1 on whom I rely to give me support and to reinforce me.	1 Eu (Gabriel), no primeiro ano de Dario Medo, estava junto dele para o sustentar e fortificar.
2 And now I shal tell you the truth about these things. 'Three more kings are going to rise in Persia; afourth wil come and be richer than al the others, and when, thanks to his wealth, he has grown powerful, he wilmake war on al the kingdoms of Greece.	2 Agora vou anunciar-te a verdade. Eis que haverá ainda três reis na Pérsia; o quarto se elevará pela grandeza das suas riquezas acima de todos, e, quando se tiver tornado poderoso com as suas riquezas, excitará todos (os povos) contra o reino da Grécia.
3 A mighty king wil rise and govern a vast empire and do whatever he pleases.	3 Levantar-se-á, porém, um rei forte, que dominará um grande império e que fará o que lhe aprouver.
4 But once he has come to power, his empire wil be broken up and parcelled out to the four winds ofheaven, though not to his descendants: it wil not be ruled as he ruled it, for his sovereignty will be uprooted andwil pass to others than his own descendants.	4 Quando estiver elevado, o seu reino será destruído e dividido pelos quatro ventos do céu, mas não entre os seus descendentes, nem com o mesmo poder com que ele dominou, porque o seu reino será dilacerado e passará a estranhos à sua descendência.
5 'The king of the south wil grow powerful, but one of his princes wil grow more powerful stil , with anempire greater than his own.	5 O rei do Meio-dia se fortificará, mas um dos seus príncipes será mais poderoso do que ele, e o seu império maior.
6 Some years later, these will conclude a treaty and, to ratify the agreement, the daughter of the king ofthe south wil go to the king of the north. Her arm will not, however, retain its strength, nor his posterity endure:she wil be handed over, she, her escorts and her child, and he who has had authority over her. In due time	6 Alguns anos depois, farão aliança um com o outro, e a filha do rei do Meio-dia irá ter com o rei do Aquilão para estabelecer um acordo. Ela, porém, não conservará o apoio de um braço (ou de seu pai) nem do seu próprio braço (ou de seu marido). Será entregue (à morte) com os que a conduziram, o que a criou e o que a tinha sustentado durante algum tempo,
7 a sprig from her roots wil rise in his place, wil march on the defences, force the stronghold of the kingof the north, and succeed in overcoming them.	7 Das suas raízes sairá um rebento, a ocupar o seu lugar. Virá contra o seu exército, entrará nos fortes do rei do Aquilão, atacá-los-á e tornar-se-á senhor deles.
8 He wil even carry off al their gods, their statues, their precious gold and silver vessels as booty toEgypt. For some years he wil leave the king of the north in peace,	8 Além disso, levará cativos para o Egipto os seus deuses, as suas estátuas e os seus vasos preciosos de prata e ouro. Quando, durante alguns anos, deixar de atacar o rei do Aquilão,
9 but the latter will invade the kingdom of the king of the south, then retire to his own country.	9 este entrará no reino do Meio-dia, mas voltará depois para a sua terra,
10 His sons wil next be on the march, mustering a host of powerful forces; and he wil advance, deploy,break through and march on the southern stronghold once again.	10 Seus filhos se levantarão e reunirão grande exército que marchará á maneira de inundação; voltará e avançará até à sua fortaleza.
11 The king of the south wil fly into a rage and set out to give battle to the king of the north, who wilhave an immense army on his side, but this army wil be defeated by him.	11 O rei do Meio-dia, enfurecer-se-á, sairá e pelejará contra o rei do Aquilão; preparará um exército imenso, e lhe será entregue entre as mãos uma grande multidão de inimigos.
12 The army wil be annihilated; he wil be triumphant; he wil overthrow tens of thousands; yet he wilhave no enduring strength.	12 Aniquilado este exército, o seu coração se elevará; matará muitos milhares, mas não ganhará força.
13 The king of the north wil come back, having recruited an even larger army than before, and final y,after some years, he wil advance a second time with a great army and plentiful supplies.	13 O rei do Aquilão tornará a vir, juntará uma multidão de tropas maior do que antes, e, depois de certo tempo, avançará com um numeroso exército e grandes forças,
14 At that time, many wil take up arms against the king of the south, and the more violent of your ownpeople wil rebel in the hope of realising the vision; but they will fail.	14 Naqueles tempos se levantarão muitos contra o rei do Meio-dia: homens violentos do teu povo se elevarão também para cumprirem a visão mas hão-de sucumbir.
15 The king of the north wil then come and throw up siege-works to capture a strongly fortified city. The forces of the south wil not stand their ground; the pick of the people will not be strong enough to resist.	15 Virá o rei do Aquilão, levantará plataformas e tomará uma cidade fortificadíssima; os braços _(ou as forças do rei)- do Meio-dia não poderão suster o seu esforço; nem os mais valentes dentre eles conseguirão resistir; achar-se-ão sem forças.
16 The invader wil do as he pleases, no one wil be able to resist him: he will take his stand in the Landof Splendour, destruction in his hands.	16 Aquele (Antíoco III) que vier sobre ele (Ptolomeu IV ), fará o que bem lhe aprouver; não haverá quem lhe possa resistir; ele entrará na terra esplêndida (da Judeia) e destruirá tudo o que cair sob a sua mão.
17 He wil set about conquering his entire kingdom, but wil then make a treaty with him and, tooverthrow the kingdom, give him a woman's hand; but this wil not last or be to his advantage.	17 Formará o desígnio de se apoderar de todo o reino do Meio-dia; fará um acordo com o seu rei e dar-lhe-á em casamento sua filha (Cleópatra), a fim de o perder; mas não lhe sairá a coisa conforme o seu intento, esse reino não será dele.
18 He wil next turn to the coasts and islands and conquer many of them, but a magistrate wil put a stopto his outrages in such a way that he wil be unable to repay outrage for outrage.	18 Depois dirigir-se-á contra as ilhas e tomará muitas delas; porém um chefe deterá a sua soberba, e far-lhe-á pagar o seu insulto.
19 'He wil then turn on the strongholds of his own country, but wil stumble, fall, and never be seenagain.	19 Então voltará para os fortes do seu país, mas tropeçará, cairá, e não será mais achado.
20 In his place there wil rise a man who wil send an extortioner to despoil the royal splendour; in a fewdays he wil be shattered, though neither publicly nor in battle.	20 Tomará o seu lugar um outro, que enviará um exactor para esmagar a glória do reino, mas perecerá em poucos dias; porém isto não acontecerá nem pela cólera nem pela guerra.
21 'In his place wil rise a wretch: royal honours wil not be given to him, but rather he wil insinuatehimself into them at his pleasure and wil gain possession of the kingdom by intrigue.	21 Ocupará o seu lugar um homem desprezível, mas não lhe será dada honra de rei; virá subitamente e apoderar-se-á do reino com enganos.
22 Armies will be utterly routed and crushed by him, the Prince of the covenant too.	22 Os braços do combatente serão vencidos diante dele e quebrados, e também o chefe da aliança.
23 Through his alliances he wil act treacherously and, despite the smal ness of his fol owing, grow everstronger.	23 Apesar do acordo feito, usará com ele de engano, subirá (ao Egipto) e vencê-lo-á com pouca gente.
24 At his pleasure, he wil invade rich provinces, acting as his fathers or his fathers' fathers never acted,distributing among them plunder, spoil and wealth, plotting his stratagems against the fortresses -- for a time.	24 Entrará inesperadamente nas mais ricas regiões do país e fará o que nunca fizeram seus pais, nem os pais de seus pais; repartirá pelos seus os despojos, a presa e as riquezas; formará projectos contra as mais fortes cidades, mas isto até certo tempo (determinado por Deus).
25 'He wil summon up his might and courage against the king of the south with a great army. The kingof the south wil march to war with a huge and powerful army but wil not succeed, since he will be outwitted bytrickery.	25 Excitará o seu poder e o seu coração contra o rei do Meio-dia com um grande exército; o rei do Meio-dia animar-se-á a sair á batalha com muitas e fortes tropas, mas elas não perseverão firmes, porque maquinarão desígnios contra ele.
26 Those who shared his food wil ruin him; his army wil be swept away, many wil fall in the slaughter.	26 Aqueles mesmos que comiam o pão com ele, o arruinarão; o seu exército será oprimido, e um grande número dos seus cairão mortos.
27 'The two kings, seated at one table, hearts bent on evil, wil tell their lies; but they will not have theirway, for the appointed time is stil to come.	27 Os dois reis somente pensarão em fazer o mal um ao outro, e, sentados à mesma mesa, dirão palavras de mentira, mas nenhum conseguirá os seus intentos, porque o prazo (marcado por Deus) é para outro tempo.
28 Then the wretch wil return greatly enriched to his own country, his heart set against the holycovenant; he wil take action and then return to his own country.	28 Voltará para o seu pais com muitas riquezas; o seu coração será hostil à santa aliança (do Senhor), fará (muitos males), e, depois, voltará para o seu pais.
29 In due time, he will make his way southwards again, but this time the outcome wil not be as before.	29 No tempo determinado, tornará a vir para o Meio-dia, mas esta última expedição não será semelhante à primeira,
30 The ships of the Kittim wil oppose him, and he wil be worsted. He wil retire and take furious actionagainst the holy covenant and, as before, wil favour those who forsake that holy covenant.	30 Os navios de Kittim virão contra ele, que ficará desanimado; voltará e conceberá uma grande indignação contra a aliança santa, empreenderá muitas coisas contra ela. fazendo acordo com os que a tinham abandonado.
31 'Forces of his wil come and profane the Citadel-Sanctuary; they will abolish the perpetual sacrificeand instal the appal ing abomination there.	31 Virão tropas, às suas ordens, profanar o santuário, a fortaleza, farão cessar o sacrifício perpétuo e porão no templo a abominação da desolação.
32 Those who break the covenant he wil seduce by his blandishments, but the people who know theirGod will stand firm and take action.	32 Perverterá os violadores da aliança, mas o povo, que conhece o seu Deus, perseverará constante e procederá (segundo a lei).
33 Those of the people who are wise leaders wil instruct many; for some days, however, they wilstumble from sword and flame, captivity and pil age.	33 Os que forem doutos entre o povo, ensinarão a muitos, mas cairão vítimas da espada, da chama, do cativeiro e da pilhagem, durante um certo tempo.
34 And thus stumbling, little help wil they receive, though many will be scheming in their support.	34 Quando caírem arruinados, serão socorridos por um fraco auxílio, e muitos se juntarão a eles fingidamente.
35 Of the wise leaders some wil stumble, and so a number of them wil be purged, purified and madeclean -- until the time of the End, for the appointed time is stil to come.	35 Dos sábios cairão alguns para que sejam acrisolados, purificados e branqueados, até ao tempo final, porque o tempo marcado ainda está para vir.
36 'The king wil do as he pleases, growing more and more arrogant, considering himself greater thanal the gods; he will utter incredible blasphemies against the God of gods, and he wil thrive until the wrathreaches bursting point; for what has been decreed wil certainly be fulfil ed.	36 O rei fará o que quiser, elevar-se-á e engrandecer-se-á contra todo o deus; até falará insolentemente contra o Deus dos deuses, e sair-lhe-ão bem as coisas até que a ira chegue ao cúmulo, porque o que foi decretado, cumprir-se-á.
37 Heedless of his fathers' gods, heedless of the god whom women love, heedless of any godwhatever, he wil consider himself greatest of al .	37 Não terá respeito algum aos deuses de seus pais, nem à divindade querida das mulheres ; nenhum caso fará dos deuses, pois se julgará superior a tudo.
38 Instead of them, he wil honour the god of fortresses, will honour a god unknown to his ancestorswith gold and silver, precious stones and valuable presents.	38 Mas venerará o deus das fortalezas no seu lugar, enfeitará com ouro, prata, pedras preciosas e coisas de grande valor, a este deus, que seus pais desconheceram.
39 He wil use the people of an alien god to defend the fortresses; he will confer great honours on thosewhom he acknowledges, by giving them wide authority and by parcel ing the country out for rent.	39 Fortificará as suas praças com um deus estranho; aqueles que o reconhecerem, cumulá-los-á de honras, dar-lhes-á poder sobre muitas coisas e repartirá por eles terras gratuitamente.
40 'When the time comes for the End, the king of the south will try conclusions with him; but the king ofthe north wil come storming down on him with chariots, cavalry, and a large fleet. He wil invade countries,overrun them and drive on.	40 O rei do Meio-dia pelejará contra ele no tempo do fim ; o rei do Aquilão marchará também contra ele como uma tempestade, com grande multidão de carros, de gente a cavalo e com uma grande armada; entrará nas suas terras, como torrente transbordante.
41 He wil invade the Land of Splendour, and many wil fal ; but Edom, Moab, and what remains of thesons of Ammon wil escape him.	41 Depois entrará na terra esplêndida (ou da Judeia), onde muitíssimos cairão. Todavia hão-de escapar às suas mãos, Bdom, Moab e os principais dos filhos de Amon.
42 'He wil reach out to attack countries: Egypt will not escape him.	42 Estenderá a sua mão contra outros países, e a terra do Egipto não escapará.
43 The gold and silver treasures and al the valuables of Egypt wil lie in his power. Libyans andCushites wil be at his feet:	43 Tornar-se-á senhor dos tesouros de ouro, de prata e de tudo o que há de precioso no Egipto. Segui-lo-ão os Líbios e os Etíopes.
44 but reports coming from the East and the north wil worry him, and in great fury he wil set out to bringruin and complete destruction to many.	44 Turbá-lo-ão, porém, notícias vindas do oriente e do Aquilão, e partirá com grande furor para destruir e matar muitos.
45 He wil pitch the tents of his royal headquarters between the sea and the mountains of the HolySplendour. Yet he wil come to his end -- there wil be no help for him.'	45 Erguerá a sua tenda entre os mares e o ínclito e santo monte. Então chegará ao termo da sua vida, e ninguém lhe dará auxilio.
