| 1 Ainsi parle le Seigneur: Voici, Je susciterai contre Babylone et contre ses habitants, qui ont élevé leur coeur contre Moi, comme un vent pestilentiel; | 1 Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the midst of them that rise up against me, a destroying wind; |
| 2 et J'enverrai contre Babylone des vanneurs qui la vanneront et qui ravageront son pays, car ils viendront de toutes parts sur elle au jour de son affliction. | 2 And will send unto Babylon fanners, that shall fan her, and shall empty her land: for in the day of trouble they shall be against her round about. |
| 3 Que celui qui tend l'arc ne le tende pas, que l'homme muni de la cuirasse ne monte pas; n'épargnez pas ses jeunes hommes, exterminez toute son armée. | 3 Against him that bendeth let the archer bend his bow, and against him that lifteth himself up in his brigandine: and spare ye not her young men; destroy ye utterly all her host. |
| 4 Les morts tomberont dans le pays des Chaldéens, et les blessés dans ses provinces. | 4 Thus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and they that are thrust through in her streets. |
| 5 Car Israël et Juda n'ont pas été abandonnés de leur Dieu, le Seigneur des armées; mais le pays des Chaldéens est rempli de crimes contre le Saint d'Israël. | 5 For Israel hath not been forsaken, nor Judah of his God, of the LORD of hosts; though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel. |
| 6 Fuyez du milieu de Babylone, et que chacun sauve sa vie; ne taisez pas son iniquité, car c'est le temps de la vengeance du Seigneur, et Il lui rendra Lui-même ce qu'elle mérite. | 6 Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD's vengeance; he will render unto her a recompence. |
| 7 Babylone est dans la main du Seigneur une coupe d'or, qui a enivré toute la terre; les nations ont bu de son vin, et c'est pour cela qu'elles ont été agitées. | 7 Babylon hath been a golden cup in the LORD's hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad. |
| 8 Babylone est tombée tout à coup, et elle a été brisée. Poussez des cris sur elle; prenez du baume pour sa douleur, peut-être guérira-t-elle. | 8 Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so she may be healed. |
| 9 Nous avons soigné Babylone, et elle n'a pas été guérie; abandonnons-la, et allons chacun dans notre pays, car sa condamnation est montée jusqu'au ciel et s'est élevée jusqu'aux nues. | 9 We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies. |
| 10 Le Seigneur nous a fait publiquement justice; venez, et racontons dans Sion l'oeuvre du Seigneur notre Dieu. | 10 The LORD hath brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God. |
| 11 Aiguisez les flèches, remplissez les carquois; le Seigneur a excité l'esprit des rois des Mèdes: Sa pensée est contre Babylone, pour la perdre, car c'est la vengeance du Seigneur, la vengeance de Son temple. | 11 Make bright the arrows; gather the shields: the LORD hath raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: for his device is against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance of his temple. |
| 12 Levez l'étendard sur les murs de Babylone, augmentez la garde, placez des sentinelles, préparez des embuscades, car le Seigneur a pris une résolution, et Il va exécuter tout ce qu'Il a prédit contre les habitants de Babylone. | 12 Set up the standard upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for the LORD hath both devised and done that which he spake against the inhabitants of Babylon. |
| 13 Toi qui habites sur les grandes eaux, riche en trésors, ta fin est venue, tu es sur le point d'être détruite. | 13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, and the measure of thy covetousness. |
| 14 Le Seigneur des armées a juré par Lui-même: Je te remplirai d'hommes comme de sauterelles, et on chantera sur toi un chant de joie. | 14 The LORD of hosts hath sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with caterpillers; and they shall lift up a shout against thee. |
| 15 C'est Lui qui a fait la terre par Sa puissance, qui a préparé le monde par Sa sagesse, et qui par Sa prudence a étendu les cieux. | 15 He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heaven by his understanding. |
| 16 Au bruit de Sa voix, les eaux se multiplient dans le ciel; Il élève les nuées des extrémités de la terre, Il fait résoudre les éclairs en pluie, et Il tire le vent de Ses trésors. | 16 When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens; and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth: he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures. |
| 17 Tout homme est devenu insensé par sa science, tout fondeur a été confondu par sa statue, car leur oeuvre est mensongère et n'a pas de vie. | 17 Every man is brutish by his knowledge; every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them. |
| 18 Ce sont des ouvrages vains et dignes de risée; ils périront au temps où Dieu les visitera. | 18 They are vanity, the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish. |
| 19 Celui qui est la part de Jacob n'est pas comme ces idoles, car c'est Lui qui a tout créé; Israël est le sceptre de Son héritage, et Son nom est le Seigneur des armées. | 19 The portion of Jacob is not like them; for he is the former of all things: and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: the LORD of hosts is his name. |
| 20 Tu brises pour Moi les instruments de guerre; et Moi Je briserai par toi les nations, et Je détruirai par toi les royaumes; | 20 Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms; |
| 21 Je briserai par toi le cheval et son cavalier; Je briserai par toi le char et celui qui le monte; | 21 And with thee will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and his rider; |
| 22 Je briserai par toi l'homme et la femme; Je briserai par toi le vieillard et l'enfant; Je briserai par toi le jeune homme et la jeune fille; | 22 With thee also will I break in pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces old and young; and with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the maid; |
| 23 Je briserai par toi le pasteur et son troupeau; Je briserai par toi le laboureur et ses boeufs; Je briserai par toi les chefs et les magistrats; | 23 I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will I break in pieces captains and rulers. |
| 24 et Je rendrai à Babylone et à tous les habitants de la Chaldée tout le mal qu'ils ont fait à Sion, sous vos yeux, dit le Seigneur. | 24 And I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, saith the LORD. |
| 25 Voici que Je vais à toi, montagne pestilentielle, dit le Seigneur, à toi qui corromps toute la terre; J'étendrai Ma main sur toi, et Je t'arracherai d'entre les rochers, et Je ferai de toi une montagne embrasée; | 25 Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the LORD, which destroyest all the earth: and I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain. |
| 26 et on ne tirera de toi ni pierre angulaire, ni pierre pour les fondements; mais tu seras à jamais détruite, dit le Seigneur. | 26 And they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but thou shalt be desolate for ever, saith the LORD. |
| 27 Levez l'étendard dans le pays, sonnez de la trompette parmi les nations, consacrez les nations contre Babylone; appelez contre elle les rois d'Ararat, de Menni et d'Ascénez; assemblez Taphsar contre elle, faites venir les chevaux comme des sauterelles hérissées. | 27 Set ye up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillers. |
| 28 Consacrez contre elle les nations, les rois de Médie, ses chefs et tous ses magistrats, et tout le pays soumis à sa puissance. | 28 Prepare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, the captains thereof, and all the rulers thereof, and all the land of his dominion. |
| 29 La terre sera ébranlée et tremblera, parce que la pensée du Seigneur s'éveillera contre Babylone, pour rendre le pays de Babylone désert et inhabité. | 29 And the land shall tremble and sorrow: for every purpose of the LORD shall be performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant. |
| 30 Les héros de Babylone ont cessé de combattre, ils sont demeurés dans les forteresses; leur force s'est anéantie, et ils sont devenus comme des femmes; ses maisons ont été brûlées, et ses verrous ont été brisés. | 30 The mighty men of Babylon have forborn to fight, they have remained in their holds: their might hath failed; they became as women: they have burned her dwellingplaces; her bars are broken. |
| 31 Le courrier rencontre le courrier, et le messager rencontre le messager, pour annoncer au roi de Babylone que sa ville a été prise d'une extrémité à l'autre. | 31 One post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to shew the king of Babylon that his city is taken at one end, |
| 32 Les gués ont été envahis, et les marais incendiés, et les guerriers sont épouvantés. | 32 And that the passages are stopped, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are affrighted. |
| 33 Car ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: La fille de Babylone est comme une aire, le temps où elle sera foulée est venu; encore un instant, et le temps de la moisson sera venu pour elle. | 33 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; The daughter of Babylon is like a threshingfloor, it is time to thresh her: yet a little while, and the time of her harvest shall come. |
| 34 Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, m'a mangée, il m'a dévorée, il a fait de moi comme un vase vide; il m'a absorbée comme un dragon, il a rempli son ventre de ce que j'avais de délicieux, et il m'a chassée. | 34 Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath swallowed me up like a dragon, he hath filled his belly with my delicates, he hath cast me out. |
| 35 La violence qu'on ma faite et ma chair sont sur Babylone, dit l'habitante de Sion, et mon sang est sur les habitants de la Chaldée, dit Jérusalem. | 35 The violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say. |
| 36 C'est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur: Voici, Je jugerai ta cause, et Je te vengerai, et Je mettrai sa mer à sec, et Je tarirai ses eaux. | 36 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will plead thy cause, and take vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and make her springs dry. |
| 37 Et Babylone sera réduite en monceaux; elle deviendra la demeure des dragons, un objet de stupeur et de raillerie, parce qu'elle n'aura plus d'habitants. | 37 And Babylon shall become heaps, a dwellingplace for dragons, an astonishment, and an hissing, without an inhabitant. |
| 38 Ils rugiront ensemble comme des lions, ils secoueront leurs crinières comme des lionceaux. | 38 They shall roar together like lions: they shall yell as lion's whelps. |
| 39 Quand ils auront chaud, Je les ferai boire et Je les enivrerai, afin qu'ils s'assoupissent, et qu'ils dorment d'un sommeil éternel, et qu'ils ne se relèvent pas, dit le Seigneur. | 39 In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the LORD. |
| 40 Je les conduirai comme des agneaux à la boucherie, et comme des béliers qu'on mène avec des boucs. | 40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he goats. |
| 41 Comment Sésach a-t-elle été prise? comment l'orgueil de toute la terre a-t-il été conquis? comment Babylone est-elle devenue un objet de stupeur parmi les nations? | 41 How is Sheshach taken! and how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! how is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations! |
| 42 La mer est montée sur Babylone, qui a été couverte par la multitude de ses flots. | 42 The sea is come up upon Babylon: she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof. |
| 43 Ses villes sont devenues un objet de stupeur, une terre inhabitable et déserte, une terre où personne n'habite, et où le fils de l'homme ne passe pas. | 43 Her cities are a desolation, a dry land, and a wilderness, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of man pass thereby. |
| 44 Je visiterai Bel à Babylone, et Je ferai sortir de sa bouche ce qu'il avait absorbé; et les nations n'afflueront plus vers lui, car la mur même de Babylone tombera. | 44 And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed up: and the nations shall not flow together any more unto him: yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall. |
| 45 Sortez du milieu d'elle, Mon peuple, afin que chacun sauve sa vie de l'ardente fureur du Seigneur. | 45 My people, go ye out of the midst of her, and deliver ye every man his soul from the fierce anger of the LORD. |
| 46 Que votre coeur ne s'amollisse pas, et ne craignez pas les bruits qu'on entendra dans le pays; une année il viendra un bruit, et un autre bruit l'année suivante; l'oppression régnera dans le pays, et le dominateur succèdera au dominateur. | 46 And lest your heart faint, and ye fear for the rumour that shall be heard in the land; a rumour shall both come one year, and after that in another year shall come a rumour, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler. |
| 47 C'est pourquoi voici, les jours viennent où Je visiterai les idoles de Babylone, et tout son pays sera couvert de confusion, et tous ses morts tomberont au milieu d'elle. | 47 Therefore, behold, the days come, that I will do judgment upon the graven images of Babylon: and her whole land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her. |
| 48 Alors les cieux et la terre, et tout ce qu'ils contiennent, loueront Dieu au sujet de Babylone, parce que les pillards viendront de l'aquilon contre elle, dit le Seigneur. | 48 Then the heaven and the earth, and all that is therein, shall sing for Babylon: for the spoilers shall come unto her from the north, saith the LORD. |
| 49 Et comme Babylone a fait tomber les morts dans Israël, ainsi les morts de Babylone tomberont sur toute la terre. | 49 As Babylon hath caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the earth. |
| 50 Vous qui avez fui le glaive, venez, ne vous arrêtez pas; de loin souvenez-vous du Seigneur, et que Jérusalem soit l'objet de vos pensées. | 50 Ye that have escaped the sword, go away, stand not still: remember the LORD afar off, and let Jerusalem come into your mind. |
| 51 Nous avons été confus, parce que nous avons entendu l'opprobre; la honte a couvert nos visages, parce que des étrangers sont venus dans le sanctuaire de la maison du Seigneur. | 51 We are confounded, because we have heard reproach: shame hath covered our faces: for strangers are come into the sanctuaries of the LORD's house. |
| 52 C'est pourquoi voici, les jours viennent, dit le Seigneur, où Je visiterai ses idoles, et où les blessés gémiront sur tout son territoire. | 52 Wherefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will do judgment upon her graven images: and through all her land the wounded shall groan. |
| 53 Quand Babylone serait montée au ciel, et qu'elle aurait affermi sa force sur les hauteurs, Je lui enverrais des dévastateurs, dit le Seigneur. | 53 Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the LORD. |
| 54 Un bruit de cris vient de Babylone, et la ruine est grande au pays des Chaldéens; | 54 A sound of a cry cometh from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans: |
| 55 car le Seigneur a ravagé Babylone, et Il en a fait cesser le grand bruit; leurs flots retentiront comme des eaux nombreuses, et leur voix s'est fait entendre; | 55 Because the LORD hath spoiled Babylon, and destroyed out of her the great voice; when her waves do roar like great waters, a noise of their voice is uttered: |
| 56 car le pillard est venu contre elle, c'est-à-dire contre Babylone; ses héros ont été pris, et leur arc a été brisé; parce que le Seigneur, puissant dans Sa vengeance, lui rendra ce qu'elle mérite. | 56 Because the spoiler is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, every one of their bows is broken: for the LORD God of recompences shall surely requite. |
| 57 J'enivrerai ses princes, et ses sages, et ses chefs, et ses magistrats, et ses héros, et ils dormiront d'un sommeil éternel, et ils ne se réveilleront pas, dit le Roi qui a pour nom le Seigneur des armées. | 57 And I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts. |
| 58 Ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées: Ce mur très large de Babylone sera entièrement renversé, ses hautes portes seront brûlées par le feu, et les travaux des peuples seront réduits à néant, et ceux des nations, livrés au feu, périront. | 58 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labour in vain, and the folk in the fire, and they shall be weary. |
| 59 Ordre donné par le prophète Jérémie à Saraïas, fils de Nérias, fils de Maasias, lorsqu'il allait avec le roi Sédécias à Babylone, la quatrième année de son rêgne; Saraïas était prince de la prophétie. | 59 The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And this Seraiah was a quiet prince. |
| 60 Jérémie écrivit dans un livre tous les maux qui devaient tomber sur Babylone, toutes ces paroles qui ont été écrites contre Babylone. | 60 So Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written against Babylon. |
| 61 Et Jérémie dit à Saraïas: Lorsque tu seras venu à Babylone, et que tu auras vu, et que tu auras lu toutes ces paroles, | 61 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon, and shalt see, and shalt read all these words; |
| 62 tu diras: Seigneur, c'est Vous qui avez parlé contre ce lieu, pour le perdre, de sorte que personne n'y habite, ni homme ni bête, et qu'il soit une éternelle solitude. | 62 Then shalt thou say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever. |
| 63 Et quand tu auras achevé de lire ce livre, tu y attacheras une pierre, et tu le jetteras au milieu de l'Euphrate, | 63 And it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of Euphrates: |
| 64 et tu diras: C'est ainsi que Babylone sera submergée, et elle ne se relèvera pas de l'affliction que Je vais amener sur elle, et elle sera détruite. Jusqu'ici ce sont les paroles de Jérémie. | 64 And thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah. |
