DOUAI-RHEIMSBIBLIA
And going out from thence, he went into his own country; and his disciples followed him.1 Salió de allí y vino a su patria, y sus discípulos le siguen.
And when the sabbath was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were in admiration at his doctrine, saying: How came this man by all these things? and what wisdom is this that is given to him, and such mighty works as are wrought by his hands?2 Cuando llegó el sábado se puso a enseñar en la sinagoga. La multitud, al oírle, quedaba maravillada, y decía: «¿De dónde le viene esto? y ¿qué sabiduría es ésta que le ha sido dada? ¿Y esos milagros hechos por sus manos?
Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joseph, and Jude, and Simon? are not also his sisters here with us? And they were scandalized in regard of him.3 ¿No es éste el carpintero, el hijo de María y hermano de Santiago, Joset, Judas y Simón? ¿Y no están sus hermanas aquí entre nosotros?» Y se escandalizaban a causa de él.
And Jesus said to them: A prophet is not without honor, but in his own country, and in his own house, and among his own kindred.4 Jesús les dijo: «Un profeta sólo en su patria, entre sus parientes y en su casa carece de prestigio».
And he could not do any miracles there, only that he cured a few that were sick, laying his hands upon them.5 Y no podía hacer allí ningún milagro, a excepción de unos pocos enfermos a quienes curó imponiéndoles las manos.
And he wondered because of their unbelief, and he went through the villages round about teaching.6 Y se maravilló de su falta de fe. Y recorría los pueblos del contorno enseñando.
And he called the twelve; and began to send them two and two, and gave them power over unclean spirits.7 Y llama a los Doce y comenzó a enviarlos de dos en dos, dándoles poder sobre los espíritus inmundos.
And he commanded them that they should take nothing for the way, but a staff only: no scrip, no bread, nor money in their purse,8 Les ordenó que nada tomasen para el camino, fuera de un bastón: ni pan, ni alforja, ni calderilla en la faja;
But to be shod with sandals, and that they should not put on two coats.9 sino: «Calzados con sandalias y no vistáis dos túnicas».
And he said to them: Wheresoever you shall enter into an house, there abide till you depart from that place.10 Y les dijo: «Cuando entréis en una casa, quedaos en ella hasta marchar de allí.
And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you; going forth from thence, shake off the dust from your feet for a testimony to them.11 Si algún lugar no os recibe y no os escuchan, marchaos de allí sacudiendo el polvo de la planta de vuestros pies, en testimonio contra ellos».
And going forth they preached that men should do penance:12 Y, yéndose de allí, predicaron que se convirtieran;
And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.13 expulsaban a muchos demonios, y ungían con aceite a muchos enfermos y los curaban.
And king Herod heard, (for his name was made manifest,) and he said: John the Baptist is risen again from the dead, and therefore mighty works shew forth themselves in him.14 Se enteró el rey Herodes, pues su nombre se había hecho célebre. Algunos decían: «Juan el Bautista ha resucitado de entre los muertos y por eso actúan en él fuerzas milagrosas».
And others said: It is Elias. But others said: It is a prophet, as one of the prophets.15 Otros decían: «Es Elías»; otros: «Es un profeta como los demás profetas».
Which Herod hearing, said: John whom I beheaded, he is risen again from the dead.16 Al enterarse Herodes, dijo: «Aquel Juan, a quien yo decapité, ése ha resucitado».
For Herod himself had sent and apprehended John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias the wife of Philip his brother, because he had married her.17 Es que Herodes era el que había enviado a prender a Juan y le había encadenado en la cárcel por causa de Herodías, la mujer de su hermano Filipo, con quien Herodes se había casado.
For John said to Herod: It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.18 Porque Juan decía a Herodes: «No te está permitido tener la mujer de tu hermano».
Now Herodias laid snares for him: and was desirous to put him to death, and could not.19 Herodías le aborrecía y quería matarle, pero no podía,
For Herod feared John, knowing him to be a just and holy man: and kept him, and when he heard him, did many things: and he heard him willingly.20 pues Herodes temía a Juan, sabiendo que era hombre justo y santo, y le protegía; y al oírle, quedaba muy perplejo, y le escuchaba con gusto.
And when a convenient day was come, Herod made a supper for his birthday, for the princes, and tribunes, and chief men of Galilee.21 Y llegó el día oportuno, cuando Herodes, en su cumpleaños, dio un banquete a sus magnates, a los tribunos y a los principales de Galilea.
And when the daughter of the same Herodias had come in, and had danced, and pleased Herod, and them that were at table with him, the king said to the damsel: Ask of me what thou wilt, and I will give it thee.22 Entró la hija de la misma Herodías, danzó, y gustó mucho a Herodes y a los comensales. El rey, entonces, dijo a la muchacha: «Pídeme lo que quieras y te lo daré».
And he swore to her: Whatsoever thou shalt ask I will give thee, though it be the half of my kingdom.23 Y le juró: «Te daré lo que me pidas, hasta la mitad de mi reino».
Who when she was gone out, said to her mother, What shall I ask? But she said: The head of John the Baptist.24 Salió la muchacha y preguntó a su madre: «¿Qué voy a pedir?» Y ella le dijo: «La cabeza de Juan el Bautista».
And when she was come in immediately with haste to the king, she asked, saying: I will that forthwith thou give me in a dish, the head of John the Baptist.25 Entrando al punto apresuradamente adonde estaba el rey, le pidió: «Quiero que ahora mismo me des, en una bandeja, la cabeza de Juan el Bautista».
And the king was struck sad. Yet because of his oath, and because of them that were with him at table, he would not displease her:26 El rey se llenó de tristeza, pero no quiso desairarla a causa del juramento y de los comensales.
But sending an executioner, he commanded that his head should be brought in a dish.27 Y al instante mandó el rey a uno de su guardia, con orden de traerle la cabeza de Juan. Se fue y le decapitó en la cárcel
And he beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head in a dish: and gave it to the damsel, and the damsel gave it to her mother.28 y trajo su cabeza en una bandeja, y se la dio a la muchacha, y la muchacha se la dio a su madre.
Which his disciples hearing came, and took his body, and laid it in a tomb.29 Al enterarse sus discípulos, vinieron a recoger el cadáver y le dieron sepultura.
And the apostles coming together unto Jesus, related to him all things that they had done and taught.30 Los apóstoles se reunieron con Jesús y le contaron todo lo que habían hecho y lo que habían enseñado.
And he said to them: Come apart into a desert place, and rest a little. For there were many coming and going: and they had not so much as time to eat.31 El, entonces, les dice: «Venid también vosotros aparte, a un lugar solitario, para descansar un poco». Pues los que iban y venían eran muchos, y no les quedaba tiempo ni para comer.
And going up into a ship, they went into a desert place apart.32 Y se fueron en la barca, aparte, a un lugar solitario.
And they saw them going away, and many knew: and they ran flocking thither on foot from all the cities, and were there before them.33 Pero les vieron marcharse y muchos cayeron en cuenta; y fueron allá corriendo, a pie, de todas las ciudades y llegaron antes que ellos.
And Jesus going out saw a great multitude: and he had compassion on them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things.34 Y al desembarcar, vio mucha gente, sintió compasión de ellos, pues estaban como ovejas que no tienen pastor, y se puso a enseñarles muchas cosas.
And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came to him, saying: This is a desert place, and the hour is now past:35 Era ya una hora muy avanzada cuando se le acercaron sus discípulos y le dijeron: «El lugar está deshabitado y ya es hora avanzada.
Send them away, that going into the next villages and towns, they may buy themselves meat to eat.36 Despídelos para que vayan a las aldeas y pueblos del contorno a comprarse de comer».
And he answering said to them: Give you them to eat. And they said to him: Let us go and buy bread for two hundred pence, and we will give them to eat.37 El les contestó: «Dadles vosotros de comer». Ellos le dicen: «¿Vamos nosotros a comprar doscientos denarios de pan para darles de comer?»
And he saith to them: How many loaves have you? go and see. And when they knew, they say: Five, and two fishes38 El les dice: «¿Cuántos panes tenéis? Id a ver». Después de haberse cerciorado, le dicen: «Cinco, y dos peces».
And he commanded them that they should make them all sit down by companies upon the green grass.39 Entonces les mandó que se acomodaran todos por grupos sobre la verde hierba.
And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds and by fifties.40 Y se acomodaron por grupos de cien y de cincuenta.
And when he had taken the five loaves, and the two fishes: looking up to heaven, he blessed, and broke the loaves, and gave to his disciples to set before them: and the two fishes he divided among them all.41 Y tomando los cinco panes y los dos peces, y levantando los ojos al cielo, pronunció la bendición, partió los panes y los iba dando a los discípulos para que se los fueran sirviendo. También repartió entre todos los dos peces.
And they all did eat, and had their fill.42 Comieron todos y se saciaron.
And they took up the leavings, twelve full baskets of fragments, and of the fishes.43 Y recogieron las sobras, doce canastos llenos y también lo de los peces.
And they that did eat, were five thousand men.44 Los que comieron los panes fueron 5.000 hombres.
And immediately he obliged his disciples to go up into the ship, that they might go before him over the water to Bethsaida, whilst he dismissed the people.45 Inmediatamente obligó a sus discípulos a subir a la barca y a ir por delante hacia Betsaida, mientras él despedía a la gente.
And when he had dismissed them, he went up to the mountain to pray.46 Después de despedirse de ellos, se fue al monte a orar.
And when it was late, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and himself alone on the land.47 Al atardecer, estaba la barca en medio del mar y él, solo, en tierra.
And seeing them labouring in rowing, (for the wind was against them,) and about the fourth watch of the night, he cometh to them walking upon the sea, and he would have passed by them.48 Viendo que ellos se fatigaban remando, pues el viento les era contrario, a eso de la cuarta vigilia de la noche viene hacia ellos caminando sobre el mar y quería pasarles de largo.
But they seeing him walking upon the sea, thought it was an apparition, and they cried out.49 Pero ellos viéndole caminar sobre el mar, creyeron que era un fantasma y se pusieron a gritar,
For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he spoke with them, and said to them: Have a good heart, it is I, fear ye not.50 pues todos le habían visto y estaban turbados. Pero él, al instante, les habló, diciéndoles: «¡Animo!, que soy yo, no temáis».
And he went up to them into the ship, and the wind ceased: and they were far more astonished within themselves:51 Subió entonces donde ellos a la barca, y amainó el viento, y quedaron en su interior completamente estupefactos,
For they understood not concerning the loaves; for their heart was blinded.52 pues no habían entendido lo de los panes, sino que su mente estaba embotada.
And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Genezareth, and set to the shore.53 Terminada la travesía, llegaron a tierra en Genesaret y atracaron.
And when they were gone out of the ship, immediately they knew him:54 Apenas desembarcaron, le reconocieron en seguida,
And running through that whole country, they began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.55 recorrieron toda aquella región y comenzaron a traer a los enfermos en camillas adonde oían que él estaba.
And whithersoever he entered, into towns or into villages or cities, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch but the hem of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.56 Y dondequiera que entraba, en pueblos, ciudades o aldeas, colocaban a los enfermos en las plazas y le pedían que tocaran siquiera la orla de su manto; y cuantos la tocaron quedaban salvados.
