Deuxième livre de Samuel 7

JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Quand le roi habita sa maison et que Yahvé l'eut débarrassé de tous les ennemis qui l'entouraient,	1 When King David was settled in his palace, and the LORD had given him rest from his enemies on every side,
2 le roi dit au prophète Natân: "Vois donc! J'habite une maison de cèdre et l'arche de Dieu habitesous la tente!"	2 he said to Nathan the prophet, "Here I am living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God dwells in a tent!"
3 Natân répondit au roi: "Va et fais tout ce qui te tient à coeur, car Yahvé est avec toi."	3 Nathan answered the king, "Go, do whatever you have in mind, for the LORD is with you."
4 Mais, cette même nuit, la parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Natân en ces termes:	4 But that night the LORD spoke to Nathan and said:
5 "Va dire à mon serviteur David: Ainsi parle Yahvé. Est-ce toi qui me construiras une maison pourque j'y habite?	5 "Go, tell my servant David, 'Thus says the LORD: Should you build me a house to dwell in?
6 Je n'ai jamais habité de maison depuis le jour où j'ai fait monter d'Egypte les Israélitesjusqu'aujourd'hui, mais j'étais en camp volant sous une tente et un abri.	6 I have not dwelt in a house from the day on which I led the Israelites out of Egypt to the present, but I have been going about in a tent under cloth.
7 Pendant tout le temps où j'ai voyagé avec tous les Israélites, ai-je dit à un seul des juges d'Israël,que j'avais institués comme pasteurs de mon peuple Israël: Pourquoi ne me bâtissez-vous pas une maison decèdre?	7 In all my wanderings everywhere among the Israelites, did I ever utter a word to any one of the judges whom I charged to tend my people Israel, to ask: Why have you not built me a house of cedar?'
8 Voici maintenant ce que tu diras à mon serviteur David: Ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot. C'est moi quit'ai pris au pâturage, derrière les brebis, pour être chef de mon peuple Israël.	8 "Now then, speak thus to my servant David, 'The LORD of hosts has this to say: It was I who took you from the pasture and from the care of the flock to be commander of my people Israel.
9 J'ai été avec toi partout où tu allais; j'ai supprimé devant toi tous tes ennemis. Je te donnerai ungrand nom comme le nom des plus grands de la terre.	9 I have been with you wherever you went, and I have destroyed all your enemies before you. And I will make you famous like the great ones of the earth.
10 Je fixerai un lieu à mon peuple Israël, je l'y planterai, il demeurera en cette place, il ne sera plusballotté et les méchants ne continueront pas à l'opprimer comme auparavant,	10 I will fix a place for my people Israel; I will plant them so that they may dwell in their place without further disturbance. Neither shall the wicked continue to afflict them as they did of old,
11 depuis le temps où j'instituais des juges sur mon peuple Israël; je te débarrasserai de tous tesennemis. Yahvé t'annonce qu'il te fera une maison.	11 since the time I first appointed judges over my people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies. The LORD also reveals to you that he will establish a house for you.
12 Et quand tes jours seront accomplis et que tu seras couché avec tes pères, je maintiendrai aprèstoi le lignage issu de tes entrailles (et j'affermirai sa royauté.	12 And when your time comes and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your heir after you, sprung from your loins, and I will make his kingdom firm.
13 C'est lui qui construira une maison pour mon Nom) et j'affermirai pour toujours son trône royal.	13 It is he who shall build a house for my name. And I will make his royal throne firm forever.
14 Je serai pour lui un père et il sera pour moi un fils: s'il commet le mal, je le châtierai avec uneverge d'homme et par les coups que donnent les humains.	14 I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. And if he does wrong, I will correct him with the rod of men and with human chastisements;
15 Mais ma faveur ne lui sera pas retirée comme je l'ai retirée à Saül, que j'ai écarté de devant toi.	15 but I will not withdraw my favor from him as I withdrew it from your predecessor Saul, whom I removed from my presence.
16 Ta maison et ta royauté subsisteront à jamais devant moi, ton trône sera affermi à jamais."	16 Your house and your kingdom shall endure forever before me; your throne shall stand firm forever.'"
17 Natân communiqua à David toutes ces paroles et toute cette révélation.	17 Nathan reported all these words and this entire vision to David.
18 Alors le roi David entra et s'assit devant Yahvé, et il dit: "Qui suis-je, Seigneur Yahvé, et quelleest ma maison, pour que tu m'aies mené jusque là?	18 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD and said, "Who am I, Lord GOD, and who are the members of my house, that you have brought me to this point?
19 Mais cela est encore trop peu à tes yeux, Seigneur Yahvé, et tu étends aussi tes promesses à lamaison de ton serviteur pour un lointain avenir. Voilà le destin de l'homme, Seigneur Yahvé.	19 Yet even this you see as too little, Lord GOD; you have also spoken of the house of your servant for a long time to come: this too you have shown to man, Lord GOD!
20 Que David pourrait-il te dire de plus, alors que tu as toi-même distingué ton serviteur, SeigneurYahvé!	20 What more can David say to you? You know your servant, Lord GOD!
21 A cause de ta parole et selon ton coeur, tu as eu cette magnificence d'instruire ton serviteur.	21 For your servant's sake and as you have had at heart, you have brought about this entire magnificent disclosure to your servant.
22 C'est pourquoi tu es grand, Seigneur Yahvé: il n'y a personne comme toi et il n'y a pas d'autreDieu que toi seul, comme l'ont appris nos oreilles.	22 And so-- "Great are you, Lord GOD! There is none like you and there is no God but you, just as we have heard it told.
23 Y a-t-il, comme ton peuple Israël, un autre peuple sur la terre qu'un dieu soit allé racheter pour enfaire son peuple, pour le rendre fameux et opérer en sa faveur de grandes et terribles choses en chassant devantson peuple des nations et des dieux?	23 What other nation on earth is there like your people Israel, which God has led, redeeming it as his people; so that you have made yourself renowned by doing this magnificent deed, and by doing awe-inspiring things as you cleared nations and their gods out of the way of your people, which you redeemed for yourself from Egypt?
24 Tu as établi ton peuple Israël pour qu'il soit à jamais ton peuple, et toi, Yahvé, tu es devenu sonDieu.	24 You have established for yourself your people Israel as yours forever, and you, LORD, have become their God.
25 Maintenant, Yahvé Dieu, garde toujours la promesse que tu as faite à ton serviteur et à sa maisonet agis comme tu l'as dit.	25 And now, LORD God, confirm for all time the prophecy you have made concerning your servant and his house, and do as you have promised.
26 Ton nom sera exalté à jamais et l'on dira: Yahvé Sabaot est Dieu sur Israël. La maison de tonserviteur David subsistera en ta présence.	26 Your name will be forever great, when men say, 'The LORD of hosts is God of Israel,' and the house of your servant David stands firm before you.
27 Car c'est toi, Yahvé Sabaot, Dieu d'Israël, qui as fait cette révélation à ton serviteur: Je te bâtiraiune maison. Aussi ton serviteur a-t-il trouvé le courage de te faire cette prière.	27 It is you, LORD of hosts, God of Israel, who said in a revelation to your servant, 'I will build a house for you.' Therefore your servant now finds the courage to make this prayer to you.
28 Oui, Seigneur Yahvé, c'est toi qui es Dieu, tes paroles sont vérité et tu fais cette belle promesse àton serviteur.	28 And now, Lord GOD, you are God and your words are truth; you have made this generous promise to your servant.
29 Consens donc à bénir la maison de ton serviteur, pour qu'elle demeure toujours en ta présence.Car c'est toi, Seigneur Yahvé, qui as parlé, et par ta bénédiction la maison de ton serviteur sera bénie à jamais."	29 Do, then, bless the house of your servant that it may be before you forever; for you, Lord GOD, have promised, and by your blessing the house of your servant shall be blessed forever."
