Sirach 32

1 Have they made thee ruler? be not lifted up: be among them as one of them.	1 S'elli ti feciono loro rettore, non insuperbire; sia con coloro sì come uno di loro.
2 Have care of them, and so sit down, and when thou hast acquitted thyself of all thy charge, take thy place :	2 ... in tal guisa considera, e con ogni sollecitudine ti sforza di fare,
3 That thou mayst rejoice for them, and receive a crown as an ornament of grace, and get the honour of the contribution.	3 che tu allegri con loro, e in presenza ricevi l'ornamento della grazia, e acquisti la dignitade della congregazione.
4 Speak, thou that art elder: for it becometh thee,	4 Tu, più antico di loro, favella; elli si conviene a te
5 To speak the first word with care knowledge, and hinder not music.	5 lo primo sermone d'uomo che ami iscienza; e non impedire il loro cantare.
6 Where there is no hearing, pour out words, and be not lifted up out season with thy wisdom.	6 Dove non è udienza, non impacciare la tua parola; e non ti esaltare importunamente nella tua sapienza.
7 ,7A concert of music in a banquet wine is as a carbuncle set in gold.	7 La gemma del carbonculo nell' ornamento dell' oro è l'agguagliezza delli stromenti musici nel convito del vino.
8 As a signet of an emerald in a work of gold: so is the melody of music with pleasant and moderate wine.	8 Così come nella fabbricazione dell' oro è il segno dello smeraglio, così è il numero della musica nel gaudente e temperato vino.
9 Hear in silence, and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.	9 Odi, tacendo; per la riverenza (che porterai agli altri) ti verrà buona grazia.
10 Young man, scarcely speak in thy own cause.	10 Tu, giovane, appena quando sarà necessario favella nella tua questione.
11 If thou be asked twice, let thy answer be short.	11 Se tu sarai due volte domandato, abbia fine la tua risposta.
12 In many things be as if thou wert ignorant, and hear in silence and withal seeking.	12 Intra molti sii sì come non saputo, e odi tacendo e domandando.
13 In the company of great men bake not upon thee: and when the ancients are present, speak not much.	13 E non presumere (di parlare) in mezzo delli grandi uomini; e dove sono li vecchi, non parlare molto.
14 Before a storm goeth lightning: and before shamefacedness goeth favour: and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.	14 Il lampeggiare va inanzi alla gragnuola, e la grazia vae dinanzi al vergognarsi, e per la tua riverenza ti verrà buona grazia.
15 And at the time of rising be not slack: but be first to run home to thy house, and there withdraw thyself, and there take thy pastime.	15 E nell' ora del (dì allo) levare non ti tristare; tu primo anticorri nella casa tua, e prima chiama gli altri, e quivi ti sollazza.
16 And do what thou hast a mind, but not in sin or proud speech.	16 E opera li concetti del tuo animo, ma non in peccati nè in parole superbe.
17 And for all these things bless the Lord, that made thee, and that replenisheth thee with all his good things.	17 Sopra queste cose tutte sarae la benedizione di Dio, il quale (Dio) ti fece, e che empie te di tutti li suoi beni.
18 He that feareth the Lord, will receive his discipline: and they that will seek him early, shall find a blessing.	18 Colui che teme Iddio, riceverà la dottrina sua; e chi veglierae con lui, troverae la benedizione (sua).
19 He that seeketh the law, shall be filled with it: and he that dealeth deceitfully, shall meet with a stumblingblock therein.	19 Chi cerca la legge, sarà ripieno di quella; e chi ingannevolmente adopererae (la legge), si iscandalizzerà in lei.
20 They that fear the Lord, shall find just judgment, and shall kindle justice as a light.	20 Chi teme Iddio, troverà giusta sentenza; e apprenderanno le giustizie (in lui), sì come uno lume.
21 A sinful man will flee reproof, and will find an excuse according to his will.	21 L'uomo peccatore schiferà la correzione, e a sua volontà troverà somiglianza.
22 A man of counsel will not neglect understanding, a strange and proud man will not dread fear:	22 L'uomo savio non dispregerà la intelligenza; lo matto e il superbo non temerà il timore,
23 Even after he hath done with fear without counsel, he shall be controlled by the things of his own seeking.	23 eziandio poi che averà fatto con esso sanza consiglio, e poi ch' ello fia ripreso in quelle cose ch' elli seguirà.
24 My son, do thou nothing without counsel, and thou shalt not repent when thou hast done.	24 Figliuolo, nulla fare sanza consiglio, e dopo il fatto non te ne pentirai.
25 Go not in the way of ruin, and thou shalt not stumble against the stones; trust not thyself to a rugged may, lest thou set a stumblingblock to thy soul.	25 Non andare nella via della ruina, e non percuotere li piedi nelle pietre; non ti commettere alla faticosa via; non porre all' anima tua scandalo.
26 And beware of thy own children, and take heed of them of thy household.	26 E guàrdati da' tuoi figliuoli, e da quelli che ti saranno familiari.
27 In every work of thine regard thy soul in faith: for this is the keeping of the commandments.	27 In ogni tua opera credi all' anima tua di fede; però che questa si è la conservazione de' comandamenti.
28 He that believeth God, taketh heed to the commandments: and he that trusteth in him, shall fare never the worse.	28 E chi crede a Dio, attende alli comandamenti; e chi si fida in lui, non dibasserae.
