NEW JERUSALEM	Sacra Bibbia Garofalo
1 When Rehoboam reached Jerusalem, he mustered a hundred and eighty thousand picked warriors ofthe House of Judah and Benjamin to fight Israel and win back the kingdom for Rehoboam.	1 Roboamo, giunto a Gerusalemme, radunò centoottantamila guerrieri scelti della stirpe di Giuda e di Beniamin per dare battaglia a Israele e così riguadagnarsi il regno.
2 But the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah, man of God,	2 Ma la parola di Jahvè fu rivolta a Shemaia, uomo di Dio:
3 'Say this to Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to al Israel in Judah and Benjamin,	3 «Riferisci a Roboamo figlio di Salomone, re di Giuda, e a tutto Israele che abita in Giuda e in Beniamin:
4 "Yahweh says this: Do not go and make war on your brothers; let everyone go home, for this is mydoing." ' They obeyed Yahweh's command and went back instead of marching against Jeroboam.	4 “Così dice Jahvè: Non salite né combattete con i vostri fratelli; torni ognuno alla sua casa, perché io sono l’autore di tale fatto”». Quelli ascoltarono la parola di Jahvè e desistettero dalla spedizione contro Geroboamo.
5 Rehoboam, residing in Jerusalem, fortified a number of towns for the defence of Judah.	5 Roboamo ritornò a Gerusalemme e trasformò in fortezze alcune città di Giuda.
6 He built Bethlehem, Etam, Tekoa,	6 Così egli ridusse a città fortificate Betlemme, Etam, Tekoa,
7 Beth-Zur, Soco, Adul am,	7 Bet-Zur, Soco, Adullam,
8 Gath, Mareshah, Ziph,	8 Gat, Maresha, Zif,
9 Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah,	9 Adoraim, Lachish, Azeka,
10 Zorah, Aijalon, Hebron, these being the fortified towns in Judah and Benjamin.	10 Zorea, Aialon ed Hebron; esse si trovano in Giudale in Beniamin.
11 He equipped these fortresses, stationing commanders in them, with supplies of food, oil and wine,	11 Dopo avere munito le fortificazioni, collocò capi e magazzini di viveri, di olio e di vino.
12 and shields and spears in each of these towns, making them extremely strong and thus retainingcontrol of Judah and Benjamin.	12 In ogni città depose scudi e lance, rendendole così assai potenti. Giuda e Beniamin si sottoposero a lui;
13 The priests and the Levites from all over Israel left their districts to put themselves at his disposal.	13 ma anche i sacerdoti e i Leviti, sparsi per tutto Israele, vennero da tutte le loro contrade per schierarsi dalla sua parte.
14 The Levites, indeed, abandoned their pasture lands and their holdings and came to Judah andJerusalem because Jeroboam and his sons had excluded them from the priesthood of Yahweh.	14 I Leviti infatti, abbandonati i loro pascoli e i loro possedimenti, andarono in Giuda e a Gerusalemme, perché Geroboamo con i figli li aveva esonerati dall’ufficio di sacerdoti di Jahvè
15 Jeroboam had appointed his own priests for the high places dedicated to the satyrs and calves whichhe had made.	15 e si era costituito sacerdoti per le alture, i capri e i vitelli che egli stesso, aveva fabbricato
16 And those members of al the tribes of Israel who were determined to seek Yahweh, God of Israel,fol owed those priests and Levites to Jerusalem to sacrifice to Yahweh, God of their ancestors.	16 Dietro l’esempio dei Leviti vennero a Gerusalemme per offrire sacrifici a Jahvè Dio dei loro padri quanti fra tutte le tribù di Israele avevano in cuore di ricercare Jahvè Dio di Israele.
17 These added strength to the kingdom of Judah and gave their support to Rehoboam son of Solomonfor three years. For three years they remained loyal to David and Solomon.	17 Costoro consolidarono il regno di Giuda e furono di appoggio a Roboamo figlio di Salomone per tre anni; per tre anni infatti camminarono per la via di David e di Salomone.
18 Rehoboam married Mahalath daughter of Jerimoth, son of David, and of Abihail daughter of Eliabson of Jesse,	18 Roboamo sposò Makhalat figlia di Jerimot, figlio di David e di Abihail figlia di Eliab, figlio di Jesse.
19 and she bore him sons: Jeush, Shemariah and Zaham.	19 Essa gli partorì figli: Jeush, Shemaria e Zaham.
20 After her, he married Maacah daughter of Absalom, who bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza and Shelomith.	20 Dopo di lei sposò Maacha figlia di Assalonne. Questa gli partorì Abia, Attai, Ziza e Shelomit.
21 Rehoboam loved Maacah daughter of Absalom, more than all his other wives and concubines. Hehad in fact a total of eighteen wives and sixty concubines and fathered twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.	21 Roboamo predilesse Maacha figlia di Assalonne, fra tutte le donne e le concubine; egli ebbe infatti diciotto donne e sessanta concubine e generò ventotto figli e sessanta figlie.
22 Rehoboam named Abijah son of Maacah as head, hence leader, of his brothers, with a view tomaking him king,	22 Roboamo costituì Abia figlio di Maacha, capo, cioè principe tra i suoi fratelli. Egli aveva l’intenzione di farlo poi re.
23 and acted wisely by distributing his sons throughout the territories of Judah and Benjamin, some ineach fortified town, where he provided plenty of food for them and found them wives.	23 Distribuì saggiamente tutti i figli nelle varie contrade di Giuda e di Beniamin e nelle roccheforti, provvide loro un ricco sostentamento e procurò loro molte donne.
