1 Upon Azariah, son of Oded, came the spirit of God.	1 O espírito do Senhor se apoderou de Azarias, filho de Obed. Este saiu ao encontro de Asa, e lhe disse:
2 He went forth to meet Asa and said to him: "Hear me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin! The LORD is with you when you are with him, and if you seek him he will be present to you; but if you abandon him, he will abandon you.	2 Escutai-me, Asa, com todo o Judá e Benjamim: O Senhor está convosco assim como vós estais com ele. Se vós o procurais, ele se manifestará a vós, mas se vós o abandonais, ele vos abandonará.
3 For a long time Israel had no true God, no priest-teacher and no law,	3 Durante muito tempo viveu Israel sem o verdadeiro Deus, sem sacerdotes para ensiná-lo, sem a Lei;
4 but when in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was present to them.	4 mas, quando na sua angústia eles se voltaram para o Senhor, Deus de Israel, e o procuraram, ele se manifestou a eles.
5 In that former time there was no peace for anyone to go or come, but there were many terrors upon the inhabitants of the lands.	5 Naqueles tempos não havia segurança alguma para os que viajavam, pois graves distúrbios pesavam sobre a população da terra.
6 Nation crushed nation and city crushed city, for God destroyed them by every kind of adversity.	6 As nações e as cidades entrechocavam-se, porque Deus as agitava com toda espécie de tribulações.
7 But as for you, be strong and do not relax, for your work shall be rewarded."	7 Quanto a vós, sede fortes, não vos acovardeis, pois vosso labor terá sua recompensa.
8 When Asa heard these words and the prophecy (Oded the prophet), he was encouraged to remove the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had taken in the highlands of Ephraim, and to restore the altar of the LORD which was before the vestibule of the LORD.	8 Ouvindo esse oráculo do profeta, Asa, cheio de resolução, fez desaparecer as abominações de toda a terra de Judá e de Benjamim, assim como de todas as cidades que tinha conquistado na montanha de Efraim: restabeleceu o altar do Senhor que se encontrava diante do pórtico do Senhor.
9 Then he convened all Judah and Benjamin, together with those of Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon who sojourned with them; for many had fled to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD, his God, was with him.	9 Em seguida, convocou toda a população de Judá, de Benjamim, assim como os de Efraim, de Manassés e de Simeão que habitavam entre eles {pois grande número de israelitas se tinha aliado a ele, vendo que o Senhor, seu Deus, estava com ele}.
10 They gathered at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa's reign,	10 Eles se reuniram em Jerusalém no terceiro mês do quinto ano do reinado de Asa.
11 and sacrificed to the LORD at that time seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep of the booty they had brought.	11 Nesse dia, sacrificaram ao Senhor, do despojo que tinham trazido, setecentas reses de gado e sete mil ovelhas.
12 They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul;	12 Obrigaram-se solenemente a procurar o Senhor, Deus de seus pais, de todo o seu coração e de toda a sua alma, decididos a matarem,
13 and everyone who would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.	13 pequenos e grandes, homens e mulheres, todo o que não procurasse o Senhor, Deus de Israel.
14 They swore to the LORD with a loud voice, with shouting and with trumpets and horns.	14 Ao som de trombetas e de trompas, no meio de aclamações, fizeram ao Senhor um juramento solene.
15 All Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn with their whole heart and sought him with complete desire, so that he was present to them. And the LORD gave them rest on every side.	15 E todo o Judá esteve em alegria, por causa desse juramento que tinham prestado de todo o seu coração. Foi com perfeita boa vontade que tinham procurado o Senhor; por isso o Senhor se manifestou a eles e lhes assegurou a paz com todos os seus vizinhos.
16 Maacah, the mother of King Asa, he deposed as queen mother because she had made an outrageous object for Asherah; Asa cut this down, smashed it, and burnt it in the Kidron Valley.	16 O rei Asa destituiu até de sua posição de rainha sua mãe Maaca, por ter feito um ídolo de asserá. Asa destruiu a imagem, deixou-a em pedaços e a queimou no vale de Cedron.
17 Although the high places did not disappear from Israel, yet Asa's heart was undivided as long as he lived.	17 Se os lugares altos não desapareceram, o coração de Asa esteve, contudo, totalmente devotado ao Senhor durante toda a sua vida.
18 He brought into the house of God his father's votive offerings and his own: silver, gold, and various utensils.	18 Transportou para o templo do Senhor todos os objetos consagrados por seu pai e por ele mesmo, a prata, o ouro e os utensílios.
19 There was no war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa's reign.	19 Não houve guerra até o trigésimo quinto ano do reinado de Asa.
