Isaías 47

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 ¡Baja y siéntate en el polvo, virgen, hija de Babilonia! ¡Siéntate en el suelo, sin trono, hija de los caldeos! Porque ya no volverán a llamarte «Delicada» y «Refinada».	1 Step down! Sit in the dust, virgin daughter of Babylon. Sit on the ground, no throne, daughter of theChaldaeans, for never again will you be cal ed tender and delicate.
2 ¡Toma el mortero y muele la harina; quítate el velo, levántate el vestido, descúbrete el muslo, cruza los ríos!	2 Take the grinding mil , crush up the meal. Remove your veil, tie up your skirt, bare your legs, cross therivers.
3 ¡Que se descubra tu desnudez y que se vea tu ignominia! Yo me vengaré y nadie se me opondrá,	3 Let your nakedness be displayed and your shame exposed. I am going to take vengeance and no onewil stand in my way.

5 ¡Siéntate en silencio y entra en las tinieblas, hija de los caldeos! Porque ya no volverán a llamarte «Soberana de los reinos».	5 Sit in silence, bury yourself in darkness, daughter of the Chaldaeans, for never again wil you be cal edthe mistress of kingdoms.
6 Yo estaba irritado contra mi pueblo profané mi herencia, y los entregué en tus manos. Tú no les tuviste compasión: hasta al anciano lo abrumaste con el peso de tu yugo.	6 Being angry with my people, I rejected my heritage, surrendering them into your clutches. You showedthem no mercy, you made your yoke very heavy on the aged.
7 Tú decías: «Seré siempre soberana, a lo largo de los siglos». Pero no te preocupabas por esto, no tenías presente el futuro.	7 You thought, 'I shal be a queen for ever.' You did not reflect on these matters or think about the future.
8 Y ahora, escucha esto, voluptuosa, tú, que reinas confiada y dices en tu corazón: «¡Yo, y nadie más que yo! ¡Nunca me quedaré viuda ni me veré privada de hijos!».	8 Now listen to this, voluptuous woman, lolling at ease and thinking to yourself, 'I am the only one whomatters. I shal never be widowed, never know bereavement.'
9 Estas dos cosas te sobrevendrán, de repente, en un solo día: la privación de tus hijos y la viudez vendrán sobre ti con todo su rigor, pese a tus muchos sortilegios y al cúmulo de tus encantamientos.	9 Yet both these things wil befall you, suddenly, in one day. Bereavement and widowhood wil suddenlybefal you in spite of al your witchcraft and the potency of your spel s.
10 Tú te fiabas de tu maldad, pensando: «Nadie me ve». Tu sabiduría y tu ciencia te hicieron perder la cabeza, mientras decías en tu corazón: «¡Yo, y nadie más que yo!».	10 Confident in your wickedness, you thought, 'No one can see me.' Your wishes and your knowledgewere what deluded you, as you thought to yourself, 'I am the only one who matters.'
11 Pero te va a suceder una desgracia, que no sabrás conjurar; va a caer sobre ti un desastre que no podrás aplacar, te va a sobrevenir de improviso una catástrofe que no imaginabas.	11 Hence, disaster wil befal you which you wil not know how to charm away, calamity overtake youwhich you wil not be able to avert, ruination will suddenly befal you, such as you have never known.
12 Persiste en tus encantamientos y en tus muchos sortilegios, por los que has bregado desde tu juventud: ¡tal vez puedan servirte de algo, tal vez logres infundir terror!	12 Keep to your spel s then, and al your sorceries, at which you have worked so hard since you wereyoung. Perhaps you wil succeed, perhaps you wil strike terror!
13 ¡Te has cansado de recibir consejos! ¡Que se presenten y te salven los que investigan el cielo, los que observan las estrellas, los que pronostican cada luna nueva lo que te va a suceder!	13 You have had many tiring consultations: let the astrologers come forward now and save you, the star-gazers who announce month by month what wil happen to you next.
14 Pero ellos serán como paja: el fuego los quemará; no podrán librarse a sí mismos del poder de las llamas; no serán brasas para dar calor ni fuego para sentarse ante él.	14 Look, they are like wisps of straw, the fire wil burn them up. They will not save their lives from thepower of the flame. No embers these, for keeping warm, no fire to sit beside!
15 Eso son para ti tus adivinos, por los que has bregado desde tu juventud: ellos andan errantes, cada uno por su lado, no hay nadie que pueda salvarte.	15 Such wil your wizards prove to be for you, for whom you have worked so hard since you were young;each wandering his own way, none of them can save you.
