1 Jesus therefore, six days before the pasch, came to Bethania, where Lazarus had been dead, whom Jesus raised to life.	1 Six jours avant la Pâque, Jésus vint à Béthanie, là où était Lazare, celui que Jésus avait fait se lever d’entre les morts.
2 And they made him a supper there: and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that were at table with him.	2 Là on lui prépara un dîner; Marthe faisait le service et Lazare était l’un des convives aux côtés de Jésus.
3 Mary therefore took a pound of ointment of right spikenard, of great price, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.	3 Or voici que Marie prend un flacon de parfum, du vrai nard extrêmement cher, et elle le verse sur les pieds de Jésus; puis elle lui essuie les pieds avec ses cheveux pendant que l’odeur du parfum remplit la maison.
4 Then one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, he that was about to betray him, said:	4 Intervient alors Judas Iscariote, l’un des disciples de Jésus, celui qui va le trahir:
5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?	5 "On aurait pu vendre ce parfum pour 300 pièces d’argent, dit-il, et on l’aurait donné aux pauvres.”
6 Now he said this, not because he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and having the purse, carried the things that were put therein.	6 En réalité, Judas ne se souciait pas des pauvres, mais il volait; comme il portait la bourse du groupe, tout ce qu’on y mettait passait par ses mains.
7 Jesus therefore said: Let her alone, that she may keep it against the day of my burial.	7 Mais Jésus dit: "Ne lui reproche pas d’avoir gardé ce parfum pour le jour de mon enterrement.
8 For the poor you have always with you; but me you have not always.	8 Vous avez toujours des pauvres parmi vous, mais moi vous ne m’aurez pas toujours.”
9 A great multitude therefore of the Jews knew that he was there; and they came, not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.	9 Beaucoup de Juifs apprirent que Jésus était là, et ils vinrent pour lui, bien sûr, mais aussi pour voir Lazare qu’il avait fait se lever d’entre les morts.
10 But the chief priests thought to kill Lazarus also:	10 C’est alors que les grands prêtres pensèrent à tuer aussi Lazare,
11 Because many of the Jews, by reason of him, went away, and believed in Jesus.	11 car beaucoup de Juifs les quittaient à cause de lui et croyaient en Jésus.
12 And on the next day, a great multitude that was to come to the festival day, when they had heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,	12 Le lendemain, beaucoup de ceux qui étaient venus pour la fête apprirent que Jésus venait à Jérusalem.
13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried: Hosanna, blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, the king of Israel.	13 Ils prirent des palmes et vinrent à sa rencontre en criant: “Hosanna, béni soit celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur, c’est lui le roi d’Israël!”
14 And Jesus found a young ass, and sat upon it, as it is written:	14 Jésus avait trouvé un âne encore jeune, et il monta dessus, comme le dit l’Écriture:
15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy king cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.	15 Ne crains pas, Sion, ô ma fille, voici que ton roi vient à toi, monté sur le petit d’une ânesse.
16 These things his disciples did not know at the first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things to him.	16 Les disciples au début n’y pensèrent pas. Mais lorsque Jésus entra dans sa gloire, ils se souvinrent qu’ils avaient fait pour lui cela-même, et que ç’avait été écrit pour lui.
17 The multitude therefore gave testimony, which was with him, when he called Lazarus out of the grave, and raised him from the dead.	17 Tout le peuple qui était auprès de Jésus quand il avait appelé Lazare dans sa tombe et l’avait réveillé d’entre les morts, rendait témoignage.
18 For which reason also the people came to meet him, because they heard that he had done this miracle.	18 C’est donc une foule qui vint l’accueillir, parce qu’on leur avait parlé de ce signe que Jésus avait fait.
19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves: Do you see that we prevail nothing? behold, the whole world is gone after him.	19 Voyant cela, les Pharisiens se dirent entre eux: "Regardez, nous n’arrivons à rien; le monde entier court après lui!”
20 Now there were certain Gentiles among them, who came up to adore on the festival day.	20 Il y avait là des Grecs qui étaient venus à la fête pour adorer.
21 These therefore came to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying: Sir, we would see Jesus.	21 Ils vinrent trouver Philippe, qui était de Bethsaïde en Galilée, et ils lui firent cette demande: "S’il vous plaît, nous voudrions voir Jésus.”
22 Philip cometh, and telleth Andrew. Again Andrew and Philip told Jesus.	22 Philippe vient en parler à André, et André part avec Philippe pour le dire à Jésus.
23 But Jesus answered them, saying: The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.	23 Alors Jésus déclare: "L’heure est venue où le Fils de l’Homme va être glorifié.
24 Amen, amen I say to you, unless the grain of wheat falling into the ground die,	24 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis: si le grain de blé ne tombe pas en terre pour y mourir, il reste seul. C’est quand il meurt qu’il porte beaucoup de fruits.
25 Itself remaineth alone. But if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world, keepeth it unto life eternal.	25 Celui qui tient à sa vie la détruit, mais celui qui méprise sa vie dans ce monde la sauvegarde pour la vie éternelle.
26 If any man minister to me, let him follow me; and where I am, there also shall my minister be. If any man minister to me, him will my Father honour.	26 Si quelqu’un veut me servir, qu’il me suive, et là où je suis, là aussi sera mon serviteur; si quelqu’un me sert, le Père saura le récompenser.
27 Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause I came unto this hour.	27 “Maintenant je suis dans un grand trouble. Je pourrais dire: Père, épargne-moi cette épreuve! Mais je suis venu précisément pour connaître cette heure.
28 Father, glorify thy name. A voice therefore came from heaven: I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.	28 Père, glorifie ton Nom!” À ce moment une réponse vint du ciel: "Je l’ai glorifié et je le glorifierai encore.”
29 The multitude therefore that stood and heard, said that it thundered. Others said: An angel spoke to him.	29 Les gens qui étaient là et qui avaient entendu, disaient: "C’est le tonnerre.” D’autres disaient: "Un ange lui a parlé.”
30 Jesus answered, and said: This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.	30 Alors Jésus déclara: "Cette réponse était pour vous et non pour moi.
31 Now is the judgment of the world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.	31 C’est maintenant le jugement de ce monde: le Prince de ce monde va être jeté dehors.
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all things to myself.	32 Et moi, dès que j’aurai été élevé de terre, j’attirerai tout à moi.”
33 (Now this he said, signifying what death he should die.)	33 En disant cela, Jésus faisait allusion au genre de supplice par lequel il allait mourir.
34 The multitude answered him: We have heard out of the law, that Christ abideth for ever; and how sayest thou: The Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man?	34 Aussi lui dit-on dans la foule: "Nous avons appris dans la Loi que le Messie demeure à jamais. Et toi, tu dis que le Fils de l’Homme doit être élevé? Qui est ce Fils de l’Homme?”
35 Jesus therefore said to them: Yet a little while, the light is among you. Walk whilst you have the light, that the darkness overtake you not. And he that walketh in darkness, knoweth not whither he goeth.	35 Jésus leur dit: "La lumière est avec vous pour peu de temps encore. Marchez tant que vous avez la lumière, ne vous laissez pas surprendre par la nuit. Marcher de nuit, c’est ne pas savoir où l’on va.
36 Whilst you have the light, believe in the light, that you may be the children of light. These things Jesus spoke; and he went away, and hid himself from them.	36 Lorsque vous avez la lumière, croyez à la lumière et soyez fils de la lumière.” Telles furent les paroles de Jésus. Ensuite il les quitta et ne se montra plus.
37 And whereas he had done so many miracles before them, they believed not in him:	37 Il avait fait tant de signes sous leurs yeux et ils ne croyaient pas en lui!
38 That the saying of Isaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said: Lord, who hath believed our hearing? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?	38 C’est que les paroles du prophète Isaïe devaient s’accomplir: Seigneur, qui a cru à notre message? Les interventions du Seigneur sont restées un mystère pour tous.
39 Therefore they could not believe, because Isaias said again:	39 Ils ne pouvaient pas croire; Isaïe l’a dit en un autre passage:
40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart, that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.	40 Il a rendu leurs yeux aveugles, il a engourdi leur intelligence, pour que leurs yeux ne voient pas, pour que leur intelligence ne comprenne pas et qu’ils ne se convertissent pas: autrement je les aurais guéris!
41 These things said Isaias, when he saw his glory, and spoke of him.	41 Ce sont les paroles d’Isaïe; car il a vu sa gloire et il a parlé de lui.
42 However, many of the chief men also believed in him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, that they might not be cast out of the synagogue.	42 Il est vrai que, même parmi les chefs, un certain nombre crurent en lui, mais ils ne le dirent pas ouvertement pour ne pas être exclus de la communauté, car ils avaient peur des Pharisiens.
43 For they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God.	43 Ils voulaient être bien considérés par les hommes plutôt que par Dieu.
44 But Jesus cried, and said: He that believeth in me, doth not believe in me, but in him that sent me.	44 Or Jésus a dit bien haut: "Celui qui croit en moi ne croit pas seulement en moi, mais en celui qui m’a envoyé.
45 And he that seeth me, seeth him that sent me.	45 Celui qui me voit, voit celui qui m’a envoyé.
46 I am come a light into the world; that whosoever believeth in me, may not remain in darkness.	46 “Je suis venu dans le monde comme une lumière, pour que l’on croie en moi et qu’on sorte des ténèbres.
47 And if any man hear my words, and keep them not, I do not judge him: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.	47 Si quelqu’un entend mes paroles et ne les garde pas, ce n’est pas moi qui le condamne, car je ne suis pas venu pour condamner le monde mais pour le sauver.
48 He that despiseth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him; the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.	48 Pourtant le juge est là pour celui qui me méprise et ne reçoit pas mon message, c’est la parole que j’ai dite. Elle le jugera au dernier jour.
49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father who sent me, he gave me commandment what I should say, and what I should speak.	49 “Je n’ai pas parlé de moi-même; le Père, lorsqu’il m’a envoyé, m’a ordonné ce que je dois dire et comment le dire;
50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting. The things therefore that I speak, even as the Father said unto me, so do I speak.	50 et je sais que ses ordres sont vie éternelle. Ainsi, quand je parle, je parle comme le Père me l’a demandé.”
