BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Le vane speranze, e le menzogne sono per lo stolto; e i sogni levano in alto gli imprudenti.	1 Empty and false are the hopes of the senseless, and fools are borne aloft by dreams.
2 Come chi abbraccia l'ombra, e corre dietro al vento; così chi bada a false visioni:	2 Like a man who catches at shadows or chases the wind, is the one who believes in dreams.
3 Le visioni de' sogni (sono) la somiglianza di una cosa; come l'immagine di un uomo dinanzi all'uomo.	3 What is seen in dreams is to reality what the reflection of a face is to the face itself.
4 Una cosa immonda a qual altra darà mondezza? e da una cosa bugiarda, che può annunziarsi di vero?	4 Can the unclean produce the clean? can the liar ever speak the truth?
5 Gli indovinamenti erronei, e gli auguri bugiardi, e i sogni de' malvagi son vanità.	5 Divination, omens and dreams all are unreal; what you already expect, the mind depicts.
6 Il tuo spirito eziandio sarà come quel di una partoriente, soggetto a' fantasmi. Non prenderti cura di tali cose, eccetto, che fosse mandata dall'Altissimo la visione;	6 Unless it be a vision specially sent by the Most High, fix not your heart on it;
7 Perocché molti furono indotti in errore dai sogni, e si perderono per aver in essi posta fidanza.	7 For dreams have led many astray, and those who believed in them have perished.
8 La parola della legge sarà perfetta, senza queste menzogne: e la sapienza sarà facile, e piena nella bocca dell'uom fedele.	8 The law is fulfilled without fail, and perfect wisdom is found in the mouth of the faithful man.
9 Chi non è stalo tentato, che sa egli? l'uomo sperimentato in molte cose, sarà molto riflessivo, e colui, che ha imparato molto, discorrerà con prudenza.	9 A man with training gains wide knowledge; a man of experience speaks sense.
10 Chi non ha sperienza, sa poche cose; ma colui, che è stato in molti luoghi, acquista molta sagacità.	10 One never put to the proof knows little, whereas with travel a man adds to his resourcefulness.
11 Chi non è stato tentato, quanto sa egli? Colui, che è stato ingannato, si fa sempre più scaltro.	11 I have seen much in my travels, learned more than ever I could say.
12 Molte cose vid'io in pellegrinando, e costumanze più di quel, ch'io possa dire.	12 Often I was in danger of death, but by these attainments I was saved.
13 Per tal cagione alcune volte mi trovai in pericoli, anche di morte, e per grazia di Dio fui liberato.	13 Lively is the courage of those who fear the LORD, for they put their hope in their savior;
14 Lo spirito di quelli, che temono Dio, è custodito, e sarà benedetto dallo sguardo di lui;	14 He who fears the LORD is never alarmed, never afraid; for the LORD is his hope.
15 Perocché la loro speranza è riposta in colui, che li salva. E gli occhi di Dio son fisi sopra color, che lo amano;	15 Happy the soul that fears the LORD! In whom does he trust, and who is his support?
16 Non tremerà, e non avrà paura di cosa alcuna colui, che teme il Signore; perché questi è sua speranza.	16 The eyes of the LORD are upon those who love him; he is their mighty shield and strong support, A shelter from the heat, a shade from the noonday sun, a guard against stumbling, a help against falling.
17 Beata l'anima di colui, che teme il Signore.	17 He buoys up the spirits, brings a sparkle to the eyes, gives health and life and blessing.
18 A chi volge egli lo sguardo, e chi è sua fortezza?	18 Tainted his gifts who offers in sacrifice ill-gotten goods! Mock presents from the lawless win not God's favor.
19 Gli occhi di Dio son fisi sopra color, che lo temono; egli il protettore possente, il presidio forte, il riparo contro gli ardori, ombreggiaamento contro la sferza del mezzodì,	19 The Most High approves not the gifts of the godless, nor for their many sacrifices does he forgive their sins.
20 Ajuto per non inciampare, soccorso nelle cadute, egli, che innalza l'anima, e gli occhi illumina, da sanità, e vita, e benedizione.	20 Like the man who slays a son in his father's presence is he who offers sacrifice from the possessions of the poor.
21 Immonda è l'obblazione di colui, che sacrifica cose di mal acquisto, e gli insulti degli uomini ingiusti non sono graditi.	21 The bread of charity is life itself for the needy; he who withholds it is a man of blood.
22 Il Signore solo (è ogni cosa) per quelli, i quali nella via della verità, e della giustizia lo aspettano con pazienza.	22 He slays his neighbor who deprives him of his living: he sheds blood who denies the laborer his wages.
23 L'Altissimo non accetta i doni degli iniqui, né volge l'occhio alle oblazioni degli iniqui, né per molti sagrifizj, che offeriscano, ei sarà propizio ai loro peccati.	23 If one man builds up and another tears down, what do they gain but trouble?
24 Chi offerisce sagrifizio della roba del povero è come uno, che scanna un figliuolo sotto gli occhi del padre.	24 If one man prays and another curses, whose voice will the LORD hear?
25 Il pane del povero egli è la sua vita; e chi glielo toglie è un uom sanguinario.	25 If a man again touches a corpse after he has bathed, what did he gain by the purification?
26 Chi ad uno toglie il pane del sudore è come chi ammazza il suo prossimo.	26 So with a man who fasts for his sins, but then goes and commits them again: Who will hear his prayer, and what has he gained by his mortification?
27 Sono fratelli colui, che sparge il sangue, e colui, che defrauda il mercenario.
28 Se uno edifica, e un altro distrugge, che guadagneranno l'uno, e l'altro, se non la fatica?
29 Se uno prega, e l'altro manda maledizioni, di chi esaudirà la voce Iddio?
30 Chi si lava per ragione di un morto, e lo tocca di bel nuovo, che giova a lui l'essersi lavato?
31 Cosi l'uom, che digiuna pe'suoi peccati, e li commette di nuovo, qual profitto cava dalla sua mortificazione? Chi esaudirà l'orazione di lui?
