Sirach 40

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 A great anxiety has God allotted, and a heavy yoke, to the sons of men; From the day one leaves his mother's womb to the day he returns to the mother of all the living,	1 Una occupazione grande è (nata e) creata a tutti li uomini, e grave giogo sopra li figliuoli di Adamo, dal die che uscirono del ventre della madre loro, infino nel die della sepoltura nella madre di tutti;
2 His thoughts, the fear in his heart, and his troubled forebodings till the day he dies--	2 cioè li loro pensieri e le pagure del cuore e li trovamenti dell' aspettare e il dì dello affinimento (di questa occupazione);
3 Whether he sits on a lofty throne or grovels in dust and ashes,	3 da colui che siede (Signore) nella gloriosa sede insino a colui che è abbassato in terra e in cenere;
4 Whether he bears a splendid crown or is wrapped in the coarsest of cloaks--	4 e da colui che usa il color (rosato ovver) celeste, e porta corona, infino a colui che è coperto di lino crudo; furore, gelosia, rumore, tempesta, paura di morte, perseverante iracundia e contenzione,
5 Are of wrath and envy, trouble and dread, terror of death, fury and strife. Even when he lies on his bed to rest, his cares at night disturb his sleep.	5 e nel tempo della refezione nella camera il sogno della notte (che) muta la scienza sua.
6 So short is his rest it seems like none, till in his dreams he struggles as he did by day, Terrified by what his mind's eye sees, like a fugitive being pursued;	6 Poco come niente sta in riposo, e da lui si vede nel sonno, sì come nel dì si fa ragguardamento.
7 As he reaches safety, he wakes up astonished that there was nothing to fear.	7 Conturbato è nel sogno del cuore suo, sì come è conturbato colui ch' è scampato il die della battaglia; levossi suso nel tempo della sua salute, e maravigliandosi (della sua grandezza), nulla temea delle cose che sono,
8 So it is with all flesh, with man and with beast, but for sinners seven times more.	8 dall' uomo infino alla bestia, e sopra li peccatori sette cotanti.
9 Plague and bloodshed, wrath and the sword, plunder and ruin, famine and death:	9 A queste cose (oltre le predette) si aggiugne morte, sangue, contenzione, mortalità, oppressione, fame e dicertamento e battiture.
10 For the wicked, these were created evil, and it is they who bring on destruction.	10 Tutte queste cose sono create sopra li iniqui, e però fu fatto il diluvio.
11 All that is of earth returns to earth, and what is from above returns above.	11 (Però) tutte le cose, che sono di terra, in terra rivertiranno; e tutte l'acque ritorneranno in mare.
12 All that comes from bribes or injustice will be wiped out, but loyalty remains for ages.	12 Ogni dono (temporale) e iniquitade si disfarae; e la fede durerà sempre.
13 Wealth out of wickedness is like a wadi in spate: like a mighty stream with lightning and thunder,	13 Le facultadi delle iniquitadi sì come fiume si seccheranno, e staranno sì come il grande tuono alla piova.
14 Which, in its rising, rolls along the stones, but suddenly, once and for all, comes to an end.	14 In aprire le mani sue s'allegrerà; così li peccatori languiranno nella fine.
15 The offshoot of violence will not flourish, for the root of the godless is on sheer rock;	15 Li nipoti degl' impii non multiplicheranno rami; e le radici corrotte suonano in su la sommitade della pietra.
16 Or they are like reeds on the riverbank, withered before all other plants;	16 La verdezza sopra ogni acqua, e alla bocca del fiume sarà divelta prima che nullo fieno.
17 But goodness will never be cut off, and justice endures forever. Wealth or wages can make life sweet, but better than either is finding a treasure.	17 La grazia sì come il paradiso permane (sempre) nelle benedizioni; e la misericordia starà in eterno.
18 A child or a city will preserve one's name, but better than either, attaining wisdom.	18 La vita dell' operario, lo quale è sufficiente a sè, s'addolcerae; e in lei troverai tesoro.
19 Sheepfolds and orchards bring flourishing health; but better than either, a devoted wife;	19 O figliuolo, lo edificamento della cittade confermerae la fama dello edificatore; e sopra questa fia computata la fen:ina sanza macula.
20 Wine and music delight the soul, but better than either, conjugal love.	20 Il vino e la musica allegrano il cuore; e sopra l'uno e l'altra la dilezione della sapienza.
21 The flute and the harp offer sweet melody, but better than either, a voice that is true.	21 Le pifare e li salteri fanno soave melodia; e sopra l'una e l'altro è la lingua suave.
22 Charm and beauty delight the eye, but better than either, the flowers of the field.	22 L'occhio desidera di vedere le cose belle e ben formate; e sopra questo desideroe verdi campi.
23 A friend, a neighbor, are timely guides, but better than either, a prudent wife.	23 L'amico e il compagno, che nel tempo sono convenevoli, si provano; e sopra amendue la moglie col marito.
24 A brother, a helper, for times of stress; but better than either, charity that rescues.	24 Sono li fratelli in adiutorio nel tempo della tribulazione; e la misericordia, che sopra di loro è, li libererà.
25 Gold and silver make one's way secure, but better than either, sound judgment.	25 Oro e argento è stabilmento de' piedi; e sopra amendue lo buono e unanime consiglio.
26 Wealth and vigor build up confidence, but better than either, fear of God. Fear of the LORD leaves nothing wanting; he who has it need seek no other support:	26 Le facoltadi e le potenze corporali esaltano il cuore; e sopra ciascuna d'esse il timore di Dio.
27 The fear of God is a paradise of blessings; its canopy, all that is glorious.	27 Non è nel timore di Dio diminuzione, e non è bisogno in quello cercare altro adiutorio.
28 My son, live not the life of a beggar, better to die than to beg;	28 Il timore di Dio è sì come paradiso di benedizione, e sopra ogni gloria coprirono quello.
29 When one has to look to another's table, his life is not really a life. His neighbor's delicacies bring revulsion of spirit to one who understands inward feelings:	29 Figliuolo, nel tempo della vita tua non sii mendico; però ch' egli è meglio morire, che mendicare.
30 In the mouth of the shameless man begging is sweet, but within him it burns like fire.	30 L'uomo che guarda ad altrui mensa, non è la vita sua disposta in pensare dond' egli viva; però ch' egli nutrica l'anima sua con gli altrui cibi.
	31 L'uomo addottrinato e ammaestrato si guarderae da questo.
	32 La inopia fia abbattuta nella bocca dello isciocco; il fuoco arderà nel ventre suo.
