1 While he was going through a field of grain on a sabbath, his disciples were picking the heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands, and eating them.	1 - Un giorno di sabato, detto secondo-primo, egli attraversava dei campi di grano e i suoi discepoli coglievan spighe e, stropicciandole con le mani, ne mangiavano.
2 Some Pharisees said, "Why are you doing what is unlawful on the sabbath?"	2 Allora alcuni Farisei chiesero: «Perchè fate quello che non è lecito fare in giorno di sabato?».
3 Jesus said to them in reply, "Have you not read what David did when he and those (who were) with him were hungry?	3 Gesù rispose loro: «Non avete dunque mai letto neppure quello che fece David, quand'egli e quei che l'accompagnavano ebbero fame?
4 (How) he went into the house of God, took the bread of offering, which only the priests could lawfully eat, ate of it, and shared it with his companions."	4 Come egli entrò nella casa di Dio e prese i pani della Proposizione e ne mangiò e ne diede anche a coloro ch'erano con lui, mentre ai soli sacerdoti è lecito mangiarne?».
5 Then he said to them, "The Son of Man is lord of the sabbath."	5 E soggiungeva loro: «Il Figliuol dell'uomo è padrone anche del sabato».
6 On another sabbath he went into the synagogue and taught, and there was a man there whose right hand was withered.	6 Un altro sabato entrò nella sinagoga e si mise a insegnare. Vi si trovava un uomo che aveva la mano destra inaridita.
7 The scribes and the Pharisees watched him closely to see if he would cure on the sabbath so that they might discover a reason to accuse him.	7 Gli Scribi e i Farisei gli tenevan gli occhi addosso per vedere se egli facesse delle guarigioni in giorno di sabato, e così avere un pretesto per accusarlo.
8 But he realized their intentions and said to the man with the withered hand, "Come up and stand before us." And he rose and stood there.	8 Ma egli, che conosceva i loro pensieri disse all'uomo dalla mano secca: «Alzati su e vieni qua in mezzo!». E colui, alzatosi, si tenne ritto.
9 Then Jesus said to them, "I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?"	9 Gesù disse loro: «Io vi domando: - In giorno di sabato è lecito far del bene o del male, salvar la vita a una persona o ucciderla? -».
10 Looking around at them all, he then said to him, "Stretch out your hand." He did so and his hand was restored.	10 Data un'occhiata in giro su tutti loro, disse all'uomo: «Stendi la mano». Quegli la stese e la sua mano divenne sana.
11 But they became enraged and discussed together what they might do to Jesus.	11 Ma essi, ripieni di pazzia, complottavano tra loro su ciò che potessero fare a Gesù.
12 In those days he departed to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God.	12 In quei giorni andò sul monte a pregare, e vi passò la notte pregando Iddio.
13 When day came, he called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named apostles:	13 All'alba, chiamò i suoi discepoli e ne scelse dodici, ai quali diede anche il nome di apostoli, cioè:
14 Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,	14 Simone, a cui mise anche nome Pietro, e Andrea fratello di lui, Giacomo e Giovanni, Filippo e Bartolomeo,
15 Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called a Zealot,	15 Matteo e Tommaso, Giacomo figlio d'Alfeo e Simone detto Zelote,
16 and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.	16 Giuda fratello di Giacomo e Giuda Iscariote, che fu poi traditore.
17 And he came down with them and stood on a stretch of level ground. A great crowd of his disciples and a large number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon	17 E sceso con loro, si fermò in una pianura, con gran folla de' suoi discepoli e gran quantità di popolo,
18 came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and even those who were tormented by unclean spirits were cured.	18 i quali erano venuti da tutta la Giudea e da Gerusalemme e dal litorale di Tiro e Sidone, per ascoltarlo ed esser guariti dalle loro infermità. E quelli ch'eran tormentati da spiriti immondi, ne erano guariti.
19 Everyone in the crowd sought to touch him because power came forth from him and healed them all.	19 E tutto il popolo cercava di toccarlo, perchè usciva da lui una forza che guariva tutti.
20 And raising his eyes toward his disciples he said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours.	20 Allora alzati gli occhi verso i suoi discepoli, egli disse: «Beati voi, o poveri, perchè il regno di Dio è vostro!
21 Blessed are you who are now hungry, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who are now weeping, for you will laugh.	21 Beati voi che ora avete fame, perchè sarete saziati! Beati voi che ora piangete, perchè riderete!
22 Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man.	22 Sarete beati, quando gli uomini vi odieranno e vi bandiranno dalla loro compagnia, e vi caricheranno di obbrobrio e ripudieranno come abominevole il vostro nome, per causa del Figliuol dell'uomo.
23 Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven. For their ancestors treated the prophets in the same way.	23 Rallegratevi in quel giorno e tripudiate, perchè il vostro premio sarà grande nei cieli; così facevano i padri loro ai profeti.
24 But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.	24 Ma guai a voi, o ricchi, perchè avete già la vostra consolazione!
25 But woe to you who are filled now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will grieve and weep.	25 Guai a voi, che siete satolli, perchè patirete la fame! A voi, che ora ridete, perchè piangerete e gemerete!
26 Woe to you when all speak well of you, for their ancestors treated the false prophets in this way.	26 Guai a voi quando tutti gli uomini diranno bene di voi, perchè i padri di costoro facevano così coi falsi profeti.
27 "But to you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,	27 Ma a voi, che ascoltate, io dico: - Amate i vostri nemici; fate del bene a coloro che vi odiano.
28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.	28 Benedite coloro che vi maledicono e pregate per i vostri calunniatori.
29 To the person who strikes you on one cheek, offer the other one as well, and from the person who takes your cloak, do not withhold even your tunic.	29 Se uno ti percuote su una guancia, e tu porgigli anche l'altra; e se uno ti toglie il mantello, e tu non impedirgli di prenderti anche la tunica.
30 Give to everyone who asks of you, and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back.	30 Dà a chiunque ti chiede, e se qualcuno ti toglie il tuo, non ridomandarglielo.
31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.	31 Ciò che voi volete che gli uomini facciano a voi, fatelo voi pure a loro.
32 For if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.	32 Se voi amate coloro che vi amano, qual merito ne avete? Anche i peccatori amano coloro che li amano.
33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same.	33 E se fate del bene a coloro che lo fanno a voi, qual merito ne avete? I peccatori fanno altrettanto.
34 If you lend money to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit (is) that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, and get back the same amount.	34 E se prestate denaro a coloro, dai quali sperate di ricavarne, qual merito ne avete? Anche i peccatori prestano ai peccatori, per ricevere altrettanto.
35 But rather, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting nothing back; then your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.	35 Ma voi amate i vostri nemici; fate del bene e date in prestito senza speranza di ricambio; e grande sarà la vostra ricompensa e voi sarete i figli dell'Altissimo, ch'è buono pure verso gl'ingrati, e i cattivi.
36 Be merciful, just as (also) your Father is merciful.	36 Siate dunque misericordiosi, com'è misericordioso il Padre vostro.
37 "Stop judging and you will not be judged. Stop condemning and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven.	37 Non giudicate e non sarete giudicati; non condannate e non sarete condannati; perdonate e vi sarà perdonato.
38 Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you."	38 Date e vi sarà dato; vi sarà versata in grembo una misura buona, pigiata, scossa e straboccante, perchè con la medesima misura con la quale misurate, sarà rimisurato a voi -».
39 And he told them a parable, "Can a blind person guide a blind person? Will not both fall into a pit?	39 Poi disse loro questa parabola: «Può mai un cieco guidare un altro cieco? Non cascheranno tutt'e due nel fosso?
40 No disciple is superior to the teacher; but when fully trained, every disciple will be like his teacher.	40 Il discepolo non è da più del maestro ma ogni discepolo sarà perfetto quando sia come il suo maestro.
41 Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own?	41 Perchè poi guardi la pagliuzza che è nell'occhio di tuo fratello e non badi alla trave che hai nel tuo?
42 How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me remove that splinter in your eye,' when you do not even notice the wooden beam in your own eye? You hypocrite! Remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter in your brother's eye.	42 Come puoi dire a tuo fratello: - Lascia, fratello, ch'io ti cavi la pagliuzza che hai nell'occhio -; mentre tu stesso non vedi la trave che sta nell'occhio tuo? Ipocrita, leva prima la trave dal tuo occhio, e allora ci vedrai bene per cavare la pagliuzza, che è nell'occhio di tuo fratello.
43 "A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit.	43 Non è infatti albero buono quello che dà frutti cattivi, nè vi è albero cattivo che dia frutti buoni;
44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For people do not pick figs from thornbushes, nor do they gather grapes from brambles.	44 ciascun albero si conosce perciò dal suo frutto e così non si raccolgono fichi dalle spine, nè si vendemmia uva dal pruno.
45 A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good, but an evil person out of a store of evil produces evil; for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks.	45 L'uomo buono cava fuori il bene dal buon tesoro del suo cuore e il cattivo cava fuori il male dal suo cattivo tesoro poichè la bocca parla dall'abbondanza del cuore.
46 "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' but not do what I command?	46 Perchè mi chiamate: - Signore, Signore, - mentre non fate ciò che vi dico?
47 I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, listens to my words, and acts on them.	47 Chiunque viene a me e ascolta le mie parole e le mette in pratica, io vi mostrerò a chi somiglia.
48 That one is like a person building a house, who dug deeply and laid the foundation on rock; when the flood came, the river burst against that house but could not shake it because it had been well built.	48 Somiglia a un uomo, il quale, fabbricando una casa, ha scavato molto profondo e ha gettato le fondamenta sulla roccia. Venuta l'inondazione, il torrente ha urtato contro la casa, ma non l'ha potuta scrollare, perchè era piantata sulla roccia.
49 But the one who listens and does not act is like a person who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the river burst against it, it collapsed at once and was completely destroyed."	49 Invece chi ascolta la mia parola e non la mette in pratica, somiglia a un uomo, che ha fabbricato la sua casa sul suolo senza fondamenta; è venuto il torrente a urtare contro di essa, e subito è crollata; e grande fu la rovina di quella casa».
