1 A mild answer calms wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.	1 Una risposta gentile calma la collera, una parola pungente eccita l’ira.
2 The tongue of the wise pours out knowledge, but the mouth of fools spurts forth folly.	2 Le parole dei saggi fanno gustare la scienza, mentre la bocca degli stolti esprime sciocchezze.
3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.	3 Gli occhi del Signore arrivano dappertutto, scrutano i malvagi e i buoni.
4 A soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse one crushes the spirit.	4 Una parola buona è un albero di vita, quella malevola è una ferita al cuore.
5 The fool spurns his father's admonition, but prudent is he who heeds reproof.	5 Lo stolto disprezza la correzione di suo padre, chi tiene conto del rimprovero diventa prudente.
6 In the house of the just there are ample resources, but the earnings of the wicked are in turmoil.	6 Nella casa del giusto c’è abbondanza di beni, sul guadagno dell’empio incombe il dissesto.
7 The lips of the wise disseminate knowledge, but the heart of fools is perverted.	7 Le labbra dei saggi diffondono la scienza, non così il cuore degli stolti.
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.	8 Il sacrificio dei malvagi è un orrore per il Signore, la preghiera dei buoni gli è gradita.
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but he loves the man who pursues virtue.	9 Il Signore ha in orrore la condotta dei perversi, egli ama chi pratica la giustizia.
10 Severe punishment is in store for the man who goes astray; he who hates reproof will die.	10 Correzione severa per chi abbandona il retto sentiero; chi rifiuta i rimproveri morirà!
11 The nether world and the abyss lie open before the LORD; how much more the hearts of men!	11 Abisso e regno dei morti sono palesi davanti al Signore, quanto più i cuori degli uomini!
12 The senseless man loves not to be reproved; to wise men he will not go.	12 Lo spavaldo non vuole essere corretto, egli non va in compagnia dei saggi.
13 A glad heart lights up the face, but by mental anguish the spirit is broken.	13 Un cuore lieto dà serenità al volto, ma quando il cuore è triste, lo spirito è depresso.
14 The mind of the intelligent man seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on folly.	14 Un cuore intelligente desidera imparare, la bocca dello stolto si pasce della sua ignoranza.
15 Every day is miserable for the depressed, but a lighthearted man has a continual feast.	15 Tutti i giorni sono brutti per il povero, per un cuore felice è sempre festa.
16 Better a little with fear of the LORD than a great fortune with anxiety.	16 È meglio aver poco con il timore di Dio che un grande tesoro con l’inquietudine.
17 Better a dish of herbs where love is than a fatted ox and hatred with it.	17 È meglio un piatto di verdura con l’amore che un bue grasso con l’odio.
18 An ill-tempered man stirs up strife, but a patient man allays discord.	18 Chi è collerico suscita contese, chi è paziente calma le liti.
19 The way of the sluggard is hemmed in as with thorns, but the path of the diligent is a highway.	19 La strada del pigro è come una siepe di spine, il sentiero dei retti è scorrevole.
20 A wise son makes his father glad, but a fool of a man despises his mother.	20 Il figlio saggio allieta il padre, il figlio stolto disprezza sua madre.
21 Folly is joy to the senseless man, but the man of understanding goes the straight way.	21 La stoltezza è una gioia per chi è privo di senno; chi è prudente cammina diritto.
22 Plans fail when there is no counsel, but they succeed when counselors are many.	22 Falliscono le decisioni prese senza consultazione, riescono quelle suggerite da molti consiglieri.
23 There is joy for a man in his utterance; a word in season, how good it is!	23 È una gioia saper dare una risposta; una parola detta al momento giusto è gradita!
24 The path of life leads the prudent man upward, that he may avoid the nether world below.	24 Per l’uomo assennato la strada della vita è verso l’alto, per salvarlo dal regno dei morti che è in basso.
25 The LORD overturns the house of the proud, but he preserves intact the widow's landmark.	25 Il Signore abbatte la casa dei superbi, ma consolida il confine della vedova.
26 The wicked man's schemes are an abomination to the LORD, but the pure speak what is pleasing to him.	26 Il Signore aborrisce i pensieri malvagi, ma le parole benevole gli sono gradite.
27 He who is greedy of gain brings ruin on his own house, but he who hates bribes will live.	27 Sconvolge la sua casa chi è avido di guadagni disonesti, ma chi detesta i regali vivrà.
28 The just man weighs well his utterance, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil.	28 La mente del giusto riflette prima di rispondere, ma la bocca dei malvagi esprime cattiveria.
29 The LORD is far from the wicked, but the prayer of the just he hears.	29 Il Signore è lontano dai malvagi, ma ascolta la preghiera dei giusti.
30 A cheerful glance brings joy to the heart; good news invigorates the bones.	30 Uno sguardo luminoso dà gioia al cuore, una notizia lieta rinvigorisce le ossa.
31 He who listens to salutary reproof will abide among the wise.	31 Chi ascolta un rimprovero salutare potrà stare in mezzo ai saggi.
32 He who rejects admonition despises his own soul, but he who heeds reproof gains understanding.	32 Chi rifiuta la correzione disprezza se stesso, ma chi ascolta il rimprovero acquista senno.
33 The fear of the LORD is training for wisdom, and humility goes before honors.	33 Il timore di Dio è scuola di sapienza, prima della gloria c’è l’umiltà.
