KING JAMES BIBLENEW JERUSALEM
Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?1 Why, Yahweh, do you keep so distant, stay hidden in times of trouble?
The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.2 In his pride the wicked hunts down the weak, who is caught in the schemes he devises.
For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.3 The wicked is proud of his inmost desires, by his blasphemies the grasping spurns Yahweh,
The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.4 the wicked in his arrogance does not look very far; 'There is no God,' is his only thought.
His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.5 In al circumstances his step is assured; your judgements are above his head. His rivals? He scoffs atthem al .
He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.6 He says in his heart, 'I shall never be shaken,' free of trouble himself,
His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.7 he wishes it on others. His speech is full of lies and browbeating, under his tongue lurk spite andwickedness.
He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.8 In the undergrowth he lies in ambush, in his hiding-place he murders the innocent. He watches intentlyfor the downtrodden,
He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.9 lurking unseen like a lion in his lair, lurking to pounce on the poor; he pounces on him and drags himoff in his net.
He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.10 He keeps watch, crouching down low, the poor wretch falls into his clutches;
He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.11 he says in his heart, 'God forgets, he has turned away his face to avoid seeing the end.'
Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.12 Rise, Yahweh! God, raise your hand, do not forget the afflicted!
Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it.13 Why should the wicked spurn God, assuring himself you wil never follow it up?
Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.14 You have seen for yourself the trouble and vexation, you watch so as to take it in hand. Theoppressed relies on you; you are the only recourse of the orphan.
Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none.15 Break the arm of the wicked and evil, seek out wickedness til there is none left to be found.
The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land.16 Yahweh is king for ever and ever, the heathen has vanished from his country.
LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:17 Yahweh, you listen to the laments of the poor, you give them courage, you grant them a hearing,
To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.18 to give judgement for the orphaned and exploited, so that earthborn humans may strike terror nomore.
