KING JAMES BIBLEBiblia Sagrada
Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;1 ¡Ay de los que establecen decretos inicuos, | y publican prescripciones vejatorias,
To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!2 para oprimir a los pobres en el juicio | y privar de su derecho a los humildes de mi pueblo, | haciendo de la viuda su botín | y despojando a los huérfanos!
And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?3 ¿Qué haréis cuando tengáis que rendir cuentas, | cuando la devastación llegue de lejos? | ¿A quién acudiréis buscando auxilio, | y dónde dejaréis vuestra fortuna?
Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.4 No les quedará más que encorvarse con los prisioneros | y caer entre los muertos. | Y con todo, su ira no se aplaca y su mano sigue extendida.
O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.5 ¡Ay de Asiria, vara de mi ira! | ¡Mi furor es bastón entre sus manos!
I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.6 Lo envío contra una nación impía, | lo mando contra el pueblo que provoca mi cólera, | para saquearlo y despojarlo, | para hollarlo como barro de las calles.
Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.7 Pero él no lo entiende así, | no es eso lo que piensa en su corazón, | sino exterminar, aniquilar naciones numerosas.
For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?8 Se decía: «¿No son reyes mis ministros?
Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?9 ¿No le pasó a Calnó como a Carquemis? | ¿No es Jamat como Arpad y Samaría como Damasco?
As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;10 Así como mi mano alcanzó a aquellos reinos | con más ídolos e imágenes que Jerusalén y Samaría,
Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?11 lo mismo que hice con Samaría y sus ídolos, | ¿no lo haré con Jerusalén y sus imágenes?».
Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.12 Cuando el Señor haya concluido su tarea en la montaña de Sión y en Jerusalén, pedirá cuentas de la soberbia de corazón del rey de Asiria y de la arrogancia de su mirada altanera.
For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:13 Porque se decía: «Con la fuerza de mi mano lo he hecho, | con mi saber, porque soy inteligente. | He borrado las fronteras de las naciones, | he saqueado sus tesoros | y, como un héroe, he destronado a sus señores.
And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.14 Mi mano ha alcanzado a las riquezas de los pueblos, como si fueran un nido; | como quien recoge huevos abandonados, | recogí toda su tierra. | Ninguno batió el ala, | ninguno abrió el pico para piar».
Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.15 ¿Se enorgullece el hacha contra quien corta con ella? | ¿Se gloría la sierra contra quien la mueve? | ¡Como si el bastón moviera a quien lo sostiene, | o la vara sostuviera a quien no es de madera!
Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.16 Por eso, el Señor, Dios del universo, | debilitará a los hombres vigorosos | y bajo su esplendor | encenderá un fuego abrasador.
And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;17 La luz de Israel se convertirá en fuego, | el Dios santo en llamas, | arderá y devorará en un día | sus espinos y zarzas.
And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.18 Consumirá el esplendor de su bosque y de su huerto, | de la médula a la corteza. | Será como un enfermo que se extingue.
And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.19 Árboles contados quedarán de su bosque, | un niño podría contarlos.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.20 Aquel día, el resto de Israel y los supervivientes de la casa de Jacob no volverán a apoyarse en su agresor, sino que se apoyarán con lealtad en el Señor, en el Santo de Israel.
The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.21 Un resto volverá, un resto de Jacob al Dios fuerte.
For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.22 Porque aunque fuera tu pueblo, Israel, como la arena del mar, volverá solo un resto. La destrucción decretada rebosa justicia.
For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.23 El Señor, Dios del universo, llevará a cabo en todo el país el exterminio decretado.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.24 Por ello así dice Dios, el Señor del universo: «Pueblo mío que habitas en Sión, no temas a Asiria, que te golpea con la vara, y alza su bastón contra ti, al modo de Egipto.
For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.25 Dentro de muy poco mi indignación se habrá completado y mi furor llevará a su destrucción.
And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.26 El Señor del universo agita su látigo contra él, como cuando castigó a Madián en la roca del Horeb y alzó su bastón sobre el mar en el camino de Egipto.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.27 Aquel día, su carga caerá de tus hombros y su yugo de tu cuello». El devastador sube de Rimón
He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages:28 ha llegado hasta Ayat, | atraviesa Migrón | pasa revista a las armas en Micmás.
They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.29 Han cruzado el desfiladero, | hacen noche en Gueba, | Ramá se sobresalta, | Guibeá de Saúl emprende la huida.
Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth.30 ¡Lanza gritos, Bat-Galín; | escucha, Lais; respóndele, Anatot!
Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.31 Madmená se dispersa, | los habitantes de Guebín buscan refugio,
As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.32 se detienen un día en Nob, | y ya agita su mano hacia la montaña de Sión, | hacia la colina de Jerusalén.
Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled.33 Mirad: el Señor, Dios del universo, | desgaja con violencia las copas de los árboles: | los altos troncos ya están cortados, | las ramas altas serán podadas.
And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.34 Cae bajo el hierro la espesura del bosque, | se desploma el Líbano con todo su esplendor.
