Isaiah 40

NEW JERUSALEM	Sacra Bibbia Garofalo
1 'Console my people, console them,' says your God.	1 Consolate, consolate il mio popolo, dice il vostro Dio.
2 'Speak to the heart of Jerusalem and cry to her that her period of service is ended, that her guilt hasbeen atoned for, that, from the hand of Yahweh, she has received double punishment for all her sins.'	2 Parlate al cuore di Gerusalemme e proclamatele che è finita la sua sofferenza; che è stata scontata la sua iniquità. Essa ha ricevuto dalla mano di Jahvè doppio castigo per tutti i suoi peccati.
3 A voice cries, 'Prepare in the desert a way for Yahweh. Make a straight highway for our God across thewastelands.	3 Una voce grida: «Nel deserto preparate la via di Jahvè, livellate nella steppa la strada per il nostro Dio.
4 Let every val ey be fil ed in, every mountain and hil be level ed, every cliff become a plateau, everyescarpment a plain;	4 Ogni valle sia colmata, ogni monte e colle si abbassino; il terreno accidentato diventi uniforme, quello scosceso una pianura.
5 then the glory of Yahweh will be revealed and al humanity wil see it together, for the mouth of Yahwehhas spoken.'	5 Si rivelerà la gloria di Jahvè e ogni uomo vedrà la sua magnificenza, poiché la bocca di Jahvè ha parlato».
6 A voice said, 'Cry aloud!' and I said, 'What shal I cry?' -'All humanity is grass and all its beauty like thewild flower's.	6 Una voce dice: «Grida!» e io ho risposto: «Che cosa griderò?» Ogni carne è come erba e tutta la sua gloria è come fiore del campo.
7 The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of Yahweh blows on them. (The grass is surely thepeople.)	7 Secca l’erba, appassisce il fiore perché il vento di Jahvè vi ha soffiato; | veramente erba è il popolo.
8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God remains for ever.'	8 Secca l’erba, appassisce il fiore, ma la parola del nostro Dio sussiste in eterno.
9 Go up on a high mountain, messenger of Zion. Shout as loud as you can, messenger of Jerusalem!Shout fearlessly, say to the towns of Judah, 'Here is your God.'	9 Sali su un alto monte, o messaggera in Sion; alza la voce con forza, o messaggera in Gerusalemme. Alza la voce, non temere; di alle città di Giuda: «Ecco il vostro Dio!
10 Here is Lord Yahweh coming with power, his arm maintains his authority, his reward is with him andhis prize precedes him.	10 Ecco, il Signore Jahvè viene on potenza egli domina con il braccio. Ecco, egli porta con sé il suo premio, lo precede la sua ricompensa.
11 He is like a shepherd feeding his flock, gathering lambs in his arms, holding them against his breastand leading to their rest the mother ewes.	11 Come un pastore egli fa pascolare il gregge lo raduna con il braccio; porta gli agnellini sul petto, le madri che allattano guida dolcemente»
12 Who was it measured the water of the sea in the hol ow of his hand and calculated the heavens to thenearest inch, gauged the dust of the earth to the nearest bushel, weighed the mountains in scales, the hil s in abalance?	12 Chi misurò con il cavo della mano le acque afferrò i cieli col palmo? Chi contenne in un terzo di misura la terra pesò con la stadera le montagne ? e i colli con la bilancia?
13 Who directed the spirit of Yahweh, what counsellor could have instructed him?	13 Chi diresse lo spirito di Jahvè e fu suo consigliere per insegnargli?
14 Whom has he consulted to enlighten him, to instruct him in the path of judgement, to teach himknowledge and show him how to understand?	14 Chi consultò egli per riceverne sapienza e per essere ammaestrato nel sentiero della giustizia? Per imparare la scienza e perché gli fosse manifestata la via della prudenza?
15 See, the nations are like a drop in a bucket, they count as a grain of dust on the scales. See, coastsand islands weigh no more than fine powder.	15 Ecco, le nazioni sono come una goccia da un secchio, sono considerate come polvere sulla bilancia; ecco, le isole pesano quanto un granello di polvere.
16 The Lebanon is not enough for the burning fires nor its animals enough for the burnt offering.	16 Il Libano non basterebbe per il rogo né le sue fiere per l’olocausto.
17 Al the nations are as nothing before him, for him they count as nothingness and emptiness.	17 Tutte le nazioni sono un nulla davanti a lui, come nullità e vanità sono ritenute da lui.
18 To whom can you compare God? What image can you contrive of him?	18 A chi paragonereste Dio, quale somiglianza trovereste con lui?
19 The craftsman casts an idol, a goldsmith overlays it with gold and casts silver chains for it.	19 Il fabbro fonde l’idolo, l’orafo lo riveste di oro. Si aiutano l’un l’altro; ognuno dice al compagno: «Coraggio!» Il fabbro incoraggia l’orafo; chi leviga con il martello incoraggia chi massella; della saldatura egli dice: «Va bene? quindi si rafforza con chiodi perché non muova.
20 Someone too poor to afford a sacrifice chooses a piece of wood that will not rot; he then seeks out askil ed craftsman to set up an idol that wil not totter.	20 Chi ha poco da offrire sceglie legno che non marcisce; egli ricerca un artefice sapiente, così che gli faccia una statua che non si muova.
21 Did you not know, had you not heard? Was it not told you from the beginning? Have you notunderstood how the earth was set on its foundations?	21 Forse non lo sapete? Non lo avete udito? Non vi fu forse annunciato dal principio? Non lo avete compreso? Chi ha fondato il mondo?
22 He who sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, the inhabitants of which are like grasshoppers,stretches out the heavens like a cloth, spreads them out like a tent to live in.	22 Egli siede sulla volta del mondo, i cui abitanti sono come cavallette. Egli stende il cielo come un velo, lo dispiega come una tenda per abitarvi;
23 He reduces princes to nothing, the rulers of the world to mere emptiness.	23 egli riduce in nulla i potenti e annienta i dominatori della terra.
24 Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the soil, than he blowson them and they wither and the storm carries them away like chaff.	24 Appena piantati, appena seminati, appena hanno messo radici nella terra i loro germogli, egli soffia su di loro ed essi seccano; un uragano li strappa via come stoppia.
25 'To whom can you compare me, or who is my equal?' says the Holy One.	25 «E a chi mi paragonereste, quasi chÈio gli sia pari?» dice il Santo.
26 Lift your eyes and look: he who created these things leads out their army in order, summoning each ofthem by name. So mighty is his power, so great his strength, that not one fails to answer.	26 Alzate in alto gli occhi e considerate chi ha creato tali cose! Colui che fa uscire e conta il loro esercito, che le chiama tutte per nome; davanti all’Onnipotente e al Fortissimo nessuno può mancare.
27 How can you say, Jacob, how can you repeat, Israel, 'My way is hidden from Yahweh, my rights areignored by my God'?	27 Perché dici, o Giacobbe, e tu, Israele, ripeti: «La mia via è nascosta a Jahvè e il mio diritto sfugge al mio Dio»?
28 Did you not know? Had you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, he created the remotest partsof the earth. He does not grow tired or weary, his understanding is beyond fathoming.	28 Forse non lo sai? Non lo hai udito? Dio eterno è Jahvè, creatore di tutta la terra. Egli non si stanca né si affanna; la sua sapienza è inscrutabile.
29 He gives strength to the weary, he strengthens the powerless.	29 Egli dà forza allo stanco e moltiplica il vigore allo spossato.
30 Youths grow tired and weary, the young stumble and fal ,	30 I giovani si stancano e si affannano; gli adulti inciampano e cadono;
31 but those who hope in Yahweh wil regain their strength, they wil sprout wings like eagles, thoughthey run they will not grow weary, though they walk they wil never tire.	31 ma quanti sperano in Jahvè riacquistano forza, crescono loro le ali come ad aquile, corrono senza affannarsi, camminano senza stancarsi.
