1 Have they made thee ruler? be not lifted up: be among them as one of them.	1 On t’a choisi pour présider le festin? Ne prends pas de grands airs. Sois avec les autres comme l’un d’entre eux; occupe-toi d’eux puis prends ta place simplement.
2 Have care of them, and so sit down, and when thou hast acquitted thyself of all thy charge, take thy place :	2 Quand tu auras fait tout le nécessaire, tu t’allongeras à ta place pour te réjouir avec eux. Alors tu recevras la couronne pour ta bonne organisation.
3 That thou mayst rejoice for them, and receive a crown as an ornament of grace, and get the honour of the contribution.	3 Parle, si tu es ancien, cela te revient; mais sache ce que tu dis et n’empêche pas la musique.
4 Speak, thou that art elder: for it becometh thee,	4 Quand on est en train d’écouter, ce n’est pas le moment des discours, ne fais pas le sage à contretemps.
5 To speak the first word with care knowledge, and hinder not music.	5 Un concert au cours d’un banquet bien arrosé, c’est une pierre précieuse sur un bijou d’or.
6 Where there is no hearing, pour out words, and be not lifted up out season with thy wisdom.	6 Le chant des musiciens vient sur la douceur du vin comme une émeraude sur sa monture d’or.
7 ,7A concert of music in a banquet wine is as a carbuncle set in gold.	7 Parle, toi qui es jeune, si on te le demande, mais pas plus de deux fois, et pour répondre.
8 As a signet of an emerald in a work of gold: so is the melody of music with pleasant and moderate wine.	8 Résume ton discours, dis beaucoup en peu de mots. Montre que tu sais, mais que tu sais te taire.
9 Hear in silence, and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.	9 Si tu es avec des gens importants, ne les traite pas d’égal à égal; ne bavarde pas pendant qu’un autre parle.
10 Young man, scarcely speak in thy own cause.	10 L’éclair part avant le tonnerre: quand arrive l’homme modeste, il est déjà attendu.
11 If thou be asked twice, let thy answer be short.	11 Lève-toi de table dès qu’il est temps, ne t’attarde pas. Arrive vite chez toi sans traîner en chemin.
12 In many things be as if thou wert ignorant, and hear in silence and withal seeking.	12 Là tu te changeras les idées, tu feras ce qui te plaît, mais sans pécher par des paroles insolentes.
13 In the company of great men bake not upon thee: and when the ancients are present, speak not much.	13 Finalement tu béniras celui qui t’a fait et qui te comble de ses biens.
14 Before a storm goeth lightning: and before shamefacedness goeth favour: and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.	14 Celui qui craint le Seigneur accepte ses leçons, ceux qui le cherchent dès l’aurore recevront bon accueil.
15 And at the time of rising be not slack: but be first to run home to thy house, and there withdraw thyself, and there take thy pastime.	15 Qui s’adonne à la Loi, elle le comblera; celui qui fait semblant, elle le fera tomber.
16 And do what thou hast a mind, but not in sin or proud speech.	16 Ceux qui craignent le Seigneur, il les recevra; leurs bonnes actions brilleront comme la lumière.
17 And for all these things bless the Lord, that made thee, and that replenisheth thee with all his good things.	17 Le pécheur n’accepte pas la réprimande, il trouve toujours à justifier ce qui lui plaît.
18 He that feareth the Lord, will receive his discipline: and they that will seek him early, shall find a blessing.	18 L’homme prudent ne néglige pas la réflexion, mais l’orgueilleux indifférent n’a peur de rien.
19 He that seeketh the law, shall be filled with it: and he that dealeth deceitfully, shall meet with a stumblingblock therein.	19 Ne fais rien sans avoir réfléchi, et tu ne te repentiras pas de tes actes.
20 They that fear the Lord, shall find just judgment, and shall kindle justice as a light.	20 Ne prends pas le chemin raboteux et tu ne trébucheras pas sur les pierres.
21 A sinful man will flee reproof, and will find an excuse according to his will.	21 Ne te fie pas au chemin bien uni:
22 A man of counsel will not neglect understanding, a strange and proud man will not dread fear:	22 garde-toi, même de tes enfants.
23 Even after he hath done with fear without counsel, he shall be controlled by the things of his own seeking.	23 Dans tout ce que tu fais, agis selon ta conscience: c’est ainsi que tu observeras les commandements.
24 My son, do thou nothing without counsel, and thou shalt not repent when thou hast done.	24 Qui fait confiance à la Loi est attentif aux commandements; qui obéit au Seigneur ne subira aucun dommage.
25 Go not in the way of ruin, and thou shalt not stumble against the stones; trust not thyself to a rugged may, lest thou set a stumblingblock to thy soul.
26 And beware of thy own children, and take heed of them of thy household.
27 In every work of thine regard thy soul in faith: for this is the keeping of the commandments.
28 He that believeth God, taketh heed to the commandments: and he that trusteth in him, shall fare never the worse.
