1 When Rehoboam had consolidated the kingdom and become strong, he, and al Israel with him,abandoned the Law of Yahweh;	1 Quando o reino de Roboão estava bem estabelecido e consolidado, ele abandonou a lei do Senhor, e com ele todo o Israel.
2 and thus it happened that in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt marched onJerusalem, because they had been unfaithful to Yahweh,	2 No quinto ano do reinado de Roboão, Sesac, rei do Egito, marchou contra Jerusalém (porque (os Israelitas) tinham pecado contra o Senhor),
3 with twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand cavalry and countless hordes of Libyans, Sukkiimand Cushites who came from Egypt with him.	3 com mil e duzentos carros de guerra e sessenta mil cavaleiros. Era inumerável a multidão, que com ele tinha vindo do Egito, de Líbios, Suquitas e Etíopes.
4 They captured the fortified towns of Judah and reached Jerusalem.	4 Apoderou-se das praças mais fortes de Judá e chegou até Jerusalém.
5 The prophet Shemaiah then came to Rehoboam and the generals of Judah, who had fal en back onJerusalem before Shishak's advance, and said to them, 'Yahweh says this, "You have abandoned me and so Ihave abandoned you into Shishak's clutches." '	5 O profeta Semeias foi ter com Roboão e com os príncipes de Judá, que se tinham juntado em Jerusalém, fugindo de Sesac, e disse-lhes: Eis o que diz o Senhor: Vós desamparastes-me, e eu vos desamparei também nas mãos de Sesac.
6 At this, the Israelite generals and the king humbled themselves and said, 'Yahweh is just!'	6 Consternados, os príncipes de Israel e o rei disseram: O Senhor é justo.
7 When Yahweh saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah asfol ows, 'They have humbled themselves. I shal not destroy them but shall grant them some degree ofdeliverance. My retribution wil not be poured out on Jerusalem by means of Shishak;	7 Vendo o Senhor que se tinham humilhado, falou a Semeias, nestes termos: Visto que eles se humilharam, não os perderei; dar-lhes-ei algum auxílio, e não farei cair o meu furor sobre Jerusalém por mão de Sesac.
8 they are nonetheless to become his slaves, so that they may learn the difference between serving meand serving kings of other countries.'	8 Todavia ficar-lhão sujeitos, para conhecerem a diferença que há entre o servir-me a mim, e o servir os reis da terra.
9 So Shishak king of Egypt advanced on Jerusalem and carried off the treasures of the Temple and thetreasures of the royal palace. He took everything away, including the golden shields which Solomon had made.	9 Sesac, rei do Egito, retirou-se de Jerusalém, depois de ter tirado os tesouros da casa do Senhor e do palácio do rei: levou tudo consigo, inclusivamente os escudos de ouro que Salomão tinha mandado fazer.
10 To replace these, King Rehoboam made bronze shields, entrusting them to the commanders of theguard who guarded the king's palace gate.	10 Para os substituir, o rei Roboão mandou fazer outros de bronze, e entregou-os aos capitães dos escudeiros, que guardavam o átrio do palácio.
11 Whenever the king went to the Temple of Yahweh, the guards would come out carrying them,returning them to the guardroom afterwards.	11 Quando o rei entrava na casa do Senhor, vinham os escudeiros e tomavam-nos; depois tornavam-nos a levar para o quartel da guarda.
12 Because King Rehoboam had humbled himself, the retribution of Yahweh turned away from him soas not to destroy him completely; and there were also some good features in Judah.	12 Porque se tinham humilhado, apartou-se deles a ira do Senhor; não foram inteiramente destruídos, porque ainda se acharam obras boas em Judá.
13 Thus he was able to strengthen his position in Jerusalem and continue as king; for Rehoboam wasforty-one years old when he came to the throne and remained king for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the citychosen by Yahweh from al the tribes of Israel to put his name there. His mother's name was Naamah theAmmonite.	13 O rei Roboão fortificou-se, pois, em Jerusalém, e reinou. Tinha quarenta e um anos quando começou a reinar, e reinou dezassete anos em Jerusalém, cidade que o Senhor tinha escolhido entre todas as das tribos de Israel, para nela estabelecer o seu nome. Sua mãe chamava-se Naama, Amonita.
14 But he did wrong in not setting his heart on seeking Yahweh.	14 Ele fez o mal, não dispondo o seu coração para buscar o Senhor.
15 The history of Rehoboam, from first to last, is this not all written down in the records of Shemaiah theprophet and of Iddo the seer? Warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam went on throughout the period.	15 As ações de Roboão, assim as primeiras como as últimas, estão escritas nos livros do profeta Semeias e de Ado, o vidente, com exatidão. Roboão e Jeroboão tiveram guerra entre si durante todos os seus dias.
16 When Rehoboam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Abijahsucceeded him.	16 Roboão adormeceu com seus pais, e foi sepultado na cidade de Davide. Seu filho Abia reinou em seu lugar.
