1 And Adam knew Eve his wife: who conceived and brought forth Cain, saying: I have gotten a man through God.	1 Or Adamo si unì a Eva, sua moglie, la quale concepì e partorì Caino, dicendo: "Ho formato un uomo con il favore del Signore".
2 And again she brought forth his brother Abel. And Abel was a shepherd, and Cain a husbandman.	2 Quindi aggiunse al nato un fratello, Abele. Abele divenne pastore di greggi e Caino coltivatore del suolo.
3 And it came to pass after many days, that Cain offered, of the fruits of the earth, gifts to the Lord.	3 Or, dopo un certo tempo, Caino offrì dei frutti del suolo in sacrificio al Signore;
4 Abel also offered of the firstlings of his flock, and of their fat: and the Lord had respect to Abel, and to his offerings.	4 e anche Abele offrì dei primogeniti del suo gregge e del loro grasso. Il Signore gradì Abele e la sua offerta,
5 But to Cain and his offerings he had no respect: and Cain was exceedingly angry, and his countenance fell.	5 ma non gradì Caino e l'offerta di lui. Perciò Caino ne fu molto irritato e il suo viso fu abbattuto.
6 And the Lord said to him: Why art thou angry? and why is thy countenance fallen?	6 Il Signore disse allora a Caino: "Perché tu sei acceso d'ira e perché è abbattuto il tuo volto?
7 If thou do well, shalt thou not receive? but if ill, shall not sin forthwith be present at the door? but the lust thereof shall be under thee, and thou shalt have dominion over it.	7 Non è forse vero che se agisci bene puoi tenere alta la testa, mentre se non agisci bene, è alla porta il Maligno, come un Robes? Esso si sforza di conquistare te, ma sei tu che lo devi dominare!".
8 And Cain said to Abel his brother: Let us go forth abroad. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel, and slew him.	8 Poi Caino ebbe da dire con suo fratello Abele. E com'essi furono nei campi, Caino si scagliò contro suo fratello Abele e lo uccise.
9 And the Lord said to Cain: Where is thy brother Abel? And he answered, I know not: am I my brother's keeper?	9 Il Signore disse a Caino: "Dov'è Abele, tuo fratello?". Egli rispose: "Non lo so. Sono forse io custode di mio fratello?".
10 And he said to him: What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth to me from the earth.	10 Il Signore riprese: "Che hai tu fatto? Sento il fiotto di sangue di tuo fratello che grida a me dal suolo!
11 Now, therefore, cursed shalt thou be upon the earth, which hath opened her mouth and received the blood of thy brother at thy hand,	11 E ora tu sei maledetto dalla terra che per mano tua ha spalancato la bocca per ricevere il fiotto di sangue di tuo fratello.
12 When thou shalt till it, it shall not yield to thee its fruit: a fugitive and vagabond shalt thou be upon the earth.	12 Quando lavorerai il suolo, esso non ti darà più i suoi frutti; errante e vagabondo sarai per la terra".
13 And Cain said to the Lord: My iniquity is greater than that I may deserve pardon.	13 Caino disse al Signore: "E' troppo grande la mia colpa, così da non meritare perdono!
14 Behold thou dost cast me out this day from the face of the earth, and I shall be hidden from thy face, and I shall be a vagabond and a fugitive on the earth: everyone, therefore, that findeth me, shall kill me.	14 Ecco, tu mi scacci oggi dalla faccia di questo suolo, e lungi dalla tua presenza io mi dovrò nascondere; io sarò ramingo e fuggiasco per la terra, per cui avverrà che chiunque mi troverà m'ucciderà".
15 And the Lord said to him: No, it shall not be so: but whosoever shall kill Cain, shall be punished sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, that whosoever found him should not kill him.	15 Ma il Signore gli disse: "Non così! Chiunque ucciderà Caino sarà punito sette volte!". E il Signore pose su Caino un segno, cosicché chiunque l'avesse incontrato non l'avrebbe ucciso!
16 And Cain went out from the face of the Lord, and dwelt as a fugitive on the earth, at the east side of Eden.	16 E Caino partì dalla presenza del Signore e abitò nel paese di Nod, di fronte a Eden.
17 And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived, and brought forth Henoch: and he built a city, and called the name thereof by the name of his son Henoch.	17 Or Caino si unì a sua moglie che concepì e partorì Enoch. Egli divenne costruttore di una città, che chiamò Enoch, dal nome del figlio suo.
18 And Henoch begot Irad, and Irad begot Maviael, and Maviael begot Mathusael, and Mathusael begot Lamech:	18 E a Enoch nacque Irad; e Irad generò Mecuiael e Mecuiael generò Matusael e Matusael generò Lamech.
19 Who took two wives: the name of the one was Ada, and the name of the other was Sella.	19 Lamech si prese due mogli: una di nome Ada e l'altra di nome Zilla.
20 And Ada brought forth Jabel: who was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of herdsmen.	20 Ada partorì Iabal; questi fu il padre di quanti abitano sotto le tende, presso il bestiame.
21 And his brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of them that play upon the harp and the organs.	21 Il nome di suo fratello fu Iubal; questi fu il padre di tutti i suonatori di lira e flauto.
22 Sella also brought forth Tubalcain, who was a hammerer and artificer in every work of brass and iron. And the sister of Tubalcain was Noema.	22 Zilla partorì, essa pure, Tubalkain, istruttore di ogni aguzzatore del rame e del ferro. Sorella di Tubalkain fu Noema.
23 And Lamech said to his wives Ada and Sell: Hear my voice, ye wives of Lamech, hearken to my speech: for I have slain a man to the wounding of myself, and a stripling to my own bruising.	23 Lamech disse alle mogli: "Ada e Zilla, udite la mia voce; mogli di Lamech, ascoltate il mio dire: Ho ucciso un uomo per una mia ferita ed un giovane per una mia ammaccatura:
24 Sevenfold vengeance shall be taken for Cain: but for Lamech seventy times sevenfold.	24 Caino sarà vendicato sette volte, ma Lamech settantasette".
25 Adam also knew his wife again: and she brought forth a son, and called his name Seth, saying: God hath given me another seed, for Abel whom Cain slew.	25 Adamo si unì di nuovo a sua moglie, che partorì un figlio e lo chiamò Set, dicendo: "Dio mi ha dato un altro discendente al posto di Abele, poiché Caino l'ha ucciso".
26 But to Seth also was born a son, whom he called Enos; this man began to call upon the name of the Lord.	26 Anche a Set nacque un figlio, e lo chiamò Enos. Allora si cominciò ad invocare il nome del Signore (Jhwh).
