Sirach 2

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 My son, when you come to serve the LORD, prepare yourself for trials.	1 Mon fils, si tu prétends servir le Seigneur, prépare-toi à l'épreuve.
2 Be sincere of heart and steadfast, undisturbed in time of adversity.	2 Fais-toi un coeur droit, arme-toi de courage, ne te laisse pas entraîner, au temps de l'adversité.
3 Cling to him, forsake him not; thus will your future be great.	3 Attache-toi à lui, ne t'éloigne pas, afin d'être exalté à ton dernier jour.
4 Accept whatever befalls you, in crushing misfortune be patient;	4 Tout ce qui t'advient, accepte-le et, dans les vicissitudes de ta pauvre condition, montre-toipatient,
5 For in fire gold is tested, and worthy men in the crucible of humiliation.	5 car l'or est éprouvé dans le feu, et les élus dans la fournaise de l'humiliation.
6 Trust God and he will help you; make straight your ways and hope in him.	6 Mets en Dieu ta confiance et il te viendra en aide, suis droit ton chemin et espère en lui.
7 You who fear the LORD, wait for his mercy, turn not away lest you fall.	7 Vous qui craignez le Seigneur, comptez sur sa miséricorde, ne vous écartez pas, de peur detomber.
8 You who fear the LORD, trust him, and your reward will not be lost.	8 Vous qui craignez le Seigneur, ayez confiance en lui, et votre récompense ne saurait faillir.
9 You who fear the LORD, hope for good things, for lasting joy and mercy.	9 Vous qui craignez le Seigneur, espérez ses bienfaits, la joie éternelle et la miséricorde.
10 Study the generations long past and understand; has anyone hoped in the LORD and been disappointed? Has anyone persevered in his fear and been forsaken? has anyone called upon him and been rebuffed?	10 Considérez les générations passées et voyez: qui donc, confiant dans le Seigneur, a étéconfondu? Ou qui, persévérant dans sa crainte, a été abandonné? Ou qui l'a imploré sans avoir été écouté?
11 Compassionate and merciful is the LORD; he forgives sins, he saves in time of trouble.	11 Car le Seigneur est compatissant et miséricordieux, il remet les péchés et sauve au jour de ladétresse.
12 Woe to craven hearts and drooping hands, to the sinner who treads a double path!	12 Malheur aux coeurs lâches et aux mains nonchalantes, et au pécheur dont la conduite estdouble.
13 Woe to the faint of heart who trust not, who therefore will have no shelter!	13 Malheur au coeur nonchalant faute de foi, car il ne sera pas protégé.
14 Woe to you who have lost hope! what will you do at the visitation of the LORD?	14 Malheur à vous qui avez perdu l'endurance, que ferez-vous lorsque le Seigneur vousvisitera?
15 Those who fear the LORD disobey not his words; those who love him keep his ways.	15 Ceux qui craignent le Seigneur ne transgressent pas ses paroles, ceux qui l'aiment observentses voies.
16 Those who fear the LORD seek to please him, those who love him are filled with his law.	16 Ceux qui craignent le Seigneur cherchent à lui plaire, ceux qui l'aiment se rassasient de laloi.
17 Those who fear the LORD prepare their hearts and humble themselves before him.	17 Ceux qui craignent le Seigneur ont un coeur toujours prêt et savent s'humilier devant lui.
18 Let us fall into the hands of the LORD and not into the hands of men, For equal to his majesty is the mercy that he shows.	18 Jetons-nous dans les bras du Seigneur, et non dans ceux des hommes, car telle est samajesté, telle aussi sa miséricorde.
