1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;	1 Igualmente, vós, mulheres, sede submissas a vossos maridos, para que, se alguns não crêem na palavra, sejam ganhados pelo proceder de suas mulheres. sem a palavra,
2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.	2 considerando a vossa vida casta e cheia de respeito.
3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;	3 Não seja o vosso adorno exterior: cabelos frisados, adereços de ouro, gala e preparo dos vestidos —
4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.	4 mas (resida) no interior do vosso coração, na incorruptibilidade de uma alma doce e serena; eis o que é de grande valor diante de Deus.
5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:	5 Era também assim que outrora se adornavam as santas mulheres, que esperavam em Deus, submissas a seus mari- dos,
6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.	6 como Sara que obedecia a Abraão, chamando-lhe senhor, da qual sois filhas, se fizerdes o bem, não temendo qualquer ameaça.
7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.	7 Do mesmo modo, vós, maridos, convivei compreensivamente com vossas mulheres, seres mais fracos, tratai-as com honra, como herdeiras convosco da graça da Vida (eterna), a fim de que não sejam impedidas (na sua eficácia, pela discórdia) as vossas orações (que fazeis em comum).
8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:	8 Finalmente sede todos de um mesmo coração, compassivos, amantes dos irmãos, misericordiosos, humildes,
9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.	9 não retribuindo mal por mal, nem injúria por injúria, mas pelo contrário, bendizendo, pois para isto fostes chamados, a fim de que possuais a bênção (celeste) como herança.
10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:	10 O que quer amar a vida e viver dias felizes, refreie a sua língua do mal, e os seus lábios não prefiram engano,
11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.	11 Aparte-se do mal e faça o bem; busque a paz e vá após ela,
12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.	12 porque os olhos do Senhor estão sobre os justos, e os seus ouvidos estão atentos às suas orações, mas o seu rosto está contra os que fazem o mal Ps. 33, 13-17.
13 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?	13 E quem é que vos poderá fazer mal, se fordes zelosos pelo bem?
14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;	14 Até, se alguma coisa sofrerdes pela justiça, sereis bem-aventurados. Não temais as suas ameaças e não vos turbeis.
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:	15 Mas tratai santamente o Cristo Senhor em vossos corações, prontos sempre para responder a todo o que vos pedir razão daquela esperança que há em vós;
16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.	16 mas fazei isso com doçura e respeito, tendo uma boa consciência, para que, naquilo em que vos caluniam sejam confundidos os que difamam o vosso bom proceder em Cristo.
17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.	17 Com efeito, é melhor sofrer, se Deus assim quiser, fazendo bem, que fazendo mal,
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:	18 porque também Cristo morreu uma vez pelos nossos pecados, ele justo pelos injustos, para nos levar a Deus, sendo efetivamente morto segundo a carne, mas vivificado pelo espírito.
19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;	19 Com este mesmo espírito ele também foi pregar aos espíritos que estavam no cárcere (do Limbo),
20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.	20 os quais outrora tinham sido incrédulos, quando nos dias de Noé a paciência de Deus estava esperando (a sua conversão), enquanto se fabricava a arca, na qual um pequeno número, isto é, oito pessoas apenas se salvaram através da água.
21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:	21 Esta água prefigurava o batismo que agora vos salva, o qual não é a purificação das imundícies da carne, mas o pedido feito a Deus de uma boa consciência, graças à ressurreição de Jesus Cristo,
22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.	22 que tendo subido ao céu, está à direita de Deus, depois de ter recebido a submissão dos anjos, das dominações e das potestades.
