| 1 Car je veux que vous sachiez quelle sollicitude j'ai pour vous, et pour ceux qui sont à Laodicée, et pour tous ceux qui n'ont pas vu mon visage dans la chair, | 1 I want you to know, then, what a struggle I am having on your behalf and on behalf of those in Laodicea,and on behalf of so many others who have never seen me face to face. |
| 2 afin que leurs coeurs soient consolés, et qu'étant unis dans la charité, ils soient remplis de toutes les richesses d'une parfaite intelligence, à la connaissance du mystère de Dieu le Père et du Christ Jésus, | 2 It is all to bind them together in love and to encourage their resolution until they are rich in the assuranceof their complete understanding and have knowledge of the mystery of God |
| 3 en qui sont cachés tous les trésors de la sagesse et de la science. | 3 in which al the jewels of wisdom and knowledge are hidden. |
| 4 Je dis cela, afin que personne ne vous trompe par des discours élevés. | 4 I say this to make sure that no one deceives you with specious arguments. |
| 5 Car, bien que je sois absent de corps, je suis avec vous en esprit, me réjouissant de voir l'ordre qui règne parmi vous, et la solidité de votre foi dans le Christ. | 5 I may be absent in body, but in spirit I am there among you, delighted to find how wel -ordered you areand to see how firm your faith in Christ is. |
| 6 Ainsi donc, comme vous avez reçu le Seigneur Jésus-Christ, marchez en Lui, | 6 So then, as you received Jesus as Lord and Christ, now live your lives in him, |
| 7 étant enracinês en Lui, et édifiés sur Lui, et affermis dans la foi telle qu'elle vous a été enseignêe, et croissant en Lui avec action de grâces. | 7 be rooted in him and built up on him, held firm by the faith you have been taught, and overflowing withthanksgiving. |
| 8 Prenez garde que personne ne vous séduise par la philosophie et une vaine tromperie, selon la tradition des hommes, selon les éléments du monde, et non selon le Christ; | 8 Make sure that no one captivates you with the empty lure of a 'philosophy' of the kind that human beingshand on, based on the principles of this world and not on Christ. |
| 9 car toute la plénitude de la divinité habite corporellement en Lui, | 9 In him, in bodily form, lives divinity in al its ful ness, |
| 10 et vous avez tout pleinement en Lui, qui est le chef de toute principauté et de toute puissance. | 10 and in him you too find your own fulfilment, in the one who is the head of every sovereignty and rulingforce. |
| 11 C'est aussi en Lui que vous avez été circoncis d'une circoncision que la main n'a pas faite, mais qui consiste dans le dépouillement du corps de chair, c'est-à-dire, dans la circoncision du Christ; | 11 In him you have been circumcised, with a circumcision performed, not by human hand, but by thecomplete stripping of your natural self. This is circumcision according to Christ. |
| 12 ayant été ensevelis avec Lui par le baptême, dans lequel vous êtes aussi ressuscités par la foi en la puissance de Dieu, qui L'a ressuscité des morts. | 12 You have been buried with him by your baptism; by which, too, you have been raised up with himthrough your belief in the power of God who raised him from the dead. |
| 13 Et lorsque vous étiez morts par vos offenses et par l'incirconcision de votre chair, Il vous a fait revivre avec Lui, vous pardonnant tous vos péchés. | 13 You were dead, because you were sinners and uncircumcised in body: he has brought you to life withhim, he has forgiven us every one of our sins. |
| 14 Il a effacé l'acte qui s'élevait contre nous par ses décrets, qui nous était contraire, et Il l'a mis de côté, en le clouant sur la Croix; | 14 He has wiped out the record of our debt to the Law, which stood against us; he has destroyed it bynailing it to the cross; |
| 15 et dépouillant les principautés et les puissances, Il les a menées captives hardiment, triomphant d'elles publiquement en Lui-même. | 15 and he has stripped the sovereignties and the ruling forces, and paraded them in public, behind him inhis triumphal procession. |
| 16 Que personne donc ne vous juge au sujet du manger et du boire, ou à propos d'un jour de fête, ou d'une nouvelle lune, ou des sabbats, | 16 Then never let anyone criticise you for what you eat or drink, or about observance of annual festivals,New Moons or Sabbaths. |
| 17 choses qui sont l'ombre de celles qui devaient venir, tandis que le Christ est le corps. | 17 These are only a shadow of what was coming: the reality is the body of Christ. |
| 18 Que personne ne vous séduise, en affectant l'humilité et en rendant un culte aux Anges, s'égarant en des choses qu'il n'a pas vues, enflé d'un vain orgueil par un sens charnel, | 18 Do not be cheated of your prize by anyone who chooses to grovel to angels and worship them, pinningevery hope on visions received, vainly puffed up by a human way of thinking; |
| 19 et ne s'attachant pas au chef, duquel le corps entier, serré et relié au moyen des jointures et des ligatures, tire l'accroissement que Dieu lui donne. | 19 such a person has no connection to the Head, by which the whole body, given al that it needs andheld together by its joints and sinews, grows with the growth given by God. |
| 20 Si donc vous êtes morts avec le Christ aux éléments de ce monde, pourquoi vous imposez-vous des lois, comme si vous viviez dans le monde? | 20 If you have really died with Christ to the principles of this world, why do you stil let rules dictate to you,as though you were still living in the world? |
| 21 Ne touchez pas, ne goûtez pas, ne maniez pas! | 21 -'Do not pick up this, do not eat that, do not touch the other,' |
| 22 Toutes ces choses périssent par l'usage même, et n'existent qu'en vertu des préceptes et des ordonnances des hommes; | 22 and al about things which perish even while they are being used -- according to merely humancommandments and doctrines! |
| 23 elles ont une apparence de sagesse, par un culte exagéré et une humilité affectée, en n'épargnant pas le corps, mais cela n'a aucun mérite et ne sert qu'à rassasier la chair. | 23 In these rules you can indeed find what seems to be good sense -- the cultivation of the wil , and ahumility which takes no account of the body; but in fact they have no value against self-indulgence. |
