Deuxième livre des Chroniques 28

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Achaz avait vingt ans à son avènement et il régna seize ans à Jérusalem. Il ne fit pas ce quiest agréable à Yahvé comme avait fait David son ancêtre.	1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for sixteen years inJerusalem. He did not do what Yahweh regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.
2 Il imita la conduite des rois d'Israël et même il fit fondre des idoles pour les Baals,	2 He followed the example of the kings of Israel, even having images cast for the Baals;
3 il fit fumer des offrandes dans le val des fils de Hinnom et fit passer ses fils par le feu, selonles coutumes abominables des nations que Yahvé avait chassées devant les Israélites.	3 he burned incense in the Val ey of Ben-Hinnom, caused his sons to pass through the fire of sacrifice,copying the disgusting practices of the nations whom Yahweh had dispossessed for the Israelites.
4 Il offrit des sacrifices et de l'encens sur les hauts lieux, sur les collines et sous tout arbreverdoyant.	4 He offered sacrifices and incense on the high places, on the hil s and under every green tree.
5 Yahvé son Dieu le livra aux mains du roi des Araméens. Ceux-ci le battirent et lui enlevèrentde nombreux captifs qu'ils emmenèrent à Damas. Il fut livré aussi aux mains du roi d'Israël, qui lui infligea unelourde défaite.	5 So Yahweh his God put him at the mercy of the king of Aram, who defeated him and took largenumbers of captives, carrying them off to Damascus. He also put him at the mercy of the king of Israel, whoinflicted heavy casualties on him.
6 Péqah, fils de Remalyahu, tua en un seul jour 120.000 hommes en Juda, tous vaillants, pouravoir abandonné Yahvé, le Dieu de leurs pères.	6 In a single day, Pekah son of Remaliah kil ed a hundred and twenty thousand in Judah, al of themprominent men, because they had abandoned Yahweh, God of their ancestors.
7 Zikri, héros éphraïmite, tua Maaséyahu, fils du roi, Azriqam, chef du palais, et Elqana, lelieutenant du roi.	7 Zichri, an Ephraimite champion, killed Maaseiah the king's son, Azrikam the control er of thehousehold and Elkanah the king's second-in-command.
8 Les Israélites firent à leurs frères 200.000 prisonniers, femmes, fils et filles; ils razzièrent deplus un important butin et emmenèrent le tout à Samarie.	8 Of their brothers, the Israelites took two hundred thousand captive including wives, sons, daughters;they also took quantities of booty, carrying everything off to Samaria.
9 Il y avait là un prophète de Yahvé nommé Oded. Il sortit au-devant des troupes qui arrivaientà Samarie et leur dit: "Voici que Yahvé, le Dieu de vos pères, a livré les Judéens entre vos mains parce qu'il étaitirrité contre eux, mais vous les avez massacrés avec une telle fureur que le ciel en est atteint.	9 Now there was a prophet of Yahweh there by the name of Oded, who went out to meet the troopsreturning to Samaria and said, 'Look, because Yahweh, God of your ancestors, was angry with Judah, he putthem at your mercy, but you have slaughtered them with such fury as reached to heaven,
10 Et vous parlez maintenant de réduire les enfants de Juda et de Jérusalem à devenir vosserviteurs et vos servantes! Mais vous-mêmes, n'êtes-vous pas coupables envers Yahvé votre Dieu?	10 and now you propose to reduce the children of Judah and Jerusalem to being your male and femaleslaves! Have you not yourselves committed sins against Yahweh your God?
11 Ecoutez-moi maintenant, rendez les prisonniers faits à vos frères, car l'ardente colère deYahvé vous menace."	11 Now listen to me: release the captives you have taken from your brothers, for the fierce anger ofYahweh hangs over you.'
12 Certains des chefs éphraïmites, Azaryahu fils de Yehohanân, Bérékyahu fils deMeshillemot, Yehizqiyyahu fils de Shallum, Amasa fils de Hadlaï, s'élevèrent alors contre ceux qui revenaientde l'expédition.	12 Some of the Ephraimite chieftains -- Azariah son of Jehohanan, Berechaiah son of Meshil emoth,Jehizkiah son of Shal um and Amasa son of Hadlai -- then protested to those returning from the war
13 Ils leur dirent: "Vous ne ferez pas entrer ici ces prisonniers, car c'est de nous rendrecoupables envers Yahvé que vous parlez, c'est d'ajouter à nos péchés et à nos fautes, alors que notre culpabilitéest énorme et qu'une ardente colère menace Israël."	13 and said to them, 'You must not bring the captives here, for we have already sinned against Yahwehand you propose to add to our sin and guilt, although our guilt is already great, and fierce anger is hanging overIsrael.'
14 L'armée abandonna alors les prisonniers et le butin en présence des officiers et de toutel'assemblée.	14 So in the presence of the officials and whole assembly, the soldiers gave up the captives and thebooty.
15 Des hommes, qui avaient été nominativement désignés, se mirent à réconforter lesprisonniers. Prélevant sur le butin, ils habillèrent tous ceux qui étaient nus; ils les vêtirent, les chaussèrent, lesnourrirent, les désaltérèrent et les abritèrent. Puis il les reconduisirent, les éclopés montés sur des ânes, et lesamenèrent auprès de leurs frères à Jéricho, la ville des palmiers. Puis ils rentrèrent à Samarie.	15 Men nominated for the purpose then took charge of the captives. From the booty they clothed althose of them who were naked; they gave them clothing and sandals, provided them with food and drink,mounted on donkeys al those who were infirm and took them back to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to theirbrothers. Then they returned to Samaria.
16 C'est alors que le roi Achaz envoya demander au roi d'Assyrie de lui porter secours.	16 This was when King Ahaz sent asking the king of Assyria to come to his assistance.
17 Les Edomites envahirent de nouveau Juda, le battirent et emmenèrent des prisonniers.	17 The Edomites again invaded, defeated Judah, and carried off captives,
18 Les Philistins se répandirent dans les villes du Bas-Pays et du Négeb de Juda. Ils prirentBet-Shémesh, Ayyalôn, Gedérot, Soko et ses dépendances, Timna et ses dépendances, Gimzo et sesdépendances, et s'y établirent.	18 while the Philistines raided the towns in the lowlands and in the Negeb of Judah, capturing Beth-Shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Soco and its dependencies, Timnah and its dependencies and Gimzo and itsdependencies, and settled there.
19 Yahvé abaissa en effet Juda à cause d'Achaz, roi d'Israël, qui laissait aller Juda et étaitinfidèle à Yahvé.	19 For Yahweh brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel, since he behaved without restraint inJudah and had been unfaithful to Yahweh.
20 Téglat-Phalasar, roi d'Assyrie, l'attaqua et l'assiégea sans pouvoir l'emporter;	20 Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria attacked and besieged him; but he could not overpower him.
21 mais Achaz dut prélever une part des biens du Temple de Yahvé et des maisons royale etprincières, pour les envoyer au roi d'Assyrie, sans recevoir secours de lui.	21 Although Ahaz robbed the Temple of Yahweh and the palaces of the king and princes and gave theproceeds to the king of Assyria, he received no help from him.
22 Tandis qu'il était assiégé, il accrut son infidélité envers Yahvé, lui, le roi Achaz,	22 During the time when he was under siege he disobeyed Yahweh even more grossly, this King Ahaz.
23 en offrant des sacrifices aux dieux de Damas dont il était la victime: "Puisque les dieux desrois d'Aram leur prêtent main-forte, disait-il, je leur sacrifierai pour qu'ils m'aident." Mais ce furent eux quicausèrent sa chute, et celle de tout Israël.	23 For he offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus who had defeated him. 'Since the gods of thekings of Aram', he thought, 'have supported them, I shal sacrifice to them, and perhaps they will help me.' Butthey proved to be his and al Israel's downfal .
24 Achaz rassembla le mobilier du Temple de Dieu, il le mit en pièces, ferma les portes duTemple de Yahvé et se fit des autels à tous les coins de rue de Jérusalem;	24 Ahaz then collected the equipment of the Temple of God, broke up the equipment of the Temple ofGod, sealed the doors of the Temple of Yahweh and put his own altars in every corner of Jerusalem;
25 il institua des hauts lieux dans toutes les cités judéennes pour y encenser d'autres dieux, etprovoqua l'irritation de Yahvé, le Dieu de ses pères.	25 he set up high places in every town of Judah to burn incense to other gods, thus provoking the angerof Yahweh, God of his ancestors.
26 Le reste de son histoire et de toute sa politique, du début à la fin, est écrit dans le livre desRois de Juda et d'Israël.	26 The rest of his history, his whole policy, from first to last, is recorded in the Book of the Kings ofJudah and Israel.
27 Achaz se coucha avec ses pères, on l'enterra dans la Cité, à Jérusalem, sans le transporterdans les tombeaux des rois d'Israël. Son fils Ezéchias régna à sa place.	27 Then Ahaz fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the City, in Jerusalem, though he was nottaken to the tombs of the kings of Israel. His son Hezekiah succeeded him.
