| 4 Vous m'avez délivré, selon la multitude de Vos miséricordes, de ceux qui rugissaient, prêts à me dévorer, | 4 from choking fire on every side and from the midst of fire which I did not kindle, |
| 5 des mains de ceux qui cherchaient à m'ôter la vie, et de la puissance des tribulations qui m'environnaient; | 5 from the depths of the belly of Hades, from an unclean tongue and lying words-- |
| 6 de la violence de la flamme qui m'entourait, et au milieu du feu je n'ai point senti la chaleur; | 6 the slander of an unrighteous tongue to the king. My soul drew near to death, and my life was very near to Hades beneath. |
| 7 de la profondeur des entrailles de l'enfer, de la langue souillée et des paroles de mensonge, du roi inique et de la langue injuste. | 7 They surrounded me on every side, and there was no one to help me; I looked for the assistance of men, and there was none. |
| 8 Mon âme louera le Seigneur jusqu'à la mort, | 8 Then I remembered thy mercy, O Lord, and thy work from of old, that thou dost deliver those who wait for thee and dost save them from the hand of their enemies. |
| 9 car ma vie était sur le point de tomber au plus profond de l'enfer. | 9 And I sent up my supplication from the earth, and prayed for deliverance from death. |
| 10 Ils m'ont environné de toutes parts, et il n'y avait personne pour m'aider; je regardais si les hommes m'apporteraient du secours, et il n'en venait pas. | 10 I appealed to the Lord, the Father of my lord, not to forsake me in the days of affliction, at the time when there is no help against the proud. |
| 11 Alors je me suis souvenu de Votre miséricorde, Seigneur, et de ce que Vous avez fait depuis le commencement du monde; | 11 I will praise thy name continually, and will sing praise with thanksgiving. My prayer was heard, |
| 12 car Vous tirez du péril ceux qui Vous attendent, Seigneur, et Vous les délivrez des mains des nations. | 12 for thou didst save me from destruction and rescue me from an evil plight. Therefore I will give thanks to thee and praise thee, and I will bless the name of the Lord. |
| 13 Vous avez exalté mon habitation sur la terre, et j'ai prié pour être délivré de la mort qui se précipitait sur moi. | 13 While I was still young, before I went on my travels, I sought wisdom openly in my prayer. |
| 14 J'ai invoqué le Seigneur, père de mon Seigneur, afin qu'Il ne m'abandonnât point au jour de ma tribulation, et sans défense au jour des superbes. | 14 Before the temple I asked for her, and I will search for her to the last. |
| 15 Je louerai sans cesse Votre nom, et je le glorifierai dans mes actions de grâces, parce que ma prière a été exaucée, | 15 From blossom to ripening grape my heart delighted in her; my foot entered upon the straight path; from my youth I followed her steps. |
| 16 et que Vous m'avez délivré de la perdition, et que Vous m'avez sauvé dans un temps d'injustice. | 16 I inclined my ear a little and received her, and I found for myself much instruction. |
| 17 C'est pourquoi je Vous rendrai grâce, et je chanterai Vos louanges, et je bénirai le nom du Seigneur. | 17 I made progress therein; to him who gives wisdom I will give glory. |
| 18 Lorsque j'étais encore jeune, avant de m'égarer, j'ai recherché ouvertement la sagesse dans ma prière. | 18 For I resolved to live according to wisdom, and I was zealous for the good; and I shall never be put to shame. |
| 19 Je l'ai demandée en avant du temple, et je la rechercherai jusqu'à la fin; elle a fleuri en moi comme un raisin précoce. | 19 My soul grappled with wisdom, and in my conduct I was strict; I spread out my hands to the heavens, and lamented my ignorance of her. |
| 20 Mon coeur s'est réjoui en elle; mes pieds ont marché dans le droit chemin, et dès ma jeunesse j'ai marché sur ses traces. | 20 I directed my soul to her, and through purification I found her. I gained understanding with her from the first, therefore I will not be forsaken. |
| 21 J'ai prêté doucement l'oreille, et je l'ai recueillie. | 21 My heart was stirred to seek her, therefore I have gained a good possession. |
| 22 J'ai trouvé beaucoup de sagesse en moi-même, et j'y ai fait un grand progrès. | 22 The Lord gave me a tongue as my reward, and I will praise him with it. |
| 23 Je rendrai gloire à Celui qui m'a donné la sagesse, | 23 Draw near to me, you who are untaught, and lodge in my school. |
| 24 car je me suis résolu à la mettre en pratique. J'ai été zélé pour le bien, et je ne serai pas confondu. | 24 Why do you say you are lacking in these things, and why are your souls very thirsty? |
| 25 Mon âme a lutté pour la posséder, et j'ai persévéré à la pratiquer. | 25 I opened my mouth and said, Get these things for yourselves without money. |
| 26 J'ai élevé mes mains en haut, et j'ai déploré ma folie envers elle. | 26 Put your neck under the yoke, and let your souls receive instruction; it is to be found close by. |
| 27 J'ai conduit mon âme droit à elle, et je l'ai reconnue et trouvée. | 27 See with your eyes that I have labored little and found myself much rest. |
| 28 Dès le commencement j'ai possédé mon coeur grâce à elle; c'est pourquoi je ne serai point abandonné. | 28 Get instruction with a large sum of silver, and you will gain by it much gold. |
| 29 Mes entrailles ont été émues en la cherchant; c'est pourquoi je posséderai cet excellent bien. | 29 May your soul rejoice in his mercy, and may you not be put to shame when you praise him. |
| 30 Le Seigneur m'a donné en récompense une langue éloquente, avec laquelle je le louerai. | 30 Do your work before the appointed time, and in God's time he will give you your reward. |
| 31 Approchez-vous de moi, ignorants, et assemblez-vous dans la maison de l'instruction. | |
| 32 Pourquoi tardez-vous encore? et que dites-vous à cela? Vos âmes souffrent d'une soif extrême. | |
| 33 J'ai ouvert ma bouche, et j'ai dit: Procurez-vous la sagesse sans argent; | |
| 34 soumettez votre cou au joug, et que votre âme accueille l'instruction, car il vous est aisé de la trouver. | |
| 35 Voyez de vos yeux qu'avec peu de travail je me suis acquis un grand repos. | |
| 36 Recevez l'instruction à grand prix d'argent, et vous posséderez avec elle l'or en abondance. | |
| 37 Que votre âme se réjouisse dans la miséricorde du Seigneur, et vous ne serez point confondus en publiant ses louanges. | |
| 38 Faites votre oeuvre avant le temps, et Il vous donnera votre récompense au temps qu'Il a fixé. | |
