| 2 il fit bâtir et fortifier les villes qu'Hiram lui avait données, et y établit des enfants d'Israël. | 2 Solomon rebuilt the cities which Huram had given to him, and settled the people of Israel in them. |
| 3 Il alla aussi à Emath de Suba, et en prit possession. | 3 And Solomon went to Hamath-zobah, and took it. |
| 4 Puis il bâtit Palmyre dans le désert, et encore plusieurs autres villes dans le pays d'Emath. | 4 He built Tadmor in the wilderness and all the store-cities which he built in Hamath. |
| 5 Il bâtit aussi Béthoron, tant la haute que la basse, villes murées, qui avaient des portes, des barres et des serrures; | 5 He also built Upper Beth-horon and Lower Beth-horon, fortified cities with walls, gates, and bars, |
| 6 et encore Balaath, et toutes les places très fortes qui lui appartenaient, et toutes les villes des chars et des cavaliers. Enfin Salomon bâtit tout ce qu'il lui plut, tant dans Jérusalem que sur le Liban, et dans toute l'étendue de ses Etats. | 6 and Baalath, and all the store-cities that Solomon had, and all the cities for his chariots, and the cities for his horsemen, and whatever Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion. |
| 7 Tout le peuple qui était resté des Héthéens, des Amorrhéens, des Phérézéens, des Hévéens et des Jébuséens, qui n'étaient point de la race d'Israël, | 7 All the people who were left of the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of Israel, |
| 8 mais qui étaient les enfants ou les descendants de ceux que les Israélites n'avaient point fait mourir, Salomon se les rendit tributaires, comme ils le sont encore aujourd'hui. | 8 from their descendants who were left after them in the land, whom the people of Israel had not destroyed--these Solomon made a forced levy and so they are to this day. |
| 9 Il n'employa aucun des fils d'Israël comme esclaves pour les travaux du roi; mais ils furent des hommes de guerre, et commandants des armées, des chars et des cavaliers. | 9 But of the people of Israel Solomon made no slaves for his work; they were soldiers, and his officers, the commanders of his chariots, and his horsemen. |
| 10 Or tous les principaux officiers de l'armée du roi Salomon montaient un nombre de deux cent cinquante; ils avaient à instruire le peuple. | 10 And these were the chief officers of King Solomon, two hundred and fifty, who exercised authority over the people. |
| 11 Salomon fit passer la fille du Pharaon de la ville de David dans la maison qu'il lui avait bâtie; car il dit : Ma femme n'habitera pas dans la maison de David, roi d'Israël, parce qu'elle a été sanctifiée par le séjour de l'arche du Seigneur. | 11 Solomon brought Pharaoh's daughter up from the city of David to the house which he had built for her, for he said, "My wife shall not live in the house of David king of Israel, for the places to which the ark of the LORD has come are holy." |
| 12 Alors Salomon offrit des holocaustes au Seigneur sur l'autel qu'il lui avait élevé devant le vestibule, | 12 Then Solomon offered up burnt offerings to the LORD upon the altar of the LORD which he had built before the vestibule, |
| 13 pour y offrir chaque jour des sacrifices selon l'ordonnance de Moïse, les jours de sabbat, les premiers jours du mois, les trois grandes fêtes de l'année, savoir : celle des Azymes, celle des Semaines et celle des Tabernacles. | 13 as the duty of each day required, offering according to the commandment of Moses for the sabbaths, the new moons, and the three annual feasts--the feast of unleavened bread, the feast of weeks, and the feast of tabernacles. |
| 14 Et il établit, selon l'ordre prescrit par David son père, les traditions et le ministère des prêtres; et les lévites suivant leur ordre, pour louer Dieu et pour servir devant les prêtres, observant les cérémonies propres à chaque jour; et les portiers placés à chaque porte suivant leurs classes; car c'est ainsi que l'avait réglé David, homme de Dieu. | 14 According to the ordinance of David his father, he appointed the divisions of the priests for their service, and the Levites for their offices of praise and ministry before the priests as the duty of each day required, and the gatekeepers in their divisions for the several gates; for so David the man of God had commanded. |
| 15 Les prêtres et les lévites n'omirent rien, et ne firent aussi rien au delà de tout ce que le roi avait ordonné, et de ce qui regardait la garde du trésor. | 15 And they did not turn aside from what the king had commanded the priests and Levites concerning any matter and concerning the treasuries. |
| 16 Salomon avait préparé toutes les dépenses, depuis le jour où il commença à jeter les fondements du temple, jusqu'au jour où il l'acheva. | 16 Thus was accomplished all the work of Solomon from the day the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid until it was finished. So the house of the LORD was completed. |
| 17 Ensuite il alla à Asiongaber et à Aïlath, sur le bord de la mer Rouge, dans le pays d'Edom. | 17 Then Solomon went to Ezion-geber and Eloth on the shore of the sea, in the land of Edom. |
| 18 Hiram lui avait envoyé par ses serviteurs des vaisseaux et des marins expérimentés, qui s'en allèrent avec les serviteurs de Salomon à Ophir, d'où ils rapportèrent au roi Salomon quatre cent cinquante talents d'or. | 18 And Huram sent him by his servants ships and servants familiar with the sea, and they went to Ophir together with the servants of Solomon, and fetched from there four hundred and fifty talents of gold and brought it to King Solomon. |
