JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Yahvé me dit: Prends une grande tablette et écris dessus avec un stylet ordinaire: Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz.	1 The LORD said to me: Take a large cylinder-seal, and inscribe on it in ordinary letters: "Belonging to Maher-shalal-hash-baz."
2 Et prends des témoins dignes de foi, le prêtre Uriyya et Zekaryahu fils de Yebèrèkyahu.	2 And I took reliable witnesses, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah, son of Jeberechiah.
3 Puis je m'approchai de la prophétesse, elle conçut et enfanta un fils. Et Yahvé me dit: Donne-lui le nomde Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz,	3 Then I went to the prophetess and she conceived and bore a son. The LORD said to me: Name him Maher-shalal-hash-baz,
4 car avant que le garçon ne sache dire "papa" et "maman", on enlèvera la richesse de Damas et le butinde Samarie, en présence du roi d'Assur.	4 for before the child knows how to call his father or mother by name, the wealth of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be carried off by the king of Assyria.
5 Yahvé me parla encore en disant:	5 Again the LORD spoke to me:
6 Puisque ce peuple a méprisé les eaux de Siloé qui coulent doucement, et a tremblé devant Raçôn et lefils de Remalyahu,	6 Because this people has rejected the waters of Shiloah that flow gently, And melts with fear before the loftiness of Rezin and Remaliah's son,
7 eh bien! voici que le Seigneur fait monter contre lui les eaux du Fleuve, puissantes et abondantes (le roid'Assur et toute sa gloire); il grossira dans toutes ses vallées et franchira toutes ses rives;	7 Therefore the LORD raises against them the waters of the River, great and mighty (the king of Assyria and all his power). It shall rise above all its channels, and overflow all its banks;
8 il passera en Juda, inondera et traversera; il atteindra jusqu'au cou, et le déploiement de ses ailescouvrira toute l'étendue de ton pays, Emmanuel.	8 It shall pass into Judah, and flood it all throughout: up to the neck it shall reach; It shall spread its wings the full width of your land, Immanuel!
9 Sachez, peuples, et soyez épouvantés; prêtez l'oreille, tous les pays lointains. Ceignez-vous et soyezépouvantés. Ceignez-vous et soyez épouvantés.	9 Know, O peoples, and be appalled! Give ear, all you distant lands! Arm, but be crushed! Arm, but be crushed!
10 Faites un projet: il sera anéanti, prononcez une parole: elle ne tiendra pas, car "Dieu est avec nous."	10 Form a plan, and it shall be thwarted; make a resolve, and it shall not be carried out, for "With us is God!"
11 Oui, ainsi m'a parlé Yahvé lorsque sa main m'a saisi et qu'il m'a appris à ne pas suivre le chemin de cepeuple, en disant:	11 For thus said the LORD to me, taking hold of me and warning me not to walk in the way of this people:
12 "Vous n'appellerez pas complot tout ce que ce peuple appelle complot, vous ne partagerez pas sescraintes et vous n'en serez pas terrifiés.	12 Call not alliance what this people calls alliance, and fear not, nor stand in awe of what they fear.
13 C'est Yahvé Sabaot que vous proclamerez saint, c'est lui qui sera l'objet de votre crainte et de votreterreur.	13 But with the LORD of hosts make your alliance-- for him be your fear and your awe.
14 Il sera un sanctuaire, un rocher qui fait tomber, une pierre d'achoppement pour les deux maisonsd'Israël, un filet et un piège pour les habitants de Jérusalem.	14 Yet he shall be a snare, an obstacle and a stumbling stone to both the houses of Israel, A trap and a snare to those who dwell in Jerusalem;
15 Beaucoup y achopperont, tomberont et se briseront, ils seront pris au piège et capturés.	15 And many among them shall stumble and fall, broken, snared, and captured.
16 Enferme un témoignage, scelle une instruction au coeur de mes disciples."	16 The record is to be folded and the sealed instruction kept among my disciples.
17 J'espère en Yahvé qui cache sa face à la maison de Jacob, et je mets mon attente en lui.	17 For I will trust in the LORD, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob; yes, I will wait for him.
18 Voici que moi et les enfants que Yahvé m'a donnés nous devenons signes et présages en Israël, de lapart de Yahvé Sabaot qui habite sur la montagne de Sion.	18 Look at me and the children whom the Lord has given me: we are signs and portents in Israel from the LORD of hosts who dwells on Mount Zion.
19 Et si on vous dit: "Allez consulter les spectres et les devins qui murmurent et qui marmonnent", n'est-il pas vrai qu'un peuple consulte ses dieux, et les morts pour les vivants?	19 And when they say to you, "Inquire of mediums and fortune-tellers (who chirp and mutter!); should not a people inquire of their gods, apply to the dead on behalf of the living?"--
20 Pour l'instruction et le témoignage, sûrement on s'exprimera selon cette parole d'après laquelle il n'y apas d'aurore.	20 then this document will furnish its instruction. That kind of thing they will surely say.
21 Et il passera dans le pays, opprimé et affamé; il arrivera que lorsqu'il sera affamé, il s'irritera, ilmaudira son roi et son Dieu, et se tournera vers le ciel.	21
22 Puis il regardera vers la terre; et voici: angoisse, obscurité, nuit de détresse, ténèbres dissolvantes.
23 Car n'est-ce pas la nuit pour le pays qui est dans la détresse? Comme le passé a humilié le pays deZabulon et le pays de Nephtali, l'avenir glorifiera le chemin de la mer, au-delà du Jourdain, le district desnations.	23 First he degraded the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali; but in the end he has glorified the seaward road, the land West of the Jordan, the District of the Gentiles. Anguish has taken wing, dispelled is darkness; for there is no gloom where but now there was distress.
