1 השמרו לכם מעשות צדקתכם לפני בני אדם למען יראו אתכם ואם לא אין לכם שכר מאת אביכם שבשמים	1 'Be careful not to parade your uprightness in public to attract attention; otherwise you wil lose al rewardfrom your Father in heaven.
2 לכן בעשותך צדקה אל תריע לפניך בשופר כמעשה החנפים בבתי הכנסיות ובחרבות למען יהללו אותם האמשים אמן אמר אני לכם כי לקחו את שכרם	2 So when you give alms, do not have it trumpeted before you; this is what the hypocrites do in thesynagogues and in the streets to win human admiration. In truth I tel you, they have had their reward.
3 ואתה בעשותך צדקה אל תדע שמאלך את אשר עשה ימינך	3 But when you give alms, your left hand must not know what your right is doing;
4 למען תהיה צדקתך בסתר ואביך הראה במסתרים הוא בגלוי יגמלך	4 your almsgiving must be secret, and your Father who sees al that is done in secret wil reward you.
5 וכי תתפלל אל תהי כחנפים האהבים להתפלל בעמדם בבתי הכנסיות ואצל פנות השוקים למען יראו לבני אדם אמן אמר אני לכם כי לקחו את שכרם	5 'And when you pray, do not imitate the hypocrites: they love to say their prayers standing up in thesynagogues and at the street corners for people to see them. In truth I tel you, they have had their reward.
6 ואתה כי תתפלל בוא בחדרך וסגר דלתך בעדך והתפלל אל אביך אשר בסתר ואביך הראה במסתרים הוא בגלוי יגמלך	6 But when you pray, go to your private room, shut yourself in, and so pray to your Father who is in thatsecret place, and your Father who sees al that is done in secret wil reward you.
7 ובהתפללכם אל תפטפטו כגוים החשבים כי בהרבות דבריהם ישמעו	7 'In your prayers do not babble as the gentiles do, for they think that by using many words they wil makethemselves heard.
8 ואתם אל תדמו להם כי יודע אביכם כל צרככם בטרם תשאלו ממנו	8 Do not be like them; your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9 לכן כה תתפללו אבינו שבשמים יתקדש שמך	9 So you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be held holy,
10 תבא מלכותך יעשה רצונך כמו בשמים כן בארץ	10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
11 את לחם חקנו תן לנו היום	11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 וסלח לנו את חבותינו כאשר סלחנו גם אנחנו לחיבינו	12 And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven those who are in debt to us.
13 ואל תביאנו לידי נסיון כי אם חלצנו מן הרע כי לך הממלכה והגבורה והתפארת לעולמי עולמים אמן	13 And do not put us to the test, but save us from the Evil One.
14 כי אם תסלחו לבני אדם את חטאתם אביכם שבשמים יסלח גם לכם	14 'Yes, if you forgive others their failings, your heavenly Father wil forgive you yours;
15 ואם לא תסלחו לבני אדם גם אביכם לא יסלח לכם את חטאתיכם	15 but if you do not forgive others, your Father wil not forgive your failings either.
16 וכי תצומו אל תהיו זעפים כחנפים המשנים את פניהם להראות צמים לבני אדם אמן אמר אני לכם כי לקחו את שכרם	16 'When you are fasting, do not put on a gloomy look as the hypocrites do: they go about lookingunsightly to let people know they are fasting. In truth I tel you, they have had their reward.
17 ואתה כי תצום סוך את ראשך ורחץ את פניך	17 But when you fast, put scent on your head and wash your face,
18 למען לא תראה בצומך לבני אדם כי אם לאביך אשר בסתר ואביך הראה במסתרים הוא בגלוי יגמלך	18 so that no one will know you are fasting except your Father who sees al that is done in secret; andyour Father who sees al that is done in secret wil reward you.
19 אל תאצרו לכם אוצרות בארץ אשר יאכלום שם סס ורקב וגנבים יחתרו שם וגנבו	19 'Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moth and woodworm destroy them andthieves can break in and steal.
20 אבל תאצרו לכם אוצרות בשמים אשר סס ורקב לא יאכלום שם וגנבים לא יחתרו שם ולא יגנבו	20 But store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor woodworm destroys them andthieves cannot break in and steal.
21 כי במקום אשר אוצרכם בו שם יהיה גם לבבכם	21 For wherever your treasure is, there wil your heart be too.
22 נר הגוף הוא העין ואם עינך היא תמימה כל גופך יאור	22 'The lamp of the body is the eye. It follows that if your eye is clear, your whole body will be fil ed withlight.
23 ואם עינך רעה כל גופך יחשך והנה אם יחשך האור אשר בקרבך מה רב החשך	23 But if your eye is diseased, your whole body will be darkness. If then, the light inside you is darkened,what darkness that wil be!
24 לא יוכל איש לעבד שני אדנים כי אם ישנא את האחד ויאהב את האחר או ידבק באחד ויבזה את האחר לא תוכלו עבוד את האלהים ואת הממון	24 'No one can be the slave of two masters: he will either hate the first and love the second, or beattached to the first and despise the second. You cannot be the slave both of God and of money.
25 על כן אמר אני לכם אל תדאגו לנפשכם מה תאכלו ומה תשתו ולגופכם מה תלבשו הלא הנפש היא יקרה מן המזון והגוף יקר מן המלבוש	25 'That is why I am tel ing you not to worry about your life and what you are to eat, nor about your bodyand what you are to wear. Surely life is more than food, and the body more than clothing!
26 הביטו וראו את עוף השמים אשר אינם זרעים ואינם קצרים ואינם אספים לאסמים ואביכם שבשמים מכלכל אתם הלא אתם נעליתם עליהם מאד	26 Look at the birds in the sky. They do not sow or reap or gather into barns; yet your heavenly Fatherfeeds them. Are you not worth much more than they are?
27 ומי זה מכם אשר בדאגתו יוכל להוסיף על קומתו אמה אחת	27 Can any of you, however much you worry, add one single cubit to your span of life?
28 וללבוש למה תדאגו התבוננו נא אל שושני השדה הצמחות אינן עמלות ואינן טות	28 And why worry about clothing? Think of the flowers growing in the fields; they never have to work orspin;
29 ואני אמר לכם כי גם שלמה בכל הדרו לא היה לבוש כאחת מהנה	29 yet I assure you that not even Solomon in al his royal robes was clothed like one of these.
30 ואם ככה מלביש האלהים את חציר השדה אשר היום צמח ומחר ישלך לתוך התנור אף כי אתכם קטני האמונה	30 Now if that is how God clothes the wild flowers growing in the field which are there today and throwninto the furnace tomorrow, wil he not much more look after you, you who have so little faith?
31 לכן אל תדאגו לאמר מה נאכל ומה נשתה ומה נלבש	31 So do not worry; do not say, "What are we to eat? What are we to drink? What are we to wear?"
32 כי את כל אלה מבקשים הגוים הלא ידע אביכם אשר בשמים כי אתם צריכים לכל אלה	32 It is the gentiles who set their hearts on al these things. Your heavenly Father knows you need themal .
33 אך בקשו בראשונה את מלכות אלהים ואת צדקתו ונוסף לכם כל אלה	33 Set your hearts on his kingdom first, and on God's saving justice, and al these other things wil begiven you as wel .
34 לכן אל תדאגו ליום מחר כי יום מחר הוא ידאג לעצמו ודיו ליום צרתו	34 So do not worry about tomorrow: tomorrow wil take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of itsown.'
