1 The Philistines gave battle to Israel and the Israelites, fleeing from the Philistines, fel and wereslaughtered on Mount Gilboa.	1 Os Filisteus combatiam contra Israel, e os Israelitas fugiram diante dos Filisteus, caindo (muitos deles) mortos no monte de Gelboé.
2 The Philistines bore down on Saul and his sons, and they kil ed Jonathan, Abinadab and Malchishua,Saul's sons.	2 Avançando os Filisteus no alcance de Saul e de seus filhos, mataram Jónatas, Abinadab e Melquisua, filhos de Saul.
3 The fighting grew fiercer round Saul; the archers came upon him, and he was wounded by thearchers.	3 O combate tornou-se mais violento contra Saul; os frecheiros reconheceram-no e traspassaram-no com as suas setas.
4 Saul then said to his armour-bearer, 'Draw your sword and run me through with it. I do not want theseuncircumcised men to come and make fun of me.' But his armour-bearer was very much afraid and would not doit. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.	4 Saul disse ao seu escudeiro: Desembaínha a tua espada e mata-me, não suceda virem estes incircuncidados zombar de mim. Todavia o escudeiro, possuído de temor, não quis fazer tal; então Saul pegou na sua espada e lançou-se sobre ela.
5 His armour-bearer, seeing that Saul was dead, fel on his sword too and died with him.	5 Vendo isto o seu escudeiro, vendo que Saul certamente estava morto, ele mesmo se lançou também sobre a sua própria espada, e morreu.
6 Thus died Saul, his three sons and his entire household together.	6 Morreu Saul e três filhos seus, e toda a sua família pereceu juntamente.
7 When al the Israelites who were in the val ey saw that the Israelites had been routed and that Sauland his sons were dead, they abandoned their towns and fled. The Philistines then came and occupied them.	7 Os Israelitas que habitavam nos campos, ao verem que os homens de Israel fugiram e que estavam mortos Saul e seus filhos, abandonaram as suas cidades, e espalharam-se cada um para seu lado. Vieram (então) os Filisteus e estabeleceram-se nelas.
8 When the Philistines came on the fol owing day to strip the dead, they found Saul and his sons lyingon Mount Gilboa.	8 No dia seguinte, tirando os Filisteus os despojos dos mortos, encontraram Saul e os seus filhos estendidos no monte de Gelboé.
9 They stripped him and, taking his head and his armour, had these carried round the territory of thePhilistines to proclaim the good news to their idols and their people.	9 Tendo-o despojado e cortado a cabeça e tirado as armas, levaram-no para a sua terra, para ser visto por todas as partes, e para que fosse exposto nos templos dos seus ídolos e aos olhos do povo.
10 They placed his armour in the temple of their gods and nailed his head up in the temple of Dagon.	10 Consagraram as suas armas no templo do seu deus e pregaram a cabeça no templo de Dagon.
11 When al the inhabitants of Jabesh in Gilead heard everything that the Philistines had done to Saul,	11 Tendo os habitantes de Jabes de Galaad ouvido tudo o que os Filisteus tinham feito a Saul,
12 the warriors al set out and took the bodies of Saul and his sons away; they brought them to Jabeshand buried their bones under the tamarisk of Jabesh and fasted for seven days.	12 juntaram-se os mais fortes deles, partiram e tiraram os cadáveres de Saul e dos seus filhos, trouxeram-nos para Jabes, e enterraram os seus ossos debaixo do carvalho que havia em Jabes, e jejuaram sete dias.
13 Thus died Saul in the infidelity of which he had been guilty towards Yahweh, in that he had notobeyed the word of Yahweh and because he had consulted a necromancer for guidance.	13 Morreu Saul por causa das suas iniquidades, por ter desobedecido ao mandamento que o Senhor lhe tinha imposto, e consultado os evocadores dos mortos.
14 He had not consulted Yahweh, who therefore caused his death and transferred the monarchy toDavid son of Jesse.	14 Não consultou o Senhor, por isso ele o matou, e transferiu o seu reino para Davide, filho de Isaí.
