MODERN HEBREW BIBLE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 הוי הירדים מצרים לעזרה על סוסים ישענו ויבטחו על רכב כי רב ועל פרשים כי עצמו מאד ולא שעו על קדוש ישראל ואת יהוה לא דרשו	1 Woe to those going down to Egypt for help, who put their trust in horses, who rely on the quantity ofchariots, and on great strength of cavalrymen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult Yahweh.
2 וגם הוא חכם ויבא רע ואת דבריו לא הסיר וקם על בית מרעים ועל עזרת פעלי און	2 Yet he too is wise and can bring disaster and he wil not go back on his word; he wil rise against thebreed of evil-doers and against those who protect wrong-doers.
3 ומצרים אדם ולא אל וסוסיהם בשר ולא רוח ויהוה יטה ידו וכשל עוזר ונפל עזר ויחדו כלם יכליון	3 The Egyptian is human, not divine, his horses are flesh, not spirit; Yahweh wil stretch out his hand: theprotector wil stumble, the protected wil fal and all wil perish together.
4 כי כה אמר יהוה אלי כאשר יהגה האריה והכפיר על טרפו אשר יקרא עליו מלא רעים מקולם לא יחת ומהמונם לא יענה כן ירד יהוה צבאות לצבא על הר ציון ועל גבעתה	4 Yes, this is what Yahweh has said to me: As a lion or lion cub growls over its prey, when scores ofshepherds are summoned to drive it off, without being frightened by their shouting or cowed by the noise theymake, just so will Yahweh Sabaoth descend to fight for Mount Zion and for its hil .
5 כצפרים עפות כן יגן יהוה צבאות על ירושלם גנון והציל פסח והמליט	5 Like hovering birds, so wil Yahweh Sabaoth protect Jerusalem; by protecting it, he will save it, bysupporting it, he wil deliver it.
6 שובו לאשר העמיקו סרה בני ישראל	6 Come back to the one whom the Israelites have so deeply betrayed!
7 כי ביום ההוא ימאסון איש אלילי כספו ואלילי זהבו אשר עשו לכם ידיכם חטא	7 For, that day, each of you wil throw away the false gods of silver and the false gods of gold which yourown sinful hands have made.
8 ונפל אשור בחרב לא איש וחרב לא אדם תאכלנו ונס לו מפני חרב ובחוריו למס יהיו	8 Assyria will fal by the sword, not that of a man, wil be devoured by the sword, of no human being, hewil flee before the sword and his young warriors will be enslaved.
9 וסלעו ממגור יעבור וחתו מנס שריו נאם יהוה אשר אור לו בציון ותנור לו בירושלם	9 In his terror he wil abandon his rock, and his panic-stricken officers desert the standard -- declaresYahweh, whose fire is in Zion, whose furnace, in Jerusalem.
