Genesis 28

NEW JERUSALEM	Le Sainte Bible Vigouroux
1 So Isaac summoned Jacob and blessed him; and he gave him this order: 'You are not to marry any ofthe Canaanite women.	1 (C'est pourquoi) Isaac, ayant donc appelé Jacob, le bénit, et lui fit ce commandement : Ne prends point, lui dit-il, une femme d'entre les filles de Chanaan ;
2 Go off to Paddan-Aram, the home of Bethuel your mother's father, and there choose a wife foryourself from the daughters of Laban your mother's brother.	2 mais va en Mésopotamie de Syrie, en la maison de Bathuel, père de ta mère, et épouse une des filles de Laban ton oncle.
3 May El Shaddai bless you; may he make you fruitful and make you multiply so that you become agroup of nations.	3 Que le Dieu tout-puissant te bénisse, qu'il (te) multiplie ta race, afin que tu sois le chef de plusieurs (d'un grand nombre de) peuples.
4 May he grant you the blessing of Abraham, you and your descendants after you, so that one day youmay own the country where you are now living as a stranger -- which God gave to Abraham.'	4 Qu'il te donne, et à ta postérité après toi, les bénédictions qu'il a promises à Abraham, et qu'il te fasse posséder la terre où tu demeureras comme étranger, qu'il a promise à ton aïeul.
5 Then Isaac sent Jacob away, and Jacob went to Paddan-Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel theAramaean and brother of Rebekah the mother of Jacob and Esau.	5 Jacob, ayant pris ainsi congé d'Isaac, partit pour se rendre en Mésopotamie de Syrie, chez Laban, fils de Bathuel, Syrien, frère de Rébecca sa mère.
6 When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him to Paddan-Aram to choose a wife there,and that in blessing him he had given him this order: 'You are not to choose a wife from the Canaanite women,'	6 Mais Esaü, voyant que son père avait béni Jacob, et l'avait envoyé en Mésopotamie de Syrie, pour épouser une femme de ce pays-là ; qu'après lui avoir donné sa bénédiction, il lui avait fait ce commandement : Tu ne prendrez point de femme d'entre les filles de Chanaan ;
7 and that, in obedience to his father and mother, Jacob had gone to Paddan-Aram,	7 et que Jacob, obéissant à son père et à sa mère, était allé en Syrie ;
8 Esau then realised how much his father Isaac disapproved of the Canaanite women.	8 ayant vu aussi par expérience que les filles de Chanaan ne plaisaient point à son père,
9 So Esau went to Ishmael and chose for a wife, in addition to the wives he had, Mahalath daughter ofAbraham's son Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth.	9 il alla auprès d'Ismaël, et outre les femmes qu'il avait déjà, il épousa Mahéleth, fille d'Ismaël, fils d'Abraham, et sœur de Nabaïoth.
10 Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran.	10 Jacob, étant donc sorti de Bersabée, allait à Haran ;
11 When he had reached a certain place, he stopped there for the night, since the sun had set. Takingone of the stones of that place, he made it his pil ow and lay down where he was.	11 et étant venu en un certain lieu, comme il voulait s'y reposer après le coucher du soleil, il prit une des pierres qui étaient là, et la mit sous sa tête ; et il s'endormit au même lieu.
12 He had a dream: there was a ladder, planted on the ground with its top reaching to heaven; andGod's angels were going up and down on it.	12 Alors il vit en songe une échelle, dont le pied était appuyé sur la terre, et le haut touchait au ciel ; et des anges de Dieu montaient et descendaient le long de l'échelle.
13 And there was Yahweh, standing beside him and saying, 'I, Yahweh, am the God of Abraham yourfather, and the God of Isaac. The ground on which you are lying I shall give to you and your descendants.	13 Il vit aussi le Seigneur appuyé sur le haut de l'échelle, qui lui dit : Je suis le Seigneur, le Dieu d'Abraham ton père, et le Dieu d'Isaac. Je te donnerai et à ta race (postérité) la terre où tu dors.
14 Your descendants wil be as plentiful as the dust on the ground; you wil spread out to west and east,to north and south, and al clans on earth wil bless themselves by you and your descendants.	14 Ta postérité sera comme la poussière de la terre : tu t'étendras à l'orient et à l'occident, au septentrion et au midi ; et toutes les nations de la terre seront bénies en toi, et dans celui qui sortira de toi (en ta postérité).
15 Be sure, I am with you; I shal keep you safe wherever you go, and bring you back to this country, forI shal never desert you until I have done what I have promised you.'	15 Je serai ton protecteur partout où tu iras, je te ramènerai dans ce pays, et ne te quitterai point que je n'aie accompli tout ce que j'ai dit.
16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, 'Truly, Yahweh is in this place and I did not know!'	16 Jacob, s'étant éveillé après son sommeil, dit ces paroles : Le Seigneur est vraiment en ce lieu-ci, et je ne le savais pas.
17 He was afraid and said, 'How awe-inspiring this place is! This is nothing less than the abode of God,and this is the gate of heaven!'	17 Et, tout effrayé, il ajouta : Que ce lieu est terrible ! C'est véritablement la maison de Dieu et la porte du ciel.
18 Early next morning, Jacob took the stone he had used for his pillow, and set it up as a pil ar, pouringoil over the top of it.	18 Jacob, se levant donc le matin, prit la pierre qu'il avait mise sous sa tête, et l'érigea comme un monument, répandant de l'huile dessus.
19 He named the place Bethel, but before that the town had been cal ed Luz.	19 Il donna aussi le nom de Béthel à la ville, qui auparavant s'appelait Luza.
20 Jacob then made this vow, 'If God remains with me and keeps me safe on this journey I am making,if he gives me food to eat and clothes to wear,	20 Et il fit en même temps ce vœu, en disant : Si Dieu demeure avec moi, s'il me protège dans le chemin par lequel je marche, et me donne du pain pour me nourrir, et des vêtements pour me vêtir ;
21 and if I come home safe to my father's home, then Yahweh shal be my God.	21 et si je retourne heureusement en (à) la maison de mon père, le Seigneur sera mon Dieu ;
22 This stone I have set up as a pil ar is to be a house of God, and I shal faithful y pay you a tenth partof everything you give me.'	22 et cette pierre que j'ai dressée comme un monument s'appellera la Maison de Dieu ; et je vous offrirai, Seigneur, la dîme de tout ce que vous m'aurez donné.
