1 Zelophehad, son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, son of Joseph, had daughters named Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah. They came forward,	1 Andarono le figlie di Salfaad, figliuolo di Efer, figliuolo di Galaad, figliuolo di Machir, figliuolo di Manasse, che fu figliuolo di Iosef; delle quali questi sono i nomi: Maala Noa ed Egla e Melca e Tersa.
2 and standing in the presence of Moses, the priest Eleazar, the princes, and the whole community at the entrance of the meeting tent, said:	2 E istettero in presenza di Moisè e di Elea zaro sacerdote e di tutti i principi del popolo, dinanzi alla porta del tabernacolo del patto, e dissero:
3 "Our father died in the desert. Although he did not join those who banded together against the LORD (in Korah's band), he died for his own sin without leaving any sons.	3 Il padre nostro sì è morto nel deserto, e non fue in quello consiglio il quale fece Core contro Iddio, ma morio per suo peccato e di sua morte. Costui non ebbe figliuoli maschi. Per quale cagione si è tolto il nome suo della sua famiglia? Però benchè non avesse figliuoli maschii, dateci le possessioni fra i cognati del padre nostro (e a lui succediamo per eredità).
4 But why should our father's name be withdrawn from his clan merely because he had no son? Let us, therefore, have property among our father's kinsmen."	4 Riferì Moisè la causa di queste donne allo giudicio del Signore.
5 When Moses laid their case before the LORD,	5 Lo quale disse a lui:
6 the LORD said to him,	6 La dimanda delle figliuole di Salfaad è giusta; dà a loro possessione fra li cognati del padre suo, e a lui succedano in eredità.
7 "The plea of Zelophehad's daughters is just; you shall give them hereditary property among their father's kinsmen, letting their father's heritage pass on to them.	7 Ai figliuoli d'Israel parla queste parole:
8 Therefore, tell the Israelites: If a man dies without leaving a son, you shall let his heritage pass on to his daughter;	8 L'uomo che morrà senza figliuolo, alla sua figliuola rimarrà la sua eredità.
9 if he has no daughter, you shall give his heritage to his brothers;	9 E se figliuola non avesse, date la eredità ai suoi fratelli.
10 if he has no brothers, you shall give his heritage to his father's brothers;	10 E se fratelli non avesse, datela a' fratelli del padre suo.
11 if his father had no brothers, you shall give his heritage to his nearest relative in his clan, who shall then take possession of it." This is the legal norm for the Israelites, as the LORD commanded Moses.	11 E se sanza tutti questi la rimane, datela ai più prossimi parenti. E questa sarà la sua legge santa, perpetuale ai figliuoli d'Israel, secondo che Iddio comandò a Moisè.
12 The LORD said to Moses, "Go up here into the Abarim Mountains and view the land that I am giving to the Israelites.	12 E disse Iddio a Moisè: sali sopra questo monte Abarim, e ragguarda la terra ch' io debbo dare ai figliuoli d'Israel.
13 When you have viewed it, you too shall be taken to your people, as was your brother Aaron,	13 E quando tu l'avrai veduta, anderai tu, come andò Aaron tuo fratello, al popolo tuo.
14 because in the rebellion of the community in the desert of Zin you both rebelled against my order to manifest my sanctity to them by means of the water." (This is the water of Meribah of Kadesh in the desert of Zin.)	14 Perciò che tu mi offendesti nello deserto di Sin in contraddizione della moltitudine, nè volestimi santificare in presenza loro sopra l'acqua. E queste sono l'acque della contraddizione in Cades dello deserto di Sin.
15 Then Moses said to the LORD,	15 E Moisè rispuose:
16 "May the LORD, the God of the spirits of all mankind, set over the community a man	16 Proveggia Iddio lo spirito d'ogni carne, e uno uomo che sia sopra questa moltitudine,
17 who shall act as their leader in all things, to guide them in all their actions; that the LORD'S community may not be like sheep without a shepherd."	17 e che possa entrare e uscire [innanzi] a loro, e menargli e conservargli; e non sia il popolo di Dio come pecore, le quali non hanno pastore.
18 And the LORD replied to Moses, "Take Joshua, son of Nun, a man of spirit, and lay your hand upon him.	18 E Iddio dissegli: togli Iosuè figliuolo di Nun, uomo nel quale si è lo spirito di Dio; e poni la tua mano sopra di lui.
19 Have him stand in the presence of the priest Eleazar and of the whole community, and commission him before their eyes.	19 Ed egli starà in presenza di Eleazaro sacerdote, e di tutta la moltitudine.
20 Invest him with some of your own dignity, that the whole Israelite community may obey him.	20 E daraigli i comandamenti in presenza d'ogni persona, e parte della gloria tua, acciò che l'oda ogni sinagoga del popolo d'Israel.
21 He shall present himself to the priest Eleazar, to have him seek out for him the decisions of the Urim in the LORD'S presence; and as he directs, Joshua, all the Israelites with him, and the community as a whole shall perform all their actions."	21 E se per lui sarà di fare alcuna cosa, Eleazaro sacerdote orerà a Dio. Alla sua parola entrerà e uscirà, e anco lui, e tutto il popolo d'Israel con lui, e l'altra moltitudine.
22 Moses did as the LORD had commanded him. Taking Joshua and having him stand in the presence of the priest Eleazar and of the whole community,	22 E fece Moisè secondo che Iddio gli comandò. Chiamato che ebbe (Moisè) Iosuè, in presenza di Eleazaro sacerdote e di tutto il popolo,
23 he laid his hands on him and gave him his commission, as the LORD had directed through Moses.	23 puosegli la mano in capo, e disse tutte quelle cose che Iddio gli avea comandato.
