| 1 Et David dit : C'est ici la maison de Dieu, et c'est ici l'autel qui doit servir pour les holocaustes d'Israël. | 1 Then David said: This is the house of God, and this is the altar for the holocaust of Israel. |
| 2 Et il commanda qu'on assemblât tous les prosélytes qui étaient dans le pays d'Israël; et il en prit pour tirer les pierres des carrières, pour les tailler et les polir, en vue de la construction du temple. | 2 And he commanded to gather together all the proselytes of the land of Israel, and out of them he appointed stonecutters to hew stones and polish them, to build the house of God. |
| 3 Il prépara aussi du fer en abondance pour les clous des portes, et pour les crampons et jointures, et de l'airain en poids innombrable. | 3 And David prepared in abundance iron for the nails of the gates, and for the closures and joinings: and of brass an immense weight. |
| 4 Les Tyriens et les Sidoniens apportèrent aussi à David du bois de cèdre, dont on ne pouvait estimer la quantité. | 4 And the cedar trees were without number, which the Sidonians, and Tyrians brought to David. |
| 5 Et David dit : Mon fils Salomon est encore jeune et délicat; et la maison que je désire qu'on bâtisse au Seigneur doit être telle, qu'on en parle avec admiration dans tous les pays. Je veux donc lui préparer toutes les choses nécessaires. Et c'est pour cela qu'avant sa mort il fit tous les préparatifs. | 5 And David said: Solomon my son is very young and tender, and the house which I would have to be built to the Lord, must be such as to be renowned in all countries: therefore I will prepare him necessaries. And therefore before his death he prepared all the charges. |
| 6 Ensuite il appela Salomon, et lui ordonna de bâtir un temple au Seigneur Dieu d'Israël. | 6 And he called for Solomon his son: and commanded him to build a house to the Lord the God of Israel. |
| 7 Il lui dit donc : Mon fils, j'avais conçu le dessein de bâtir un temple au nom du Seigneur mon Dieu; | 7 And David said to Solomon: My son, it was my desire to have built a house to the name of the Lord my God. |
| 8 mais Dieu m'a parlé en disant : Vous avez répandu beaucoup de sang, et vous avez fait des guerres nombreuses; vous ne pourrez pas bâtir un temple à Mon nom, après tant de sang répandu en Ma présence. | 8 But the word of the Lord came to me, saying: Thou hast shed much blood, and fought many battles, so thou canst not build a house to my name, after shedding so much blood before me: |
| 9 Vous aurez un fils dont la vie sera tout à fait tranquille, et à qui Je donnerai le repos du côté de tous ses ennemis d'alentour. C'est pourquoi il sera appelé Pacifique. Je donnerai la paix et le repos en Israël durant tout son règne. | 9 The son, that shall be born to thee, shall be a most quiet man: for I will make him rest from all his enemies round about: and therefore he shall be called Peaceable: and I will give peace and quietness to Israel all his days. |
| 10 C'est lui qui bâtira un temple à Mon nom. Il sera Mon fils, et Moi Je serai son Père, et J'affermirai à jamais le trône de son règne sur Israël. | 10 He shall build a house to my name, and he shall be a son to me, and I will be a father to him: and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever. |
| 11 Que le Seigneur soit donc maintenant avec toi, mon fils, et sois heureux; et bâtis une maison au Seigneur ton Dieu, comme Il l'a prédit de toi. | 11 Now then, my son, the Lord be with thee, and do thou prosper, and build the house to the Lord thy God, as he hath spoken of thee. |
| 12 Qu'il te donne aussi la sagesse et le sens, afin que tu puisses conduire Israël, et garder la loi du Seigneur ton Dieu. | 12 The Lord also give thee wisdom and understanding, that thou mayest be able to rule Israel, and to keep the law of the Lord thy God. |
| 13 Car c'est alors que tu seras heureux, si tu observes les commandements et les lois qu'Il a ordonné à Moïse d'enseigner à tout Israël. Sois fort, agis en homme de coeur, et ne crains et ne redoute rien. | 13 For then thou shalt be able to prosper, if thou keep the commandments, and judgments, which the Lord commanded Moses to teach Israel: take courage and act manfully, fear not, nor be dismayed. |
| 14 Voici que dans ma pauvreté j'ai préparé de quoi fournir aux dépenses de la maison du Seigneur : Cent mille talents d'or, et un million de talents d'argent, avec une quantité d'airain et de fer, dont on ne peut dire le poids ni le nombre; en outre, j'ai préparé du bois et des pierres pour tous les besoins. | 14 Behold I in my poverty have prepared the charges of the house of the Lord, of gold a hundred thousand talents, and of silver a million of talents: but of brass, and of iron there is no weight, for the abundance surpasseth all account: timber also and stones I have prepared for all the charges. |
| 15 Tu as aussi de nombreux ouvriers : des tailleurs de pierres, des maçons, des ouvriers sur bois, et des hommes qui excellent dans toutes sortes d'autres ouvrages, | 15 Thou hast also workmen in abundance, hewers of stones, and masons, and carpenters, and of all trades the most skilful in their work, |
| 16 soit en or ou en argent, en cuivre ou en fer, dont on ne peut dire le nombre. Lève-toi donc et agis, et le Seigneur sera avec toi. | 16 In gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, whereof there is no number. Arise then, and be doing, and the Lord will be with thee. |
| 17 David commanda en même temps à tous les chefs d'Israël d'aider son fils Salomon. | 17 David also charged all the princes of Israel, to help Solomon his son, |
| 18 Vous voyez, leur dit-il, que le Seigneur votre Dieu est avec vous, et qu'Il vous a donné du repos de tous côtés, qu'Il a livré tous vos ennemis entre vos mains, et que le pays est assujetti devant le Seigneur et devant Son peuple. | 18 Saying: You see, that the Lord your God is with you, and hath given you rest round about, and hath delivered all your enemies into your hands, and the land is subdued before the Lord, and before his people. |
| 19 Disposez donc vos coeurs et vos âmes, pour chercher le Seigneur votre Dieu. Levez-vous, et bâtissez un sanctuaire au Seigneur Dieu; afin que l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur, et les vases qui sont consacrés au Seigneur soient transportés dans cette maison qu'on va bâtir à Son nom. | 19 Give therefore your hearts and your souls, to seek the Lord your God: and arise, and build a sanctuary to the Lord God, that the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the vessels consecrated to the Lord, may be brought into the house, which is built to the name of the Lord. |
