| 1 Mes frères, le désir de mon coeur et la supplication que j'adresse à Dieu ont pour objet leur salut. | 1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God on their behalf is for salvation. |
| 2 Car je leur rends le témoignage qu'ils ont du zèle pour Dieu, mais non selon la science; | 2 I testify with regard to them that they have zeal for God, but it is not discerning. |
| 3 car, ne connaissant pas la justice de Dieu, et cherchant à établir la leur, ils ne se sont pas soumis à la justice de Dieu. | 3 For, in their unawareness of the righteousness that comes from God and their attempt to establish their own (righteousness), they did not submit to the righteousness of God. |
| 4 En effet, la fin de la loi, c'est le Christ, pour la justification de tous ceux qui croient. | 4 For Christ is the end of the law for the justification of everyone who has faith. |
| 5 Aussi Moïse a-t-il écrit, touchant la justice qui vient de la loi, que quiconque la pratiquera y trouvera la vie. | 5 Moses writes about the righteousness that comes from (the) law, "The one who does these things will live by them." |
| 6 Mais quant à la justice qui vient de la foi, il en parle ainsi: Ne dis pas en ton coeur: Qui montera au ciel? c'est-à-dire, pour en faire descendre le Christ; | 6 But the righteousness that comes from faith says, "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will go up into heaven?' (that is, to bring Christ down) |
| 7 ou qui descendra dans l'abîme? c'est-à-dire, pour rappeler le Christ d'entre les morts. | 7 or 'Who will go down into the abyss?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead)." |
| 8 Mais que dit l'Ecriture? Près de toi est la parole, dans ta bouche et dans ton coeur; c'est-à-dire la parole de la foi, que nous prêchons; | 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith that we preach), |
| 9 car si tu confesses de ta bouche le Seigneur Jésus, et si tu crois dans ton coeur que Dieu L'a ressuscité d'entre les morts, tu seras sauvé. | 9 for, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. |
| 10 Car c'est en croyant du coeur que l'on est justifié, et c'est en confessant de la bouche qu'on est sauvé. | 10 For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. |
| 11 En effet, l'Ecriture dit: Quiconque croit en Lui ne sera pas confondu. | 11 For the scripture says, "No one who believes in him will be put to shame." |
| 12 Car il n'y a pas de distinction entre le Juif et le Grec, puisqu'ils ont tous un même Seigneur, riche pour tous ceux qui L'invoquent. | 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all, enriching all who call upon him. |
| 13 Car quiconque invoquera le nom du Seigneur sera sauvé. | 13 For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." |
| 14 Mais comment invoqueront-ils Celui auquel ils n'ont pas cru? ou comment croiront-ils en Celui dont il n'ont pas entendu parler? et comment en entendront-ils parler, s'il n'y a pas de prédicateur? | 14 But how can they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? |
| 15 Et comment les prédicateurs prêcheront-ils, s'ils ne sont pas envoyés? ainsi qu'il est écrit: Qu'ils sont beaux, les pieds de ceux qui annoncent la paix, de ceux qui annoncent la bonne nouvelle! | 15 And how can people preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring (the) good news!" |
| 16 Mais tous n'obéissent pas à la bonne nouvelle. Aussi Isaïe dit-il: Seigneur, qui a cru à notre prédication? | 16 But not everyone has heeded the good news; for Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed what was heard from us?" |
| 17 La foi donc vient de ce qu'on a entendu, et l'on entend grâce à la parole du Christ. | 17 Thus faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ. |
| 18 Mais je dis: Est-ce qu'ils n'ont pas entendu? Certes, leur voix est allée par toute la terre, et leurs paroles jusqu'aux extrémités du monde. | 18 But I ask, did they not hear? Certainly they did; for "Their voice has gone forth to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world." |
| 19 Mais je dis encore: Est-ce qu'Israël n'a rien connu? Moïse le premier a dit: Je vous rendrai jaloux d'un peuple qui n'en est pas un, et Je provoquerai votre colère contre une nation insensée. | 19 But I ask, did not Israel understand? First Moses says: "I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation; with a senseless nation I will make you angry." |
| 20 Mais Isaïe s'enhardit jusqu'à dire: J'ai été trouvé par ceux qui ne Me cherchaient pas; Je Me suis manifesté ouvertement à ceux qui ne Me demandaient pas. | 20 Then Isaiah speaks boldly and says: "I was found (by) those who were not seeking me; I revealed myself to those who were not asking for me." |
| 21 Mais à Israël il dit: Tout le jour J'ai tendu Mes mains à un peuple incrédule et qui contredit. | 21 But regarding Israel he says, "All day long I stretched out my hands to a disobedient and contentious people." |
