande indignazione li ha cacciati dalla loro terra e li ha gettati in una terra straniera come oggi si vede.
	29 Le cose occulte son del Signore Dio nostro; le manifeste devon servire per sempre a noi e ai nostri figli, affinchè mettiamo in pratica tutte le parole di questa legge.
